CFL is BACK!

It's kinda interesting

Theres a bunch of cfl fans who are dead set against it, because there would have to be some type of rules changes, some mix of the current cfl and the last version of the xfl, which probably makes for a better league

But the some cfl people and fans just hate it

Unless this season is a big success though, I think a merge is a necessity for finances, even if it is they may need to merge anyway, so something to keep an eye on

CFL model >>>>>>>>>> XFL model

If they do this whole rule merge, CFL better put their balls on the table and call the shots

I dont remember exactly

Does he have the arm strength? That's biggest problem some of the ncaa guys who come up have, with the wider field, get picked off all day throwing ducks
Doesn't go through progressions... Wants to dance around... Overthrows a lot...

Don’t know if I’ve met fans/people like cfl fans/people. Always the biggest hard on for the cfl

Sounds like when Des Moines got the Barnstormers in the early 90s

First "pro" team there, all day tailgating!

Yassssssss!

Outta hibernation.
Good to be back. Its been a helluva year for me but things are finally looking up.

Currently working my way through all the opportunities presented by this 16 week compressed schedule. It will be a challenging year to cap the CFL...2 years worth of free agent movement, retirements, 2 draft classes coming in at once and a lot more change to come before the season kicks off. By putting in the work we can turn this to our advantage.

Its been so long I'm actually gonna smile when Andre Proulx calls his first bullshit penalty.

Single game sports betting bill was approved in the senate today without amendments meaning it just needs royal ascent and its law.

Some provinces plan to roll it out by Sept. This is huge for the CFL.

The league has teetered on the edge of profitability for 30 years now and this could be the new revenue stream that sets it up for a bright future

I think bc wants it done asap, I.e this summer

Some of the provinces are better set up for it, we already have it set up here, ontario does as well I think?

It could be huge though, I hope they go all in, they need too, be the innovators

I have no idea how it will roll out but I'm hearing about plans to have kiosks inside stadiums in some provinces. Will Casino Niagara (or Windsor or Rama etc) have a nice dark sportsbook that I can sit at and bet the shit out of football? I can only dream

I saw a picture or buck pierce being introduced in winnipeg today and it sent shivers down my spine, I thought he was coming back and I couldn't watch him get another injury

Thank God hes OC

The ones out here, theres one right across the street from bc place and Roger's arena, already has a nice sports bar, they need to add in everything in the next 6 weeks to be ready

Hes a tough son of a bitch I'll give him that. Watching him behind that awful line was like watching a slow motion murder

So do they have terminals to bet or is it all app based?

I loved him here, he didnt have the biggest arm or anything but seemed so clutch in 4th quarters, took such a beating though

Well here's to hoping they price it right to lure my business. I hope they don't get greedy and fuck it up like they did with cannabis.

I'd be happy enough with -110 on most stuff. I doubt you ever see reduced juice here. And pinnacle will still get the lions share of my action. I would have pinnacles baby.

It nice to see your doing well Hulu i sure did miss the cfl last year buddy:shake:

Likewise Fab. Last year was painful for sure. We have our work cut out for us this year but I think we can make some money. :cheers3:

Ok here's my random thoughts on this merger nonsense and this is the last I'll speak of it because its ridiculous and unworthy of our time..

  • No
  • Not going to happen. Ever.
  • You don't take 150 years of tradition and get in bed with a twice-failed gimmick league that doesn't actually exist and has run by an ex-wrestler who never seems to be able to finish buttoning up his shirt cuffs
  • At most we might see some agreement to allow players to jump between leagues to bring in some extra cash in his teams offseason. Maybe some cross promotion. But they will never play games. Maybe a gimmick all star game or something but these 2 leagues will never play meaningful games against each other. Never.
  • Anyone who thinks this is a good idea probably has a Johnny Manziel Ticats jersey in their closet...because just like then, they've bought into hype.
  • Vast majority of Americans don't want to watch 3 down ball and I get that. So thats gone, wider field gone which means 12 men per side is gone, ratio is gone...so what do you have left? Think the larger American market is just going to adapt to the rouge? Its no longer Canadian football period.
  • Even if you do retain some CFL rules, if the league is successful it will evolve and we all know it will evolve toward NFL rules, not toward CFL rules.
  • I love how people are talking like the rock is some CFL expert. Oh he understands the league does he? He played what? 4 plays in a preseason game in 1988 and didn't even make it to his second. Wow he really knows the league. Go button up your shirt cuffs asshole.
  • If this merger were to happen I would commit ritual seppuku on the press box at Ivor Wynne Stadium.
  • I will fight the rock if I have too. I will fight Dany Garcia too whoever the fuck that is. Live dog alert.
  • The CFL is not nearly in as bad a financial shape as it is made out to be. While there are some trouble spots, almost all teams have an incentive to hide their true financial picture. The 3 public teams all have slush funds Edmonton $19million, Winnipeg $7million, Sask at least $4mil and they didn't even touch them last year. Hamilton's owner is worth about $900 million, David Braley left the Lions enough money to run for several years in his estate, Montreal has new ownership. Which brings me to...
  • Fuck MLSE and fuck Larryt Tannenbaum and the teachers pension fund that owns it. They're the ones driving this merger nonsense.

