I managed to finish the season strong [45-24-1 +86.91u] over the last 2 weeks, but still down a much more manageable 38u on the season. The Bowls bring a new season, so there's nothing to do but get after it, LFG!

  • UNDER CASHED 16 OF LAST 19 ARMY/NAVY TILTS
  • BOISE 8-3-1 ATS THIS YEAR BUT 0-6 ATS L6 VS UDUB
  • Army/Navy games have been traditionally close, low-possession/low-scoring battles...however, this year’s matchup has a meaningful separation in overall physicality and defensive consistency — both in favor of the Midshipmen. They've been the steadier team for weeks, improving significantly on the defensive front and showing more control offensively than in recent years. Their ability to generate push at the line of scrimmage is their biggest advantage today in a game that hinges on which side wins the trenches.
Army can frustrate opponents by shortening the game and leaning on toughness, but this Navy D is better equipped and ready to handle the option than most teams they’ve faced. Navy’s front seven have been disruptive against interior run-heavy offenses, and their discipline on the perimeter prevents the type of cutback lanes and pitch-space Army needs to succeed. If Army is forced into long-yardage situations — even occasionally — their offense isn't structured to cope. Conversely, Navy’s offense has shown more versatility this season. While still rooted in the option, QB Blake Horvath has incorporated enough variation to keep defenses honest.
Army’s defense has shown flashes, but they’ve been vulnerable to sustained, methodical drives from teams that can match their physicality. Navy is one of the few opponents on Army’s schedule that can do exactly that for four quarters. In a game where possessions are limited, efficiency matters more than explosiveness, and Navy has been the more reliable team at sustaining & finishing drives. Army will come to battle, but Navy’s discipline on D and superior red-zone execution give them the edge to cover a modest number. NAVY -6 & u38

1766487081194.jpegThese opt-outs have gone fucking crazy. (Almost 30 in BOCA BOWL)

BOWL GAME OPT OUT LIST

Boca Raton Bowl: Toledo vs. Louisville

Toledo Transfer Portal
  • Starting DE Malachi Davis (442 snaps; led team in sacks)
  • Starting S Braden Awls (602 snaps)
  • Starting LB Chris D'Appolonia (638 snaps)
  • Starting LT Stephen Gales
None are expected to play.
Toledo Potential Opt-Outs
  • S Emmanuel McNeil-Warren (headed to Senior Bowl)
  • CB Avery Smith
  • CB Andre Fuller
  • S Nasir Bowers
  • RB Chip Trayanum
  • WR Junior Vandeross III
All are practicing, so it looks promising for their availability. However, McNeil-Warren is also nursing a bit of an injury. The All-American is a projected early round draft pick, so I could see him sitting.
Toledo Injuries
  • QB Tucker Gleason (doubtful)
  • Starting LG Carter Fouty (639 snaps)
Expect Kalieb Osborne to start under center. The freshman signal caller went 15-24 for 260 yards in mainly mop up duty outside of the regular season finale where he looked good vs. Central Michigan after taking over for Gleason at the very end of the 1H. He finished 5-7 for 108 yards (1 TD) and added 68 rushing yards on 10 attempts (sans two sacks) with the Rockets out-scoring the Chips 21-0 after halftime.
Toledo Coaching Changes
Jason Candle took the UConn opening, so co-offensive coordinator and QB coach Robert Weiner will serve as interim. Some other coaches have departed as well, including:
  • Defensive coordinator/LB coach Vince Kehres (Syracuse)
  • Co-defensive coordinator/S coach Ross Watson (Iowa State)
  • Special teams coordinator Stanton Weber (Kansas State)
Offensive line coach Mike Hallett will call the offense, while CB coach Perry Eliano will call the defense. A number of graduate assistants will step up into bigger roles as well, per Weiner.
Louisville Opt-Outs
  • Starting DT Rene Konga (532 snaps)
  • Starting DE Wesley Bailey (520 snaps)
Louisville Potential Opt-Outs
  • QB Miller Moss (will play)
  • WR Chris Bell (out with injury)
  • DE Clev Lubin (should play)
Louisville Injuries
  • WR Chris Bell (OUT)
  • RB Isaac Brown
  • RB Keyjuan Brown
  • RB Duke Watson
  • S Antonio Watts
  • LB Stanquan Clark
Brohm is still unsure about the status of the running backs. He said he hopes at least one plays.

New Orleans Bowl: Western Kentucky vs. Southern Miss

Western Kentucky Transfer Portal
  • CB Dylan Flowers (358 snaps)
  • RB La'Vell Wright (207 snaps)
Tyson Helton usually lets players in the portal suit up for the bowl game.
Western Kentucky Injuries
None worth noting.
Southern Miss Transfer Portal
  • S Corey Myrick (660 snaps)
Southern Miss Potential Opt-Outs
  • CB Josh Moten (841 snaps)
Based on his comments, it sounds like he's leaning toward playing.
Southern Miss Injuries
  • LT Blake Bustard (missed finale; 490 snaps)
Southern Miss Coaching Changes
Charles Huff took the Memphis job, which does increase the chance of opt-outs (stay tuned for updates). Offensive coordinator Blake Anderson will serve as the interim coach and also take over as the head coach next season.

