Got this in my email earlier today...

This morning, we announced the difficult decision not to retain Larry Fedora as our football coach. I made this choice after consulting with members of UNC’s Board of Trustees and Chancellor Carol L. Folt, and I met with Coach Fedora on Sunday morning to inform him of the decision.

This was not an easy choice. Coach Fedora came to Carolina in the midst of an NCAA case and brought much-needed stability to our football program. Over his seven years, he faced negative recruiting, massive amounts of injuries and unexpected player losses, but he never made excuses and he never complained. Instead, he focused – and focused his teams -- on overcoming adversity, and I deeply respect the way he persevered and led our program with integrity.

It simply is time to take our football program in a new direction. To that end, we are working quickly to find a new leader for our football program and to join our dedicated department staff.

Although there will be many questions, I will not comment publicly about the search until it is complete. But I want to re-affirm to you that we are committed to building an outstanding football program that wins in the classroom, community and in competition -- and that consistently competes for championships.

We deeply appreciate your support of our football program, Carolina Athletics, and our University.

Sincerely,

Bubba Cunningham
Director of Athletics

Lots of interesting names coming across the rumor mill. Will be very curious to see which direction we go, but reality is I am sure that no matter who we go with, half the people will hate it, as that is just the way it goes no matter what you do haha.

Good work getting above the Mendoza line. Now, crush December. Good luck this week.

MTSU line has dropped to -1 with ML at 115. Anyone hear anything? I am thinking it will settle back in at -2.5 eventually even with this early week movement.

Looks like rain and 15+mph winds projected in that game CB, naturally that will favor dog/under

Curious your thoughts on Boise-they kinda handled Fresno a couple weeks ago in a rather meaningless game for the Bulldogs, Fresno is setting up to be one of bigger if not biggest plays this weekend to avenge that. They really got punched in the mouth but again, win or lose at that point the SDSU game was going to be for the division.

Should have some time later tonight, so will jump back in with a few thoughts on why I made that one a play this week.

Jeff Tedford says it better than I ever could...

"They're the same Boise State team as always, I think," Fresno State Head Coach Jeff Tedford said. "They're very talented. They have a great quarterback, a really strong receiving corps, a good offensive line, a big physical running back, a very sound defense that flies to the ball and they're very well coached. So they are all-around a really good football team. They're very good on special teams.

"It's not a surprise that they are where they are. I think everybody understands that they are an excellent program and it's a great opportunity for us to go and compete against what has been for a long time one of the elite teams in this conference."

I also love the 3rd down defense of Boise, the way they didn’t get complacent these last two weeks after the big win vs Fresno, and the way they took care of the ball and created turnovers while limiting big plays against my beloved Utah State Aggies haha.

The Boise defense has really impressed me during this seven game win streak and I expect them to continue being stellar this weekend with a potential NY6 bowl game on the line, given that it is entirely possible that UCF loses to Memphis this weekend.

Boy, looks like 3 line moves have gone against me so far but I am not going to second guess myself as I feel pretty confident that I am on the right side of things, so a couple points either way won't make a difference. At the end of the day, winning a play is always better than winning a line move, but always prefer getting as much value as possible so hate seeing lines get away from me nonetheless.

Just a heads up from a weather standpoint for the ACC Championship. Rain is headed into Charlotte and will be around through Saturday night. It will be nice and mild, probably around 60 tomorrow night, but there will be a steady rain most of the evening, so might be something for you guys to consider as you are thinking about your plays on that one. Will provide updates as we get closer to game time as I live about 20 minutes from uptown.

Forgot to mention that the same system will be over Boone all day Saturday, so should see pretty steady rain out that way as well for the Sun Belt championship. Not expecting anything too crazy in either location, but should be consistent between now and Sunday morning, so just something to take into account.
