UFC 314: Volkanovski/Lopes

Kaseya Center, Miami United States
Early Prelims:
  • 2/3.80 Hailey Cowan +190
  • 3/1.71 Marco Tulio wins inside distance -175
  • 3/3.36 Marco Tulio/Tresean Gore Under 1½ +112
  • 3/4.80 Sedriques Dumas +160

  • Cowan brings athleticism and a grappling-heavy approach. She has shown ability to smother opponents in the clinch and on the may. Cornolle has the Muay Thai background and will want to keep the fight standing. This one may go either way but with the odds...the vaue is with the prettier lady.
  • Tulio has been on fire winning 9 straight and displaying devastating KO power. Odds are long so we will try under and ITD.
  • Dumas and Oleksiejczuk both like to throw and have instincts for landing big shots. Dumas is younger with more power with especially accurate body kicks. Oleksiejczuk has lost his last 3 although his chin has held up, the many wars have to add up. Another live dog early.

  • Usually when the "Damage" fights you can expect a long back and forth war, however Erosa(30-11) has length, athleticism and a polished power striking game. This one gets ugly fast.
  • Chase is coming into his own and I do think he gets it done, but these odds are fucking ridiculous.
  • Xiaonan probably beats any 115er on the planet other than the champ and will make it pretty easy vs a very game Jandiroba (21-3). Very surprised she's a dog, don't be fooled.
  • 50K has run into some tough MF'ers lately. Once again he's getting a solid rising star at the wrong time. Woodson (13-1) is very long, skilled and very willing to mix it up. Ige may find some success in close as he's great in the pocket, but I expect "The Sniper" to land big shots from distance and wear Dan down.

  • Krylov-Reyes is actually a bad stylistic matchup for a good fight. I see bad and forth without major action and likely decision.
  • Silva (15-2) has definitely been fast paced to the top. He brings lots of action and is also fun in his promos...even without the benefit of English. That said Mitchel (17-2) will be his toughest tast to date and it'll be interesting how he does if "Thug Nasty" drags him to the ground and get top position. I'. backing Bryce on value although I think Silva has the better chance to win so long as he stays off his back.
  • Pitbull finally debuts in the UFC, this should have been 5 years ago. Now I believe he's still very good and beats most of the featherweights on the roster, but fuck...he's starting at the top with #5 Yair who is a difficult puzzle to solve with his flashy kicks and strikes with a huge reach advantage. I think maybe Yair is overpriced a tad, but I'll still bite. Probably an over too with both combatant so damn durable.
Paddy's finally hit the top of the card vs top 10 competition. You know crazy ass Chandler will push the fight into a slug-fest early. Paddy looks way bigger at prefight face-offs and sin Scousers don't get knocked out, I'll ride with the baddy!

End of the day this card delivered. Not so much for me, but for the fans, I was victimized by the refs...potentially on 3 occasions tonight. No guarantees I would have won but really the stoppages in both the Dumas and Woodson fights came way early. The Woodson especially came so quick, I didn't see Sean hurt at any point. The other instance went the other way as the rf left Gore out there far to long and he took way more damage than he should have. I realize this is subjective and I'm not crying over the losses, wouldn't even consider any of the "bad beats", it's just these refs should be better on a more consistent basis.
