Chuck Long was just on the radio about the fires in San Diego...

He said that he felt the game should be postponed. At this point, I would have to say that this will probably be the case, as SD is in chaos right now. Some of my relatives have already arrived at my house, as the fire storms are approaching their home. My thoughts are with all those evacuating, and the firefighters (true heroes) who are putting their lives on the line.

On a side note, there are fires everywhere, all up and down Southern California. I have lived here just about my entire life, and I've never seen anything like this.

Apparently it's gotten a little better up around Malibu, but I think down south by SD and in OC is where it's the worst.

I'm with you, hopefully they can get this under control sooner than later.

I actually live in OC, so I have to concur with you there. There are just huge clouds of smoke all over the place. If you stand outside too long, you have ash all in your hair. People are walking around with masks on.

Thanks for the update. Only Craig Thompson (MWC Commishoner) could mess this one up. Just postpone the game already so people can deal with real life issues.

Stay safe and best of luck to your relatives. I was in San Diego during the '03 fires and I was blown away then. Can't imagine what you guys are dealing with now.

Yikes, I didn't know it was that bad in the cities.

With Malibu not being bad and there being nothing (thankfully) right now in the Hollywood Hills, we almost don't know it's going on at all here in L.A.

Thanks for the well wishes bro...much appreciated. I was in SD in '03, and this really is much worse. 300,000+ evacuated thus far, and you can bet there are more coming. They say there could be a chance that the winds let up tomorrow. I've got my fingers crossed...

It's pretty bad east of San Diego. I actually just got off of my roof where I was watching the mountainside in flames. It is quite a few miles away, but scare nonetheless.

For what it's worth. The game has been postponed.

Saturday's BYU-SDSU game postponed

BYU's game at San Diego State Saturday has been postponed due to the wildfires raging in the San Diego area, officials said Tuesday afternoon.
The game has been rescheduled for Dec. 1 at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium.
About 250,000 residents in San Diego County have been evacuated due to the fires. More than 10,000 evacuees are currently seeking refuge at Qualcomm.
"Some are sleeping in tents or open-air cots and the elderly are staying in the luxury boxes," Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson said Tuesday. If the game were held, "Where would they go?" he asked.
Aztec coach Chuck Long earlier had canceled practice and encouraged his players to help in the community.
"It's been a tough situation in San Diego right now," said Long. "We're not even talking football right now. We're in a disaster zone."
Thompson said that moving the game to BYU was "not really a consideration." BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said football is secondary compared to what's going on in San Diego. Before Tuesday afternoon's decision to cancel the game, Mendenhall said he would support that decision.

they should postpone the game, but i wonder if they did, when would they make the game up? it would make a mess of the timetable of when games are in the playoffs, including the super bowl date if they extend the season 1 more week. Or maybe they'll have to play a midweek game say a tuesday, then play the weekend game? who knows.

Yeah guys, if anyone remembers the 2003 fires, this is at least twice as bad. The 2003 fires burned west with Santa Anas for about a day or so and then headed east into unpopulated areas.

These fires started at about the same place and went due west about 25 miles almost all the way to the coast.

2003 fires were pretty much contained to areas east of I-15 and the fires started there before jumping the freeway and marching to the west and affecting a ton of areas.

I totally forgot to mention that, JPicks. Thanks bro. Qualcomm is being used as a site for those fleeing the path of the fire. Would'nt be very logical to make all those people leave simply for a few football games, no?

An update on the Orange County Fire - It has now reached Foothill Ranch and Lake Forest. The flames are on the hills about 1.4 miles from our house, very close to Saddleback Church. I wasn't worried before, but I am now. Still no word from the OCFD

Thanks pags...appreciate it bro.

Update - The winds have finally let up in OC, and the firefighters are starting to contain some of the blaze. The fire hasn't moved much from the Foothill Ranch mountains, but it's still burning strong.
