It's clear how the committee thinks, but I'm curious how the common fan thinks. Is a team more deserving or better if they lose to the one or two good teams they play but beat everyone else, or if they lose to teams they shouldn't have, but beat other playoff caliber teams? In my mind, if you're trying to get the 12 "best" teams (not most deserving), then assuming similar records you would take the team that has shown they can beat other teams in the playoff. But maybe I'm the one who's wrong

Basically, does a bad loss trump a great win?

Good question.

This system will evolve for several years and great debate will ensue, which they love.

Think about this, Mich could have scheduled a directional school instead of going to Norman this year. They would be 8-1 and be currently ranked as a playoff team.

Would they deserve to be in as currently construed? Absolutely not. But, we can see those types of situations (on both ends) occur yearly until we settle into our final product.

We want to see big games during the season. That's what the fans need.

Yeah that's kind of where I'm heading on this. The teams that schedule those games and win, get a huge boost. But the teams that lose the games get unfairly punished IMO, when compared to teams that play a pitiful non-conference. I think it's much better for the sport to have these big OOC games, especially before the conference games start. I'm not saying a team should be absolved of a loss, but there should be more conversation around it when we start ranking for the CFP. I get that it's so hard to turn a blind eye to that "L," but that's why we have a committee. They have to be able to show some nuance or else we just need to have the computers do it again

To answer your question, the Indy’s and Ole Miss’ won’t be able to play this game forever.

I used to think so, but part of me thinks we'll see the cancellation of a bunch of big OOC games in the future and the manipulation of conference schedules to do everything to guarantee that each conference has the best chance of as many teams in the CFP as possible
