Thoughts? Early lines from Sportsbook that I like.

Zach Johnson 50 to 1
Kaymer 35 to 1
Bubba 25 to 1
Villegas 250 to 1

Thanks for starting a thread.

Really looking forward to the PGA. I love Whistling Straits as a major venue, especially for PGA obviously.

We have a lot of good storylines here...

-Can Jordan win 3 of 4?
-Can Jason Day breakthrough. He was clutch as can be late at Canada Open. He finished 4 back in 2010.
-DJ after all the heartbreak this year is back to the scene of one of the crimes. He was right there 5 years ago and that was after his US Open blowup at Pebble
-Rory could be back. He was one putt away from a playoff.
-Bubba was right there as well finishing one back

Bubba 25-1 is not bad at all.

Kaymers form goes up and down so not really sure there.

As far as the top 2 players in the world....Dimes has this up right now...

Bridgestone is the key lead up. Last 8 PGA Championship winners finished in the top 22 at Bridgestone. Five of the top 6 at last years PGA finished in the top 20 the week before (Ryan Palmer didn't play at Bridgestone)

already booked four mid range players and two "big dogs" for the PGA

Louis Oostuizen @ 24-1. lost playoff @ British Open. tie for 2nd and tied for 2nd @ US Open

Rickie Fowler @ 25-1. WON @ The Players and Scottish Open this season. 2nd @ The Quicken last week

Justin Rose @ 25-1. WON @ New Orleans. tied for 2nd @ Masters. lost a playoff @ The Memorial and finished 2nd. 4th last week @ The Quicken

Jim Furyk @ 55-1. WON @ Harbour Town. tied for 5th @ The Memorial & 4th @ the Canadain Open

Danny Lee @ 150-1. WON @ The Greenbrier. tied for 3rd @ John Deere and tied for 4th @ The Quicken

David Lingmerth @ 250-1. WON @ The Memorial. tied 6th @ The Greenbrier and 3rd @ The Quicken

btw, BOTH Lee and Lingmerth are 75-1 this weekend @ The Bridgestone while last weeks Quicken winner Troy Merritt is 110-1

don't know WHY you say "Jason Day can NOT break thru". just won the Canadian Open after finishing tied for 4th @ the British Open the week before and tied for 9th @ the US Open while fighting a bout of vertigo. he is the 2nd favorite @ The Bridgestone this week after Jordan Spieth along with Rickie Fowler :nonofinger:

if it was match play against BAR I'd still say Day couldn't win

Looking at the two previous PGA’s at Whistling Straits. Both have been playoffs

2004
Vijay Singh (multiple Major champ) in a playoff from
Justin Leonard – previous major winner
Chris Dimarco – 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] major T10 of the year, 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] in the Masters the next year
T4 – Ernie Els – multiple major winner and probably the best links player ever
Chris Riley
Also in the T10 were Bitch Tits Phil and Adam Scott

2010
Martin Kaymer – multiple major winner, beat in a playoff
Bubba Watson – multiple major winner
T3 – Rory McIlroy – multiple major winner
Zach Johnson – multiple major winner
T5 – Steve Elkington – major winner
Jason Dufner – major winner
Dustin Johnson – head case that should have won at least one major

Rory, Zach, Phil, Leonard and Ernie all won a British Open. Scott threw away a win or two, DJ choked again. DiMarco finished 2nd as had Vijay

This is the third strait major on a links course

more thoughts later...

well I guess I will defer to your obviously superior judgement about Jason Day as the ONLY player (along with Henrik Stenson) at the Bridgestone the weekend before the PGA that I did NOT have at least a small bet on was that fat Irish baztard Shane Lowry and he was 125-1 where I book at William-Hill in Las Vegas. had EVERYONE else that finished in the top 6:enraged:

Don't worry, I have Jason Day issues.

Tough break on Lowry. They call him Sugar Shane, for no other reason then his diet

Going over the Whistling Straits stats from ’05 and ’10 GIR seems to be the key stat. Kaymer was 6[SUP]th[/SUP] in GIR in 2010, and in 2005 Singh was 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] and DiMarco was 3[SUP]rd[/SUP]. Predicting GIR isn’t easy, you can’t always tell who will perform well, but there are always guys you can dismiss.

As well as the Bridgestone form from an earlier post, 12 of the past 14 winners have won in the current season. Even huge priced winners like Beem and Yang

So, looking for an American with British Open form, who has won this season and in the top 50 of GIR

So, looking for an American with British Open form, who has won this season and in the top 50 of GIR

Spieth, DJ, Furyk, ZJ, Bubba (no British form though), Fowler

in addition to the six I posted earlier in the month, have added these this week

Bubba Watson 14-1
Brooks Koepka 50-1
Shane Lowry 75-1
Robert Streb 125-1
Steven Bowditch 200-1
Jason Bohn 250-1

still considering Jason Day @ 9-1. he is actually the 2nd favorite after Jordan Spieth @ 5-1 this week @ both William-Hill and Cantor Gaming sportsbooks in Las Vegas

my matchup "lottery ticket" parlays are:

tourney matchups
Jason Day -125 over Dustin Johnson
Bubba Watson -145 over Adam Scott
Jim Furyk -140 over Zack Johnson
Brooks Koepka -130 over Matt Kuchar
Shane Lowrey -120 over Danny Willett
Robert Streb-140 over Frank Molinari
(10/289.90)

1st round matchups
Jason Day -115 over Dustin Johnson
Danny Lee -115 over Branden Grace
Martin Kaymer -140 over Tiger Woods
Shane Lowrey -135 over Webb Simpson
David Lingmerth -145 over Kevin Steelman
Jordan Spieth -140 over Rory MIlroy
(5/151.05)

went past Westgate Superbook tonight and they had Jason Day 12-1 so tacked him on along with his UNDER 15 1/2 -110 (finish in Top 15) along with small play longshots Adam Scott 25-1, Branden Grace 60-1 and Padridge Harrington 200-1. also Jordan Spieth UNDER 10 1/2 (finish in top 10) Justin Rose and Bubba Watson UNDER 20 1/2 (finish in top 20)

I get the Tiger angle...but watching him, Kaymer and Keegan instead of Rickie, Day and DJ on PGA.COM coverage is annoying as hell.

Problem is that golf fans have moved on but casual fans have not. If golf/PGA is only attracting golf fans, they are failing as an industry...they really need Tiger to be successful again, no casual person is tuning in to watch Jordan Spieth, and only maybe a couple will stop by to watch Rory. Golf needs a true character that is a phenom, an entertainer.

Nice thing though is that prices for rounds at nice courses have dropped off tremendously in the last 7 years

I get that totally...

But how many casual fans are tuning into a website waiting for network coverage?

Exactly.

Shit, even the masters puts out two featured groups plus amen corner and 15-17 are available.

Terrible job PGA.

hasn't directtv done channels with extra coverage? are they doing that with this tourney?

the "Tiger Woods to Make the Cut" NO opened +140 @ William-Hill this week and when I went to book it was already beat down to +105. Wednesday was even @ Westgate Superbook. finished +3 1st round :golf:

Regular events Thursday/Friday. A lot of smaller tours and womens tours.

Either next year or the year after they get the first two rounds of the British. First time they'll have live major coverage

Oh DAMN. suspending the 2nd round ls gonna SCREW UP the 3rd round pairings. sure hope they can get the 3rd complete so the final day pairings are available in case I have to HEDGE something :nightmare:
