2023 Gambling Suspensions

What is the NFL's policy? That they can collect $$$ from Draftkings and Fanduel and promote gambling on its shows but the players have to toe the line? They should know that when you lay down with dogs you'll sometimes wake up with fleas.

Pretty interesting.

So Jamo made a bet on team property, the team bus or a team plane?

That's how it's reading.

The new NBA CBA cracks me up with the involvement factor.

Just wait...

Saw a tweet today that alleges that Jamo bet on an NCAA game while at the team hotel in a different state. Guess the hotel counts as team property? Wonder how many people knew that rule?

If these teams don't have a risk management person that has handled every aspect of this in team meetings they have no one to blame but themselves. The Colts DB actually bet on his own team inside of their facilities it sounds like. How does that even happen?

I saw that too.

I figured it was something stupid like that.

Boxers do it all the time from what I understand. Or used to, documented I think.
Obviously can’t bet against themselves
Before the Internet there had to be several times they bet against themselves using someone else to place the bets. 2nd easiest sport to throw next to tennis, only other people you have to rely on are the judges unless you get "knocked out" like Peter McNeeley

Trust me I wouldn’t put anything past boxing
Just saying they used to for sure

Yep I remember Oscar De La Hoya vs Trinidad when Trinidad intentionally lost the fight. Unfortunately for Trinidad, the judges had other ideas. Poor Trinidad.

From ESPN article:

When it comes to any potential mixed messaging because of NFL owners' willingness to enter sponsorship relationships with sportsbooks -- even while NFL coaches and staff are prohibited from placing wagers of any kind and players are subject to tight restrictions on their gambling activities -- the NFL insists there is no double standard.

"It's just a little bit of apples and oranges," Perel said.

That’s hilarious…..it’s not a double standard, it’s apples and oranges….we treat the apples one way and the oranges another…that explanation for not being a double standard will soon be adopted by every politician in the country.

Not everything has to be or can be equal and the same all the time. Players get to do things owners can not, owners get to do things players can not. Players have chosen a professional sports career and there are restrictions that come with that. If they wanted to be an investment advisor, then there are restrictions that come with that profession. There may be certain restrictions in their contracts on personal conduct and activities that other employment agreements do not have. Different people, different careers, have different rules and standards. Not everything has to be the same. The NFL and owners can partner with gambling entities and players can not participate. Not a big deal.

Problem for the gambling public is the NFL CFB and all sports will ignore most of the gambling issues because they’re not going to rat on their own businesses.
