2024 New Rules

Special teams coaches are really going to have to earn their money now. Everything they’ve ever taught about kick coverage and kick returns are basically out the window. The whole “stay in your lane” and “lane integrity” essentially no longer exist. The ST coaches will be learning a new job, so to speak, on the fly.

I’m looking forward to it as we *should* (at least initially) see more kickoff return TDs and other wild things happening on kickoffs. Going to be fun to watch, and interesting to see how coaches/teams adapt as the season goes on.

yeah, I'm gonna need a 5yr old to explain this to me.
I especially like this statement.

The Competition Committee proposed these changes in an effort to increase the safety of kickoffs and reduce the number of full-speed collisions during those types of plays. It is also an effort by the league to increase the number of kickoff returns, as recent rule changes have eliminated most returns in favor of touchbacks.

Hate the new onside kick rules.

Hip drop tackle rule is total garbage. Let the men play football and tackle.

Curious to see how often the new challenge rule comes up. Seems like a overall win.

Was initially against the new kickoff setup but after seeing it in action during HOF game I'm more intrigued. Think we'll see more returns as a result of players breaking that first level sooner and then off to the races. Interested to see how teams adapt over the full season.

What do y'all think now about the new kickoff? I've been offshore so haven't been able to watch a game yet.

I haven't watched one live kickoff yet.

I'm interested to see some data come in after this week's games that could show the difference (if any).

LSU, re: the no more hip tackles: "I thought read it’s gonna be more fines than flags."

If they keep eliminating ways to tackle, someday the game will end up as "flag" - flag football.
