Boston College-Navy- Simple Breakdown

First and Goal

Hello been following this forum for a while and its a nice classy forum.

On to the game between BC and Navy. Now BC has lost its coach Tom Obrien and defensive coach takes over as coach. BC players like the new coach and wants to keep him here in the future and want to play hard for him. BC owns 6 straight bowl wins vs lesser opponents.

I find great value in BC tomorrow as I looked into these stats.

I checked out some decent running teams that BC has faced this year. Now while they were not option teams, it shows that from a fundamental point they can tackle and have good defensive lineman and good linebackers.

-Wakeforest managed 176 yards on the ground vs BC. However 2 carries were for 91 (81 yard run)and one back carried 19 for 46 yards.

-Virginia Tech ran for 95 for an avg of 3.4 yards vs BC
-Florida State ran for 49 yards on 21 carries for 2.5 avg.
-Clemson ran for 156 yards on 41 carries for an avg of 3.8.

Now BC has had 3 weeks to prepare for the Navy attack. Most teams have only week for NAVY. In practice Navy has been simulating NAVY's offence, and has a good d line to stifle the run as long as lane assigments are met and they do not overpursue.

Navy lost its starting QB in the Rutgers game and has a backup KAIPO EDENUYE. NAVY lost its thunderback BALLARD in the Army game with a broken leg and he is a major force. NAVY rushes between 350 and 450 yards in its wins and if it does not it will lose like vs Rutgers and N Dame.

Here are the passing stats for Navy Qb games he played this year.
-Rutgers 2 for 6 for 28 yards
-Notre Dame 2 for 5 for 25 yards
-Duke- 2 for 4 for 32 yards
7 for 9 for 151 yards vs E michigan
3 for 7 for 35 vs Temple
1 for 6 for 11 yards vs Army

Now vs BC who is stellar vs the run this season and has struggled a little in the secondary this spells trouble. The tell tale sign of the stats is that whether Navy lost to Rutgers and to Notre Dame or in their wins the Qb's stats were pretty much the same. Bc will be ready for the Navy Run and Navy cannot pass its way back in the game.

BC is led by RYAN who is a solid QB, behind a very big experienced O line. He should have good time to throw and do well vs a weak secondary of the Navy Midshipmen.

The loss of BALARD and with this Qb KAIPO who played 5 games, who cannot throw the ball, Navy will not stay close to Bc.

Boston College will move the ball on Navy with Ryan through the air. Boston College is more of a throwing team this year. RYAN with his experience and the athletes at receiver and the huge O line should allow BC to have success.

NAVY will have to stick with the run as you saw the Qb's stats above. Now I do not think they will run the ball down Bc's throat as they did vs Duke, Temple. E Michigan and Army. It will be a case of the game vs Rutgers 34-0 loss or Notre Dame 38-14 loss. Surely NAVY will have to throw for more than the QB's 2 completion avg and 30 yards?? It is obvious he cannot throw. I do not see how Navy will be able to hang with BC without any legitimate throwing stats. I have watched enough games to learn that conversions on 3rd down for more than 3 yards are going to be hard to pick up on the ground vs good teams. With Navy's passing stats I see a lot of 3 and outs.

Playing Bc for a larger than normal play

Good luck to everyone

Thanks for the welcome

Also BC is as healthy as they have been all season. Junior Centre Kevin SHERIDAN returns to centre after missing the last 3 games. This means BEEKMAN can move back to right guard. According to coach Spaziani with Beekman back at right guard they are a much better team.

I love that Hawaii kid at QB for Navy.....but he is too young......leaning heavily toward BC and ya sold me on it bud......

GL to us........:spank: :spank:

Yeah I know there has been a lot of talk about the coaching changes to BC. But they have had time to get over that shock. Also coach Spaziani said its been business as usual and has had a few hiccups but preparation has been good. I like the fact we have a blue collar tough team and not a soft team that is smoke and mirrors such as Clemson.

Navy will have the home crowd edge but BC has won in Boise last year and in North Carolina the year before. Getting their centre back for this game makes Bc up front even better as all players are playing in natural positions.

Bc doesen't take teams lightly and will make life difficult for the Navy young QB.

Welcome aboard ~

Was doing some reading from Navys coaches' notes and a couple of interviews from past couple of days and it sure seemed as if he is genuinely concerned by the strength and size of BC.
Seemed comfortable playing in his own backyard and made mention of the players who are also from that area.
Something that caught my attention was the big break that was taken for Christmas. I'm sure all teams had some sort of break but he did not seem very pleased with the rustiness of his guys coming back from the break.
As mentioned, most teams have only 1 week to prepare for Navy.
With an interim calling the shots for BC you have to assume that the preparation for this was done in a 'full-time' manner.
We all saw some teams get caught with their pants down coming into their respective games and you can bet your ass that preparation, or the lack of, had plenty to do with the outcome of those games.
Don't look for BC to be 'under-prepared'. Won't happen.
Did not mean to come in here and ramble on but I agree with your read on this one and I see BC winning this one by coming out and playing some smash mouth football, right out of the gate and playing for the entire 60 minutes in that fashion.

BC wins comfortably.

Oh yeah, BTW, nice writeup!!!!

The top starters are NAvy's. Lower one is BC.

The left end on Navy is 225 pounds going against 321 lb right guard for Bc.
I like 3 out of 5 Bc offensive lineman over 300 pounds. This is a physical mismatch. Navy has an offensive lineman 5'11. Navy has not fared a team this big all year. Bc played 8 bowl teams, Navy played 4 going 1-3 losing badly. The real key is that Navy will absolutely have to stop Bc from either running or passing to have a chance. Now I don't think they can get pressure on Ryan with our big Oline. Judging from their pass D I do not think they can stop us throwing. But the major fact is that the easiest way to move the ball is the old fashioned smash mouth way. These days teams from smaller conferences are getting more and more even in terms of recruting bigger-faster players. Bc is physically dominant over Navy, and they can will move the ball on the ground all day. and pass vs Navy with Ryan the leading passer in the Acc.

Why do you suppose the ml is only 290$ and 7pts being the spread I think BC blow out Navy here but why is this line not 10 or 11?

Veto,
IMO, I think Vegas is making more of a deal about the coaching move and the kids won't play the game hard. That is my best guess because as was stated here nicely, BC is just plain bigger and stronger than Navy and will wear them down. I am on BC no doubt. Also, Iowa is a very LIVE doag today against a Texas team that is wanting next year to begin.

Great writeup and you make compelling points, but I don't think Navy will be overpowered at the point of attack and made BC just a 3-point favorite. Had to take seven here, but not before welcoming you to the gig. Thanks for the classy words and GL the rest of the bowl season, starting about 4:30 Eastern today! haha...

DITTO, What REX said...

There is a lot of value in Navy, with over +80 on Boston College thats telling me that "Vegas" is making a big bet against BC, their offense is by no means explosive and Navy can control the clock and time of possession, THis will be a very low scoring game and a battle of Field position. I dont see BC running away with it at anytime, Alabama had an interim coach and his players couldnt get it done for him....+7 is a lot of points againsst a sputtering BC squad, Remember this is a bowl game, the underdogs get up when the whole world is against them, Look at the TT game last night, this is the same situation..'an_horse'
