Tide High

I autodrafted this team... i need to pick up another pitcher or two i think. I'm looking at ian kennedy, randy johnson, and I have George Sherril on waivers for Scot Rolen. Not sure i'll get him though...

C Kenji Johjima
1B Hafner
2B Brandon Phillips
3B Arod
SS Tulowiski
OF Vlad
OF Andruw Jones
OF Delmon Young
Util Matt Kemp
BN LaRoche, Kalil Green, Ian Kinsler, Scot Rolen

SP James Shields
SP Pedro Martinez
RP Takashi Saito
RP Kevin Gregg

P Jeremy Guthrie
BN Jon Lester

quick list of good looking pitchers left out there...
Sherril
RJ
Neshek
Kuroda
Marcum
Maddux
Morales
Glavine
Buehrle
Fuentes
Owens

With a team like that, if there wasn't a maximum on roster moves, I'd stream the pitching... Keep an open spot on your roster and spot start guys. No reason to break up that offense, and pitching is always available on the free agent wire.

good point fondy. i don't think i can flat drop anyone on O for any pitcher at this point. except Rolen for a closer. i'm probably going to hold onto what i got unless i get a good trade offer for a stud pitcher. no max on roster moves so it looks like ill have my usual 100+ moves and piss everyone off again ;)

only guy i could move for a decent pitcher is Ian Kinsler. one team has kelly johnson and no other 2B option. his pitching staff is below.

Bedard
Zambrano
Putz
Nathan
Valverde
Lincecum
Dustin McGowan
Heath Bell

So he's loaded at pitcher. see any SP/2B combo trade that would work with my team to upgrade my staff?

I'd offer something like Kinsler and Gregg for McGowan and Putz, Nathan, or Valverde. Big fan of McGowan having a break out year.

don't think he'll come off putz or nathan for that considering he took putz in the 4th and nathan in the 5th. not sure valverde is worth it.

thanks for the tip on McGowan

well i got Sherrill off waivers and he's just been named the closer. I'm holding what I've got. Hopefully my entire bench starts red hot and i can trade Kinsler early in the year.

just read lackey was out till mid may with a strained right triceps

didnt realize it was that bad...wouldnt touch him

I'd take a shot at Lincecum. Had a solid season last year and hopefully will have the arm to go for the whole season this year. That guy has loads of promise. If he can get 3 runs a game he should be in good shape.

I think you are overvaluing kinsler, I'm not sure he's even that much of an improvement over Kelly Johnson...

i mean seriously pujols and arod on one team? i'd dominate RBI + HR, plus we have a cat for xtra base hits. so i'd dominate all 3.

It's an interesting offer. Pujols slid ridiculously in the CTG league, I think Yanks (?) got him with like the 16th pick or something. Spring indicators are he's Pujols as usual. If you don't despise your MI or 2B replacement for Phillips on your team, I'd consider the deal. Hafner's just a little bit iffy, and DH-only, #48 looks a little high. Stats this year should be somewhere in between 2006 and 2007 whereas Pujols could realistically win the NL MVP. (Or have season-ending surgery.)

thanks.

my team is autodrafted without my prerank. i've got Kinsler as a backup 2B, i wish i could dump him for something, but no ons is biting. i definitely don't want him riding my bench all year, unless something happens to phillips. i'm not high on hafner, i would not have picked him where i did.

that is the guy's roster. anything better than taveras that'd he'd take?

Problem with Taveras isn't just that he's a one-trick pony, it's that Colorado has a bunch of outfielders on the big club and in AAA. His job security is shaky. And for a guy with zero power, you'd prefer 50 SB to 30-something. That said, he's got a job right now, he'll score runs and steal bases. I like Hamilton better than Taveras for 2008, or maybe a healthy closer if you could use one, Kerry Wood if you want to roll the dice. Could save 40+. Not sold on Ankiel.

The CTG draft was very early, and fell on like the same day that the Pujols elbow news was all over the place. I had an auction a few days earlier and he went in the low thirties, as opposed to about the $40 he generally goes for. I think his spring has pretty much corrected the Pujols market.

i got ya...

i can't decide with this. i don't like hafner, but he should rack up the RBIs with the lineup around him. will Pujols even have anyone on base when he comes to the plate?! Do ya think Phillips can repeat or improve on last year? I hate to give him up.

If I remember right Yanks got him at #21 in the CTG draft. He had an early pick (top 3 or 4) then got Pujols in 2nd round late which is a hell of a steal.

well i rejected. I hope i don't need the RBI+HR 's with Arod, Vlad, Hafner, Phillips, and Andruw Jones. My pitching staff is horrid, so any upgrade I trade for has to be there. thanks.

the thing about Pujols is the Cardinals suck...

How do they not pull the plug on him in July when theyre 15 games out to get him ready for the '09 season?

very true smoke, and that was a deciding factor. no one on base when he's up. he'll get lots of walks... and Tony already said he's going to sit him 2 or 3 times a month, no matter what. if they get way below .500 we could see him out for the year.

OK I just read this thread for the first time, here's what I think...

Players to Drop
-Rolen (Old, injured)
-Khalil Greene (Don't need his .250 avg when you already have Tulo)
-Guthrie (Fluke of a year, won't even be a top 150 pitcher this year)
-Trade Lester (he's overrated but a lot of people still believe in him for some reason)
-Trade B Phillips (Kinsler will outproduce him in almost every category, but B Phillips has a lot more trade value)

-Pick Up Kuroda (He looks legit, should have ERA around 4, with 110+ Ks and 10+ Wins)
-Pick Up Ian Kennedy (He'll have some struggles like all youngsters but will get plenty of wins on the Yanks, and has great stuff when he's on... will rack up the K's, may walk a little too many guys to keep his WHIP down)

-I would have taken that Pujols trade in a heartbeat. Pujols should be more valuable than Hafner and Phillips combined. Then you get Taveras thrown in, who will almost be as valuable as Phillips in production terms (not accounting for position eligibility)

thanks posey.

rolen was dropped, no one wanted lester, dropped as well. i'm hating guthrie as well. was about to drop him, but hoping someone would trade for him, probably not...

missed kuroda and kennedy. both were picked up

i don't see how you think kinsler will match phillips.

i'm sure u know this, but please give me your arguments why this year will be different from last year

Kinsler 07
R 96
HR 20
RBI 61
SB 23
AVG .263
XBH 44

Phillips
R 107
HR 30
RBI 94
SB 32
AVG .288
XBH 62

that's a considerable upgrade in EVERY category.

I'm expecting 65 HRs and 200 RBIs from Phillips+Hafner. couple that with Arod and Vlad, and i don't think i need to upgrade (if pujols is an upgrade) for HRs + RBIs + XBH, but i need to trade for pitching. that's why i didn't take the trade. Pujols would definitely be an upgrade in AVG, though.
