CP3 reportedly will be offered a 6 year/$98 million contract this summer

Rare I would say this..but thats almost a bargain for N.O.

Is this not the max? I mean, I might be in the minority, but at no point did I think he'd get anything less than the absolute max. How could you not?

I think that's what's pretty awesome about the NBA. When your contract comes up and your the best player for your team, you get paid the max. I also praise the rookie structure; why pay someone 50 mill like in the NFL when they're completely unproven? Obviously it's not all guaranteed, but it seems pretty stupid. It kinda makes me hope every top pick in the NFL is a bust, just so they'd have an excuse to change that horrible system.

It is the max...I am just saying this kid is so good I would consider it a bargain...almost

dont kobe and bron make almost 20 mill a year?

and kobes was a long term deal too so its got to be near 140-150 K

Yeah, I thought it was, and I know what you're saying. It is a bargain, imo.

By the way, to anyone wondering why it's the max yet substantially less than Bryant etc., it's because of seniority and amount of previous contracts. There's a good link to the rules about the salary cap one some site like hoopshype or another site like it. It's a good read because it also gives tidbits about the largest contracts ever (I think Jordan had the biggst somewhere in the high thirty millions per year) and other cool stuff like that. Maybe I can find it.

Aside from the obviously low numbers, look at who's number 9 on
that list... No wonder why the guy's a GM, he must be one
helluva negotiator to get paid more than Olajuwon, and Mchale, among others.

Im seeing James signed with Cavs up till 2009/10 and having a player option for 2010/11.

Cant find any extension of that sort.

Yeah, that's sadly the first thing I thought when I saw that list as well. I mean, it honestly reflected by the times, but it's just a shame today that players make so much more, but it means so much less to them. People say that they're the ones that bring in the money and the owners still make more than them, but that still doesn't justify their lack of appreciation.

I really have to say what the FUCK for some of these numbers

Aaron Mckie - 7 Million- I dont even know who the fuck that is

Malik Rose - 7 Million - I havent heard that dudes name since he was on SA

Mark Blount -7.9 Million - I didnt know he was even in the league

TJ Ford - 8 Million - This is banana's

Dunleavy 8.3 Million - ?

Dariuis Miles - Another name I havent heard this decade

I could go on for days

Some of the names on that list are reasonable, you know guys like Marbury who had the potential and they did something in the league other then dick around but guys Troy Murphy making just under 10 million is fucking crazy

Luke Walton got some fat money

for some crazy reason he has been money in the playoffs and being a ghost the whole season.

Most Overpaid P.O.S. Team
Kidd/Heinrich
Marbury/Hughes
Finley/Wally
Webber/LaFrentz
Ben Wallace/Dampier

How about Keith Van Horn got like 2 million dollars for taking a physical this year for the Kidd trade? Thats a $2,000,025 diffrence from what I get to get a physical

It is the max...I am just saying this kid is so good I would consider it a bargain...almost

an unbiased opinion is always refreshing.

I feel like I'm stealing from my cable company not having to pay extra to watch this kid play. He is amazing all around on and off the court.
A RARE find in todays sports world.

I've seen all the lists and if you go team by team, you will go crazy!! I cant believe they make that much money. And to make it worse, let me break it down for you.......

Lets use Shaq

annual salary, $20,000,000

per game, $243,902
per quarter, $60,975
per minute (40 avg.) , $6097

There you go, that will help you sleep better at night now!!

He probably won't sign that deal if he wants more money. I remember a year ago (maybe 2) when Lebron, Melo, and Wade were signing their extensions Lebron and Wade signed like 1 year less then the max and Melo signed the max. They all make the same amount but Lebron and Wade become free agents 1 year sooner.

Did anyone listen to the last Bill Simmons podcast with Chris Connelly (the guy who does the 'sad' stories on Sportscenter)?

They were talking about a piece he did for Sportscenter in like 2003 or 2004 that won an emmy about a high school basketball player who was exceptionally mature and intellectual for his age (took psychology classes because he said it helped him realize the importance of getting his teammates involved).

He was playing a high school game a little while after his grandfather passed away and decided he was going to score one point for every year his grandfather was old. Well he got to 61 or however old he was and it happened on a layup where he got fouled. Instead of shooting the free throw (and putting him off the age), he just handed the ball to the official and walked off the court to a standing O...the player? Chris Paul.

Cant find the piece on YouTube or anywhere, but it was a cool story

^^^^ You left out the part that the state record was 63 points in a game. The moral of the story is that he passed up on lifelong notoriety in his state to honor his grandfather. The craziest part is that he called it prior to the game.

Chris Paul in general is a great story.

Find me any athlete in any major sport that is as talented and humble and I will get the guy that is refunding Healthy Choice meals to send you $3.19 from his paypal account.

in response to...

wizard - nope you got bobby from us

throwback - gonna be one of the best teams for years to come, just need to find a substitute for peja in the future

Latrell Sprewell turned down a 3-year/$22 million deal from the Wolves because:
"My family gotz to eat"

He never played another game in the league and in the past year has had his yacht repo'd and has many suits and liens against him.

Tim Duncan is out because he is a whiny bitch.
He acts like he should get every call even though they get at least 7-10 nonfouls a game called as fouls in their favor.
He has mad skills etc. but he is a whiner and will always be a whiner.

Manning is too money driven to get the nod.
Those in the inner circles that know Peyton will attest he is not the most humble guy. I would argue that he is not near as talented as Paul.
He studies and practices harder than almost any athlete on the planet though.

Ken Griffey Jr. is one of the few respectable things that are left with baseball. It's a shame he has had so many setback through injury.
I would love to see him take Bonds off the HR record.
However, he had a slight advantage being the son of a former professional athlete. Uh oh that goes for Manning too.

Looks like Paul is the classiest most grounded athlete on the planet that didnt have a professional career as his life mission from birth.

I will give credit that was a tough list to bullshit my way through.

I just don't find the need to compare. The guy (Paul) is a standup human being from all we've seen and he's obviously one of the best players in the league. He's young, good-looking (:really_happy:) and the guy just became extremely rich. The best way to prove how good of a human being you are is by how you handle the responsibility of being rich. He's certainly entitled to do whatever he wants with the money; however, if he builds a school a hospital and starts a scholarship in his name that'll just be further evidence of this guy's character.
