College all stars vs last years Super Bowl champions… was this a yearly thing? Why am I just finding out about this?

I have some old NFL books where they have some recaps on the games. They played them from 1934 to 1975 in Chicago. Almost 108,000 people attended the 1947 game. Attendance had dropped to half that by the end of the games in early and mid 70s. Two years were in Evanston.

In 1946 Elroy Hirsch and Otto Graham on the All Stars team beat the LA Rams 16-0. HOF Bob Waterfield was the QB of the Rams. 1947 the All Stars used the T formation for the first time it says and that college team shut out Sid Luckman's Bears 16-0. In the later years, 1960s and 70s, the NFL teams won more often. They were always in August or late July.
