Not only did the player make a terrible play in the sense of the interference but he can actually let him catch that as it would have been short of the first down by two yards or so. Interfered for no reason. Zero chance they go for it there.

Yeah his answer makes no sense unless he is saying the pass was really awful. He was there early enough to make a legit play on the ball, even intercept it. So he is basically saying the pass sucked, right? Logically that would seem the case. Easy way of making his bad/stupid play sound like a good/smart play.
