I think I am going to try and find players on teams that I think have a really really good shot of winning finals MVP. I tend to lean towards the fans choice esspecially the player's team fans. Alot of times in situations where a team has not won for a long while it is easier to pick the guy you know is a shoe in if they win. It is not by any means a lock, but I weigh the pick and the price and see how good a hedge it actually is with the other side be it a series ML, game ML, or player prop to win MVP. if there is no clear cut guy in my oppinion then I leave it alone, I have only tried it once in this last superbowl with PM/bears. I feel that finals MVP is hugely motivated by the public and not neccisarily the person that had the best performance although that certainly matters and I try to take that into account.

anyways just kinda want to get an early view on some favs this year to watch in the finals. I have not really watched many games of any of these teams but kinda want to find if there is any consensus of people who have seen them play or followed them at all. Thanks for the help in these, I will try to spread them out so I dont spam the NBA room.

Thanks.

I think this one is pretty straight forward. However will wait to see what the numbers say. I did not include gooden because big Z takes over the game a little better then gooden or at least more often. I think that if for some strange reason LJ is not chosen and they pick a big man, Big Z would edge out gooden, and that is a huge reach to even get that far, imo.

Ok to put this another way:

What is a good reason to take Cleveland to win the Championship over taking Lebron to win the MVP?

I dont see one. I have not looked at the odds, but only way he does not win it is if he gets injured before the Finals Series, and if that happens they do not win it anyways.

It will be larry hughes or lebron... Ive probably watched 60 of the cavs 82 games this season.. and ive seen all their playoff games..

I dont have much time to post reasonings right now but I will try to get back on later and post my reasons...

where is Sasha, Drew Gooden? missin some big names

yeah figured it would be a pretty one sided poll.... make a case for them if your serious, I'm interested for sure if your serious. Dont follow these teams much so I just get the mainstream media stuff.

oh i definitely serious. sasha and drew have EACH carried this team in stretches this season with hughes being out for a while and lebron jus suckin it up. i mean i think IF they do win it its probably going to be lebron, but i would make a larger case for probably sasha or drew before Z and Laura hughes

Haha, this is a joke, they have a 0% chance of winning if Lebron doesn't play extremely well. Lebron for MVP is definetly the way to go rather than Cavs to win .. the only question would be the limit on how much you can bet

Agreed that you would probably get better odds on cavs winning than lebron MVP

There is no way you'd get better odds on the Cavs winning, but I would not be surprised at all (actually I assume) that his odds of winning MVP will be exactly the same as the Cavs to win

only odds I can find right now were 15-1. at the same sportsbook the odds of winning it all were 13-1. However I could do better then 15-1 for them to win it all right now at a different book. Thing is that I would not play it now and if I end up making a play, I would bet that his MVP line will be a little better then the one to win it all as it will be at many different books at that time.

They would pick lebron even if he didn't play

:smiley_acbe:

Hughes, Gooden, Sasha, etc. are all WAY too inconsistent to be considered as MVP. none of them can string 3 good games together in a row. Lebron's "bad" games are usually 22 point, 6 rebound, 4 assist nights in which he shoots 4 of 9 from the stripe.

Ilgauskas may be an option, but if they move onto the Finals and face SA, he has no chance.

To be honest, I doubt any Cavalier would provide any value in this type of wager. Lebron would be too big of a favorite, and the others, albeit with attractive odds, are sucker bets in my opinion.

IMO, any better price then the series line will be worth it too me if they reach the finals. If I have a MVP candidate I am ready to play on one side I am mainly just trying to hedge. Lebron in my eyes would be that candidate. This is alot like Peyton Manning this last year. Colts were pretty good sized favs and Peyton was about ev or + for the MVP. I think it is a little tougher in baskets, but overall I think we should have a pretty good idea who if anyone I should make this bet on.

i couldnt disagree more. gooden is capable of putting up 15 and 15 in a series consistently. its all politics anyway (look at Dirk for MVP this year for MVP for example). sasha is probably one of the best roll players and supporting casts in the league. thats why the cavs are where they are.....players know their rolls and play them. Z doesn't have a chance to get MVP. sasha and gooden maybe. lebron....more than likely. however the truth of the matter is the cavs have to win it all first :wacka wacka:

The thing is this is all hypothetical just trying to get a feel on whoever will be ending up in the finals. I am not going for a reacher here with good odds. I am going for the favorite and are they dominant or popular enough to take the MVP if their team wins.

its all politics anyway:

would that not make an extremely good reason to take Lebron? Like I said above this award (any finals MVP) moreso then any out there is about Politics and public perception. And Lebron is the Public face on that team, moreso then any other player for any other team left imo.

i guess it makes a good reason, but are you that confident that lebron and the cavs are gonna get there and win it all? wouldnt your money be better invested in like Nash or Duncan or Chauncy or someone? Keep in mind Bron has only been in the league a few years. while hes established some cred, hes still pretty young to be like those other guys in the political sports world

alright steed I see where we are missing each other here. I do not think Lebron will win the finals MVP, however if the Cavs somehow make it past Det I will then look at hedging that game. I will play on Lebron to win the MVP and then whoever they are playing to win the series. In effect I win if the Cavs win because I have James and I think he wins IF the cavs win. On the opposite side of the coin I also win if the other team wins the series. I suspect that James prop for MVP will be off enough from the series line I will actually be able to scalp this pretty healthy as it is pretty unconventional when it comes to scalping, just something I look at. I honestly see it being a Det vs SA or Phx game and that is probably a series I would lay off hedging. But we'll see. appreciate the imput though.

i couldnt disagree more. gooden is capable of putting up 15 and 15 in a series consistently.

Gooden went for 15+ and 15+ three times the entire regular season in 80 games, against Memphis, Charlotte, and Milwaukee.

if he can do it consistently against the West's best team in a 7-game stretch max, then i must be missing something.

playoff intensity and regular season 80+ game intensity are 2 different things.
