2014 Fantasy Baseball BREAKING News Thread

I figure us CTGers can help each other out with breaking news to pick up guys just named new closer or phenoms getting the call up to the bigs. I always seem to be late to the punch on these things in most of my leagues.

Well, today I beat them to the punch in 3 of my leagues...

ADD Kyle Farnsworth, just named new closer for the Mets, replacing Jose Valverde.

If Carrasco gets shelled today, which would be routine, perhaps speculate on Trevor Bauer. Think he might be ready.

***** Needless to say things have not been going well late in games for the Oakland A’s, something that has been driving fantasy owners nuts the past couple weeks.

With that being said, former closer Jim Johnson, who lost his job early in the season, needs to be restored as the A’s closer as soon as possible.

If Johnson has already been dropped in your leagues, I recommend grabbing him now and stashing him for a few days until Oakland manager Bob Melvin officially gives Johnson the job back.

The signs are encouraging.

While the A’s have entered the ninth inning with a lead to protect each of the last two nights, the A’s left the ninth inning without the lead on both occasions.

Sean Doolittle and Luke Gregerson were each responsible for blown saves on Tuesday and Wednesday.

None of those guys have been given much rope, they probably pulled the cord on Johnson a little early. Cook's still in the mix too. Think it might be a committee for a while, until someone nails it down. Or maybe they'll just not designate a closer this year, which I think might be their best option. Would love to see a winning team try it.

Yeah, I need saves in a few of my leagues, so, getting Farnsworth was nice today. Hopefully he pans out and keeps the job.

I added Farnsworth in CTG-1 this morning. I have almost zero confidence in his rag arm holding the job.

Tito said Tribe is now closer by committee, which is probably manager-speak for Cody Allen's the new closer.

I'm going to speculate on Pomeranz in a few leagues. Good pedigree, great park, young enough.

Also found room for Aviles in a couple leagues. Going to be tough to get him out of the line-up even after Kipnis gets back. Not sure why he wasn't an every day guy to begin with, great down the stretch last year after they pulled the plug on Chisenhall, all guy does is play well. And he's a fantasy stat sheet stuffer when he plays regularly. And multi-position eligible.
