The problem is...
fans don't consider how important having the same people is on offense...
having the same group of guys tends to let them build on what they had...
fans also fill in small sample size, or young, new players with positive opinion... For example, a lot of people like the potential of a Cutler, Young, or Leinart, more than they like alex smith or eli.
The average fans have seen the good and bad in Eli and Smith, but Leinart and Cutler are just so new, fans see raw potential and they haven't seen these guys flaws as much.
sometimes people would rather talk about " the next" Peyton Manning, Lebraun James, A-Rod, more than they would rather talk about " the guy"
Fans love young, hot, new, players, but after a few years ( of mediocre play), they go sour on these guys...
the only thing is, it usually takes time for a quarterback to develop.
what if Drew Brees was benched before he got good? It is highly unlikely for a quarterback to just come out of the womb and start being good. Even Peyton Manning struggled his first year (3-13), but they went to 13-3 the next year.
I guess you could sum it all up in Romo last year. At first, when people didn't know about him, fans loved the guy. Then after you see the bad with the good, and start to get used to the guy, people started being negative against him too.
Stranger things have happened then for eli to have a great year. Now he's had 2 years as a starter with 2 playoff appearances, 48 td passes, and the offense is really his. He looked accurate ( one of his main problems in the past), and he really controled that offense. He shrugged off criticism from his drama queen runningback of a year ago in the media. what a dickhead move by tiki barber by the way.