TLDR NO!

Holy retirements. Not that it wasn’t expected but it’s been hard to keep up.

Sone guys moved on when the league took a pause and now want to continue their post-football careers. Other probably started intense workouts again and are finding their bodies hitting a wall.

Sinopoli the biggest name so far but Kenny Ladler, Bo Banner, Taylor Loeffler, Bobby Tindal, Derek Dennis, Chad Geter, Machibroda all gonnna hurt their teams.

It’ll get worse before it gets better. Expect another round of retirements as camp two a days begin.

Early Grey Cup Lines...

Hamilton +310 - no value...obv consensus favourite
Saskwatch +440 - good number
Calgary +490 - good number
Winnipeg +510 - good number
Toronto +590 - I'd put it much higher like +900
BC +900 - good number
Montreal +900 - good number
Edmonton +1000 - Whoa...this is too high. I'd make it more like +650
Ottawa +1100 - I'd make it +2000

Only value I see is with the Elkies at +1000. They've had some turnover to be sure but also made some significant moves and I think Elizondo is a fantastic coach who just happened to be Trevor Harris' OC back in Ottawa. There is no juggernaut in the west division...Sask and Calgary are both beatable and BC will be better but still average. It really wouldn't surprise me to see them take 2nd. And then you have playoff Trevor Harris who for the last 2 seasons went ape shit in playoff games. He was 19/22 or something like that LY vs Montreal. Not that I'm saying they win it but +1000 has def value. Too early to hit it yet but one to watch

Lions is all on the OLine. I wouldn't take them pre season, but if they get good line play and Reilly actually has time this year they are a live dog.

I know it's 2 years but Hamilton just seems so fucking good coming in to the season

I think the Lions OL will be better. They really improved in the L6 of 2019 after the coaching change. But I wonder about Reilly...he was looking a little old at times although that line could make any QB look bad. He looks in shape but I just don't know. And that receiving corps is very thin.

Ham and Sask with the most continuity and that will be so important after a long off season and no preseason. If 2020 had happened, Hamilton's defence might have been historically good with Larry Dean and Patrick Levels added to the mix. But then they lost them both for 2021 along with Courtney Stephen and Delvin Breaux to retirement so theyre basically back to 2019 level. My other worry with Hamilton is Masoli. He will almost certainly be starting but after Dane Evans led the team all the way to the cup, a lot of people, including myself, think Evans has more upside long term and the team should probably jettison Masoli while he still has value. Also he's coming off an ACL and even with some 650 days to heal up, you just never know how that pans out.

Also...Masoli and his mechanics...throwing off his back foot and throwing up prayers when he should be throwing it away. The cats lost their LT Ryker Matthews. If they can't find a suitable replacement, Masoli is gonna be on the run a lot.

And they won't jettison Masoli, even though they should. The organization is a bit soft to be honest. This is not the Harold Ballard days when you were disappointed if there were <10 fights in the stands and ol Harry was calling the team Bums in the paper every Monday. The org puts on this family friendly face and thats all fine and dandy but football needs a hard edge from top to bottom and I feel like this team doesn't have it.

I am less confident in them than I was in 2019.

So Jake Plummer is going to play a Ti-cats QB in a movie about the CFL? WTF??

I didnt even think of masoli, I thought it would be Evan's from the go, so I am a bit less bullish with that news

Bold plan

'Bickford calls the movie a “coming-of-age story” that will be a cross between Rocky and Stand By Me.'

They have said itll be a competition and anything is possible but I would take -200 that Masoli is their day 1 starter

Grey Cup is in Hamilton and it will be the latest in the year since sometime in the 70s I think. I would love a snow game so much. Just like '96. That was so awesome.