Frisco Bowl: UNLV vs. Ohio

UNLV Injuries
  • TE Var’Keyes Gumms (last played in Week 12)
Ohio Injuries
  • LB Michael Molnar (last played in Week 9)
Ohio Coaching Changes
Head coach Brian Smith has been fired.
"The termination follows an administrative review of allegations that Smith violated the terms of his employment agreement by engaging in serious professional misconduct and participating in activities that reflect unfavorably on the University," the school said in a release.
Defensive coordinator John Hauser will take over as the interim head coach.

North Texas Coaching Changes
Head coach Eric Morris took the job at Oklahoma State and will not be with the team for the bowl. I'd guess North Texas might have a handful of key opt-outs, with a few potentially following Morris to Stillwater, where they'd instantly start. However, per the latest updates, most are expected to play.
Neal Brown will be the next head coach in Denton. Brown did say everybody but Mestemaker (who was receiving an award) attended the team meeting on Monday, for what it's worth.
Special teams coach Drew Svoboda will serve as the interim coach for the bowl game with the rest of the staff expected to stay on for the game, sans Morris.

Today is the biggest bowl day of the year by number of games(8). Actually so decent matchups. I have 2 tickets to the Gator Bowl tonight, and I'm not going, so if anyone's in Jax and wants to go, let me know as I'm giving them away.

Forgot my teasers...

  • 5/6.25 TEAS.(CLEM +7' & o37, NTX +3', ARMY u52) 10-Pt

..and they're still up in bowl season, just not as handily

  • May be not the matchup we expected, after all both were sizable dogs to Georgia & defending champs Ohio State. Didn't seem to matter to either of these suddenly dangerous squads. Last time they met was 1951 with the canes winning 20-7 in Miami. This one means a little bit more, with a shot at the championship game going to the winner. MIA has won back-to-back games vs Top-10 teams for the first time since '92. The Rebs have reeled off 7 straight, an October loss to Georgia, including avenging that loss last time out. MIA QB Carson Beck completed 13 straight passes vs a stout Buckeye "D", but Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss had 12 straight starting the 2nd half vs the Bulldogs. Chambliss' 4Q stats: 7/12, 127 yards & a TD. In Nov loss to UGA, he was 1/10 for 1 yard in the 4th. Ole Miss outscored Georgia 27-13 in the 2nd half. Canes defense had 5 sacks & 2 picks, including a 72 yard pick-6. Miami's 24 points were the most allowed by the Buckeyes all season. After upsetting Georgia, Miss has 7 Sugar Bowl titles (2nd all-time to Alabama's 10). Apparently we have two teams of destiny, but the Canes have the best defense and if their D-front applies pressure and hits on Chamblis they should take care of business. Pick: MIAMI 27-20

I must admit, the Mississippi coach is the first ever in the playoffs with ever a loss, SU or ATS!

  • IU 14-0 THIS SEASON WITH AMAZING 41.6 PPG VS 10.3 PPG ALLOWED FOR AVG MARGING OF 31.3 WITH THE DUCKS A RESPECTABLE 38.0-21.4 OR AVG MARGIN OF 18.6 PPG. HOWEVER, IF YOU DIG A LITTLE DEEPER, IU AVERAGES 7.0 YDS PER PLAY(5.4 RUSH & 9.6 PASS) & ALLOW 4.5 YPP (2.8 & 6.0) WHILE OREGON AVG 7.0 YPP(5.6 & 8.9), ALLOW 4.3 (3.3 & 5.4)
  • SO WE GET TWO VERY EQUALLY MATCHED TEAMS WITH THE DUCKS MAYBE A TAD BETTER ON DEFENSE, ESP PASS D; ORE ALLOWED 51.7 COMPLETION PCT WHILE IU 62.4%, BUT IU STILL MANAGED TO ALLOW A LOWER 3RD DOWN CONVERSION PCT 28.0 TO 35.3
  • When the Hoosiers beat Oregon earlier this year, that was the first IU win vs a top 5 team since 1967! It was also the Ducks' lone loss on the year in a game that was tied 20-20 late.
  • Last week, IU's impressive thrashing of Alabama marked their first bowl win in 34 years (1991). Oregon also impressed with a shutout win over undefeated #2 seed Texas Tech last week. This shapes up as a great matchup that can go either way, not an easy pick but I'll have to roll with the dog in a nail-biter, finishing 24-21 with the winner a coin toss.

Old habits are just hard to shake, and even though I capped for IU last Friday, I still took the Ducks because for literally my whole life including over 30 years of playing the line... Indiana has always sucked bad, like one of the worst teams. Times have changes and with portalnomics in play they will likely be much different in the foreseeable future. Well even after a strong start in the Bowl season, I have managed to find my way into the red again...but still, It's been Fun!
