Early prelims:

• Altamirano Sub ...Da Silva burns out his gas tank early with an array of spinning strikes and jumping attacks. Perhaps Da Silva will opt for a slightly more conservative approach after an 0-2 start, but he'll likely bank on chin-checking Altamirano early. It’s very questionable whether Altamirano can survive a frenetic first round, but the DWCS victor does have the easier path to victory.
• Aoriqileng KO ...All banger, Perrin is an entertaining brawler...although it’s never a good sign to be dominated by Mario Bautista. Perrin is unlikely to takedown Aoriqileng...the vastly superior wrestler, Cody Durden, struggled to take it to the mat. On the feet, Aoriqileng is a more durable, harder-hitting aggressor.
• Albazi Decision ...Figgy did silence many haters with his exceptionally slick kneebar over Daniel da Silva. On the feet, Figueiredo is largely one-pace with occasional explosiveness. Albazi’s smooth jab likely proves a puzzle too challenging for Figueiredo to crack. Amir also has a glittering submission offense and natural physical gifts – there may be a late stoppage or decisive decision.

UFC 278: ABC Prelims​

AJ Fletcher (9-1) vs Ange Loosa (8-3) ~ Welterweight (170)

• Loosa ...A surprisingly adept scrambler, Loose taps his solid athleticism. Fletcher's a relentless wrestler with a solid gas tank bound to make Loosa work. Loosa’s consistently stiff jab most likely keeps Fletcher’s desperate attempts to shoot at bay.​

Sean Woodson (9-1) vs Luis Saldana ~ Featherweight (145)

• Woodson Decision ...Woodson has been more aggressive since the Erosa loss and Saldana will likely be comfortable accepting the early firepower. If Woodson can’t close the fight, Saldana will ask the same questions that Erosa posed – has Woodson developed enough? Close call but I'll back Woodson’s variety while standing and his extended bursts of volume.

Jared Gordon (18-5) vs Leonardo Santos (18-5-1) ~ Lightweight (155)

• Gordon ITD ...Question is just how washed is Santos these days? He still brings a potent kickboxing game with a terrifying submission arsenal, but his gas tank and durability are waning. A few years ago, Santos would have been the heavy favorite vs Gordon. Nowadays, Gordon has better defense and will bring pressure that the 42-year-old Santos will definitely have trouble with.

Marcin Tybura (22-7) vs Alexandr Romanov (16-0) ~ Heavyweight (265)

• Romanov ...After barely beating Juan Espino, Romanov seems to have taken his fitness seriously leading to greater success on the mat. He's an aggressive, exciting wrestler who gladly runs head-first into his preferred game. Tybura is tighter on the feet, especially defensively, and has a chance to steal a decision if Romanov can't get this fight to the mat. I do expect Romanov to muscle this to the mat and prove impossible for Marcin to shrug off.

UFC 278: Main Card​

Tyson Pedro (8-3) vs Harry Hunsucker ~ Light Heavyweight (205)

• Pedro KO Round 1 ...Pedro’s defense shouldn’t be an issue considering his firepower keeping Hunsucker gun-shy. Add in Hunsucker’s mental snap, afraid of incoming shots in recent fights, and it seems an easy side to back.

Lucie Pudilova vs Yanan Wu ~ Women’s Bantamweight (135)

• Pudilova Decision ...With all-out aggression, Wu digs into her durability in the hopes that she can unravel opponents through blistering pressure. Old Pudilova would be able to meet Wu in the middle and trade 50/50. With the Czech fighter now leading with the jab on the outside, Wu is too open to be hit. There isn’t a huge technical discrepancy as Mulan could certainly overwhelm Pudilova’s newfound technical approach, but I’m backing the fighter with better form.

Jose Aldo(31-7) vs Merab Dvalishvili(14-4) ~ Bantamweight (135)

• Aldo KO ...Living up to his name, The Machine is a ferocious chain-wrestler with an endless gas tank. Even if Dvalishvili cannot keep Aldo down, it will burn through Aldo’s aging gas tank and lead to mistakes later down the line. Still, Aldo has long been a phenomenal anti-wrestler. Although Merab’s striking has refined, especially in combinations, he still lacks any threat on the outside. Aldo should be able to tear apart Dvalishvili’s body. Upset special, take the legend!
