Dodgers Baseball Gang Too Tough for Brewers

The NLCS goes from Milwaukee to Los Angeles for Game Three. The Dodgers host the Brewers on Monday at 7:39 ET on FS1. Bet on L.A. to ride the momentum from their Game Two victory in Milwaukee.

Game Three: Milwaukee at Los Angeles

Monday, 7:39 ET (FS1)

MLB Pick: Dodgers ML

L.A.’s Walker Buehler (8-5, 2.62 ERA) gets another crack at postseason play. The youngster’s first start was rough. Besides it being his first ever taste of the playoffs, he had to pitch on the road against a desperate Atlanta team facing elimination. For his second postseason experience, Buehler gets to pitch in front of the Dodger faithful. Whereas he’s yielding negative units on the road, at home, he’s yielding +1.5 units and the Dodgers have won his last three home starts.

Buehler’s favorite pitch is his fastball. He throws it with 40 percent frequency and relies on it most in all scenarios. For instance, he leans on it most often as his first pitch in the count. But, he can also be unpredictable by working backwards and utilizing it with two strikes. For most pitchers, their fastball is a serviceable pitch that they try to get some outs with. If they allow some runners on base, then they amp up the usage of their breaking and off-speed stuff in order to get tougher outs. But Buehler’s fastball is very effective despite its high usage. It’s yielding an opposing .178 BA. Its two primary features are the same as the fastball of Astro great Justin Verlander: velocity and spin rate. Batters struggle to react to its 96 mph average velocity and struggle to track its movement because it’s deceptive with 2415 rpm (rotations per minute). Moreover, it boasts some subtle arm-side movement that makes it that more elusive. Also, unlike Verlander’s fastball, it’s deceptive in that it shares similar vertical and horizontal release points with another one of his pitches, (his curveball) so that batters can’t discern which pitch is leaving his hand and have greater difficulty adjusting their swing to whichever pitch approaches them.

Besides his fastball, Buehler boasts a mix of secondary pitches that compose 55 percent of his arsenal, a sinker, cutter, slider, and curve. Opponents bat under .190 against both his slider and curve and .225 against his sinker. He uses deception with these pitches by allowing their vertical and horizontal release points to intersect. His sinker is elusive with strong arm-side and vertical movement. His slider has very little vertical movement, making it hard for the batter to track its movement. But it has a lot of „slide“ to it. His curve also has strong negative movement and good glove-side movement.

With his quality, Buehler allowed only one run in seven innings when L.A. hosted Milwaukee on July 31. In 20 at-bats, the Brewers mustered only one extra-base hit. Anyways, Milwaukee’s top hitter, Christian Yelich, is in a slump that he wasn’t in at that time. He’s batting .188 in the postseason.

Los Doyers are very familiar with Milwaukee pitcher Jhoulys Chacin (15-8, 3.50 ERA) because he used to be a Padre and the Padres play in the NL West with Los Angeles. The Dodgers have him figured out. When he visited L.A. on August 2, he conceded eight runs in 4.1 innings. Watch for Cody Bellinger who is batting .417 and slugging 1.083 against him. Justin Turner is also hitting over .300 and slugging over .900 against him.

The Brewers rely above all on their bullpen. But the bullpen is not looking nearly as effective in the NLCS as it did in the NLDS against Colorado. Through two games against L.A., Milwaukee’s bullpen has already conceded eight runs. L.A. batters have evidently done their homework on Milwaukee’s relievers and will continue to hit well against them.

Chacin has been brilliant every start lately except that 8/2/18 game at LA. I’m going to throw that game out and take plus money with Chacin at a pitcher friendly park. Hopefully Buhler is tired after a long season and is not used to going this deep in the year.

The difficulty in this matchup is determining how Chacin pitches (and how long). I think he has a terrible matchup vs. all the lefty dodger hitters, but say he goes 2-3 innings without getting shelled....then you are looking at Hader against some of those lefties. Then they go deep with Woodruff, Jeffress (struggling but nasty), Knebel, SOoria, Burnes, Cedeno... and the Dodgers don't want a bullpen game.

Odds are too high for me to have any interest in the Dodgers. If its a 1 run game in the first 3, probably playing Brewers Live.

I hate chacin splits vs lefties. Couldn’t lay this price tag on la tho. Agree w dollaz if chacin can keep it close for 3-4 innings then adv milw. No clue if he will, might do same and wait for live or just root for milw to get series lead back for my futures sake!! Lol

F5 Under? Santa Ana winds howling in...will die down later around the same time the Brewer pen implodes unless MAGA Hader is in the game.
