Broussard to Leave Football Team

(07/24/2007) BY www.LSUsports.net BATON ROUGE -- LSU running back Alley Broussard has decided to leave the Tiger football team, he announced on Tuesday.
Broussard, a senior from Lafayette, said he will remain in school at LSU, where he is scheduled to graduate in December.
“My heart was no longer in it,” Broussard said. “I’m scheduled to graduate in December so I want to use the fall semester to dedicate my time towards getting my degree.
“I enjoyed my four years as part of the LSU football team and I wish my teammates success in 2007.”
LSU coach Les Miles thanked Broussard for his service to the Tiger football team.
“We understand Alley’s decision and we’ll support him as he continues to pursue his college degree. We wish him success in his future endeavors and thank him for the time that he spent with our program.”
In four years with the Tigers, Broussard played in 35 games, starting eight times. He finished his career with 1,537 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. Broussard, who missed all of the 2005 season with a knee injury, returned to action last year, rushing for 281 yards and four touchdowns on 74 carries.

So is that all there is to it? He just didn't feel like playing? Or did he not think he would get many carries? He has been slipping down the depth chart the last couple years, but the injury had a lot to do with that.

have to think having Keiland Williams taking most of the snaps and him being listed #4 on the depth chart behind Scott and Richard Murrphy at HB has a lot to do with it. No knock on him though, injury plagued. Glad to see he will finish school though.

Factor #1: AB came back overweight, Miles told him to lose it, AB did not make it a priority, Miles said he wouldn't play until he did.

Factor #2: (ettg said it) It looked like AB was going into fall camp behind Williams, Scott, and Murphy. A senior cannot be too happy being the 3rd or 4th option.

I do not see LSU being drastically affected by Broussard's departure. LSU is four-deep at RB. Broussard was a bruiser and nothing else after his knee injury, he never regained his speed; therefore, AB would have been LSU's goal line RB. With speedy receivers, Williams/Murphy speed, Flynn's agility, and the emergence of a TE (Dickson), I don't see LSU having that many goal line situations, nor do I foresee much trouble punching it in when faced with a goal line situation.

I am just plain scared for my Gamecocks in wk4.. I would trade @ LSU for Auburn and Bama, both on the road and you can take away South Carolina St.

I would be scared too, ettg. LSU is not a fun team to play, and Baton Rouge is not a fun place to play as a visitor. What sucks for Spurrier's crew is that LSU gets a week between Va Tech and S Carolina to play Midd Tenn St at home, like a practice game preparing for a big SEC game.

I already thought Broussard was off the team. It must have been rumored for awhile, because I've been assuming he wasn't playing this year for the past few months now...

seabass, you've got some psychic powers... :36_11_6:

honestly though, broussard has threatened to quit before, but nothing materialized (that is probably why you were under the impression). it was a complete surprise that broussard quit today.

Still you should finish it! Resume says 4 year player(I know he has been their 5 years) and all of the connections/resources threw the football team!! Not to mention the hard part is about over (2 adays and all that) and you are playing for one of the top teams in the SEC (fine nation too...lol).

When I said Broussard came back overweight, I wasn't clear.

After returning from his knee injury, sitting out all of 2005, AB ballooned to nearly 260LBS. He didn't make losing weight a priority and that is why you didn't see much of AB on the field until the second half of the 2006 season. It was reported just a few weeks ago that AB was in great shape. So when I stated previously that AB and Miles had beef with each other over AB's weight, I wasn't referring to this offseason.

Regardless... Geaux Tigers!!!
