Villanova was stopped on downs at BC 1 following a 9 play 64 yard drive in 2nd qrt (Nova led 14-7 at the time). Nova also threw a 4th qrt INT that led to BC 35y drive for FG. Next Nova went on a 50 yard drive and had 1st and 10 at BC 19, but QB was sacked and fumbled with 2:36 left. Nova got ball back deep in own territory with 2:13 left, but threw an INT on 2nd down. On the day Villanova had 4 TOs to BC’s 1. And Villanova rushed for 197y (5.5 ypc), but BC’s Rettig did go 22-30-285-2-0.
Big penalty is a pivotal moment in Buffalo – OSU game. 3rd and 8, trailing 20-30, Buffalo LB Khalil Mack got a sack fumble on Braxton Miller, which Buff recovered for a TD, but Mack was called for illegal hands to face (right call) nullifying the fumble and Buff defensive TD (would have been 2nd on the day) and giving OSU an automatic first down. Instead of a 30-27 3 pt lead, with the penalty OSU went on for a 14p 91y TD drive for a 17 pt lead. In the 4th qrt Buffalo was stopped on downs at the OSU 2 following a 15p 75y drive.
Illinois did not record a sack vs Southern Illinois despite them throwing 40 times, but Salukis got 5 sacks of their own.
Toledo only had one drive longer than 40 yards, was 1 of 13 on 3rd downs yet only lost by 18. Florida ended the game at the Toledo 4.
La Tech had 4.3 ypc on 33 attempts (NC St 4.2 on 56 att). 1st qrt LT fumbled on 2nd down at the NC St 2 following a 16p 85y drive. 2nd qrt, two drives later LT fumbled at NC St 9 after a 6p 66y drive. LT had 321 yards but only scored 14 pts. Those yards were not garbage time either as LT actually had -14 yards on 3 drives in the 4th qrt, so they gained 335 yards in 3 qrts.
Maryland should have won by even more than 43-10. FIU recovered a fumbled Maryland punt at the Terp 15, got –5y on 3 plays and kicked a FG. Later in the 2nd qrt FIU took over at the Mary 25 following a sack/fumble and took 9 plays before scoring their only TD on the day. If not for 2 Maryland fumbles FIU would have been shut out. FIU’s longest drive of the day was their final one of 42 yards.
Notre Dame had a 1st down at the Temple 4, but failed to score before game ended (up by 22 laying about 28). Temple’s running QB often frustrated ND D and he rushed for multiple first downs. Owls had 25-21 FD advantage, but 362-543 yard deficit as Irish got big play after big play while Owls had to nickel and dime (which they often did effectively). Both teams missed 2 FGs, Temple also missed an x-pt. Temple was SOD at ND 6 and 33 in 2nd half. So on one hand ND could have covered this game, but also Temple could have made it closer on the scoreboard.
