Detroit Going after Cassel

Marlo

Check out my DAD BOD
Apparently in the range of 5 years 60 millions, 15 up front.

Heard they want to talk to him if the Pat's get knocked out of the playoffs.

Hasn't broke yet, heard it from a credible source.

Hopefully they have to wait a few more weeks to be able to talk to him

Better bring over the Pats O-Coord as your HC then... because Cassel will not thrive in any other system. This guy has limited arm strength but makes minimal mistakes. Needs heavy YAC from his receivers which he has in NE.

Not so fast my friends....Bob Ryan was speculating that IF (and admittedly thats a big 'if' at this point) they didnt feel Brady was gonna be 100%, they coould (get this) keep Cassel and SHOP BRADY!!

If any team would do it, itd be Belichick and the Patriots...

And I can think of at least one NFC East team in a certain town where the World Series Champions reside, and have 2 first round picks that would be very interested...

please don't be the noob who drafts him too early in next year's fantasy draft. all about the system.

Cassel arm strength is fine . Did you watch him slinging it in the shit weather the past Sunday . His problem will be an OL. He will struggle behind a bad OL . His #1 issue is not knowing what to do when protection breaks down. Matt Cassel is no fluke he is the modern version of Kurt Warner ....

Take away 2007 and Cassel has been every bit as good statisically as Brady ......and he has the WINS as well on a brutally depleted team..

Remember those threads saying NE wouldnt be 500 , I will be shocked if NE wins 10 games , etc......

If someone is going to get paid doesnt he deserve to ??

hahah nut- you know im one of the biggest pats haters on the board and will always be, but i dont blame ya for drinking the matt cassell kool-aid.

he burned me early in the season showing great poise and did a great job of managing the game and was very efficient in beating my jets in his first friggin start, and then almost burned me again the second time we faced them when he threw for 400.

but i was serious when i said detroit should pickup mcdaniel as well for OC and maybe even head coach... cassell is already acclimated to his system and we all know detroit needs to make a lot more changes then just at QB. personnell changes need to be made as well.

i know youre high on the kid and with good reason, theyve had so many injuries at RB this year putting a lot more pressure on him but he's definitely stepped up to the plate. as much as i hate belicheat and this team, cassel has made a believer out of me bro

It's all good Cap. I just think its unfair to him not to acknowledge how well he has played . I was very happy to see the Giants beat the Pats last year and while I dont hate NE if BB every proved he was a genius it sure was 2008. Of course its the system but every NFL team has a system in comparision most of them just suck compare to BB's. Part of the system is getting players to buy into and teaching them how to execute it . Everything around BB has changed but consistency has remained constant .

As a sports fan to see a kid like Cassel who himself jokes about the he was only 1 play away from being in the game . Unfortunately it was 1 play away with Carson Palmer , Matt Leinart and Tom Brady who at the times Cassel was around where basically the elite at the position . On one hand you wonder what player he could have been given the opportunity the 3 starters had or you wonder was the way it worked out the way that benefited him the most.

I dont think McDaniel would be a bad choice either . Especially being so young he could rebuild the organization to his liking and still be young to get them to the next step.

It's nice to see a story like this when a player maximizes his opportunity and maybe even talent . Rather then all the reckless athletes who sabotage their careers .

Pats were decimated at RB but had some nice vets to plug in and Green-Ellis was a nice find . See how important the draft and unsigned FA pool can be ? Just look at Brady , Cassel and Ben Jarvis Green Ellis as perfect examples of how building an organization is about minimal waste . For as explosive as the NE offense was last year its not really filled with much talent . He has 3 key players in Moss who oftens get doubled , Welker and KFaulk . After that TE Watson has never stepped it up, Gaffeny is a solid third WR but that it . He plucked Sam Aiken from Buffalo and when called upon he made some big plays but its not like he has Arizona's WRs....:shake:

Cassell is a product of the system he plays in but everyone should still respect the year he has had. This year just shows it is all about the system. I would shop Brady, get 2 first rounders minimum for him and sign Cassell long term. He is younger and has proven he can play in this system. Ask this, how do we know that Brady is only this good because of the system? I am a MI guy and love Brady but that is a valid question.
And cassell would go to Marlo's homie state of Minny before he EVER went to DET. Minny can and is winning now. Det has some years left before they get into the 4 win column.

Matt Cassel is the next Scott Mitchell. I hope for the Lions sake they remember the disaster that was.

But these teams never learn. What about the Dolphins and AJ Feeley. Cassel has been blessed this year playing a horrific schedule and the opportunity to throw it to Randy Moss and Wes Welker.

They've played the AFC West and the NFC West and the AFC Least. Any decent team, he's been throttled.

I hope for the Lions sake that they do not pursue him. That'd be three more years of SHIT games Thanksgiving.

maybe with asante samuel or some other excellent player who plays a specific role, but not brady, who is the system. and even even if it makes business sense to cut brady and sign cassell for a cheaper contract, it makes no football sense. between brady's deep ball to his field presence and football iq or ability in the clutch, cassell doesn't touch brady as an NFL quarterback.

Minny should be the team to go after him not Detroit.

Detroit should go after Vick. Vick dont need no stinkin O line.
