Alfred Dunhill Championship @ Leopard Creek

LeRinkRat

Pretty much a regular
Alfred Dunhill Championship December 13th thru 16th @ Leopard Creek CC, Malelane, South Africa

last winner South African Brandon Stone in 2016 [-22]. Charl Schwartzel the winner in 2015 [-15]. they have completely re-done the course since then

favorites: last weeks winner Louis Oosthuizen 9-2. Charl Schwartzel 15-2. Brandon Grace 17-2. Matt Wallace 12-1 and Dylan Frittelli 16-1. Brandon Stone, Dean Burmester, Thomas Aiken and last weeks solo 2nd Romain Langasque all 25-1

IF I had to play "you bet your bollocks" I would go with Oosthuizen again this week. he was just in "cruise control" last week @ the Firethorn GC in Johannesburg BUT went ahead and chanced a very few high odds "cats & dogs" just in case (bet/return)

well the opening scores at Leopard Creek definitely NOT what I expected. last weeks leaders at the South Africa Open forgot how to play golf this week . last weeks winner Louis Oosthuizen [-18] shoots [-1] current tied 22nd and Thomas Aiken (who tied 3rd last week), Brandon Grace and Matt Wallace ALL over par. only about a third of the field was even or better on what looks to be a wide open "public links" type course. was some wind but NOT that bad. greens are huge and seem to be really firm. saw a bunch of good approach shots not hold and "rabbit" off the back on the green.

1st round leader South African Oliver Bekker (OWGR #305) with a [-6] with my "to win" play Dimitrious Papadatos solo 2nd [-5] and Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin (OWGR #489) solo 3rd at [-4]. then nine more tied 4th at [-3] including Dylan Frittelli and Brandon Stone

my tourney match plays a MESS as usual
Thomas Aiken +130 [+1] over Brandon Stone [-3] 4 down
Ernie Els +120 [+1] over George Coetzee [+1] TIED
Matt Wallace +110 [+2] over Brandon Grace [+1] 1 down

better scoring the 2nd round at Leopard Creek and some surprises at the top. journeyman American David Lipsky (pre-tourney 150-1) the leader with a [-6] for tourney [-8] then four Scotsmen tied 2nd or 3rd Marc Warren [-5] and Scott Jamieson [-6] tourney [-7] with David Drysdale [-3] and Doug McGuigan (OWGR #889) [-6] tourney [-6]. six more tied 6th at [-5] including my "to win" players Dimitrious Papadatos [even] and Oliver Wilson [-3] along with pre tourney favorites Brandon Stone [-2] and Dylan Frittelli [-2], the CUT came at [+3]

the GOOD the BAD and The UGLY in my tourney match plays
Thomas Aiken +130 [even] for [+1] over Brandon Stone [-2] for [-5] 6 down
Ernie Els +120 [-5] for [-4] over George Coetzee [-2] for [-1] 3 up
Matt Wallace +110 [-1] for [+1] over Brandon Grace [even] for [+1] TIED

Well SHIT!!! Scotsman Scott Jamieson the 3rd round leader [-4] for [-11] one up on 2nd round leader David Lipsky [-2] for [-10]. then South Africans Brandon Stone [-3] and Zander Lombard [-4] tied 3rd [-8]. my "to win" plays Papadatos and Wilson both "blew up". although I have NO money on his 150-1 I will be pulling for the American Lipsky. he pretty much struggled lately and last season with CUTS the last two weeks @ SA Open and Mauritius and his best finish last season tied 6th Dubai Desert Classic January of 2018. his ONLY Euro Tour win the European Masters back in 2014

AND I'm pretty much FUCKED in tourney match plays. Stone vs Aiken a blowout, Ernie Els going backwards and "WALL-E" vs "Dis" Grace too close to call. THAT usually ends in tears for me
Thomas Aiken +130 [-1] for [even] over Brandon Stone [-3] for [-8] 8 down
Ernie Els +120 [+1] for [-3] over George Coetzee [-1] for [-2] 1 up
Matt Wallace +110 [-2] for [-1] over Brandon Grace [-2] for [-1] TIED

well congratulations to American David Lipsky with the 2nd WIN of his Euro Tour career final round [-4] for tourney [-14] two shots over solo 2nd place Scotsman David Drysdale [-5] for [-12] and three over Zandel Lombard [-3] and Scott Jamieson [even] for [-11]

just GLAD to get a 1-1-1 "splitski" in my tourney match plays. looked like it was gonna be a complete WRECK after Saturday
Thomas Aiken +130 ] [+6] for [+6] over Brandon Stone [+4] for [-4] LOSE 10 down
Ernie Els +120 [+1] for [-2] over George Coetzee [even] for [-2] TIE even
Matt Wallace +110 [-2] for [-3] over Brandon Grace [even] for [-1] WIN 2 up

really PISSED at myself for NOT chancing Lipsky @ 150-1. I usually DO play him with those odds BUT CUTS his last two scared me off
