'Tis the Season... :tiphat:

Hola, amigos. Sorry for the 2 month absence during college footsies, but going thru some major life changes so I stepped away. (Will explain later/elsewhere.) Of course it didn't hurt that I wasn't enjoying a profitable CFB season at the time, lol. I'm superstitious though...so when things improved for me late October, as I relied a bit less on my PR #s and so forth, things really turned around for the season...at least up until mid/late November. Anyhow, that's neither here nor there as it was un-posted (short of a couple FB &/or Twitter references). In any case, it is what it is...and it's now the past. Bowl Season is here...38 games of awesomeness (plus a championship game) to close out the year, and begin a new one!

All plays will get copied below into this 1st post, and everything will be discussed in subsequent posts...at least up until 1/2/15, which is when I'll have to step away again as I relocate from SoCal.

tbh, i think my #s nailed the top four. the problem is that the current Big 12 is a flawed conference, and didn't have a championship game. add to that the perception/belief that an undefeated FSU team couldn't be left out of the final four, and you have the situation that screwed TCU.
and you know what, i'm totally ok with that...at least for this year. i just hope that the powers that be are open to tweaking things, improving them as we go...learning from the past, and adjusting for the future. gotta keep adapting...and keep building super conferences...to avoid this very thing.

Look forward to this thread every year...was getting worried it would not show up.:Godfather:

Good luck Yanks. Got your texts and intend to respond soon. So busy being unemployed I haven't found time.

lol, i hear ya.
after the bowls are done, there's gonna be a shitload to do to prepare for the fantasy bases leagues...plus we'll need one replacement.

Look forward to this thread every year...was getting worried it would not show up.:Godfather:

ha...good to hear from ya, bones. death, taxes, and bowl games brotha... :shake:

other than Sagarin & Steele, links to the other two SOS #s that I utilize this time of year...

http://www.gberatings.com/sos/
http://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/ranking/schedule-strength-by-other

teamrankings is also a good source for stats, like ypp...
http://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/stat/yards-per-play

as is the ncaa site itself for whatever you like to use/look at...
http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/24

gotta love the internet, and researching...

anyhow, will see if one of these SOS rankings will paste below too...since it's of value, especially when there are large discrepancies in certain bowls match-ups.

bowl-related coaching changes, to date:

Wisconsin = Anderson left to Oregon St, lol...and AD Barry Alvarez will coach the game.
Nebraska = Pelini's gone...in comes Mike Riley from Oregon St...but assistants will coach the game.
Houston = Levine's gone...the DC will coach the game.
Colorado St = McElwain left to Florida...an interim will coach the game.
Florida = Muschamp's gone...in comes McElwain from Colly St...but assistants will coach the game.
Pittsburgh = (assuming this) Chryst left to Wisconsin...an assistant will coach the game.
Baylor = OC is gone to Tulsa.
Auburn = got Muschamp as their new DC.

fluid situations, but will try to track.

to be filed under "the fwiw category," these are the lines my PR #s assigned to all of the bowl games. (note: i gave a flat 3 pt HFA to some teams like ULL, S Alabama, SDST, UCF, Stanford, Arizona, and Baylor. debatable for one or two, i guess.) anyhow...

Nevada -1/2 vs ULL
Utah St -9.5 vs UTEP
Utah -3 vs Colorado St
Air Force -1 vs WMU
S Alabama -3.5 vs BG
Memphis -1.5 vs BYU
Marshall -8 vs N Illinios
SDST -1 vs Navy
WKU -5 vs CMU
Fresno St -1.5 vs Rice
La Tech -6.5 vs Illinois
UNC -2.5 vs Rutgers
UCF -7 vs NCST
Cincinnati -3 vs Va Tech
Arizona St -7.5 vs Duke
S Carolina -1/2 vs Miami
BC -3 vs Penn St
USC -5 vs Nebraska
WVU -1/2 vs Texas A&M
Oklahoma -3 vs Clemson
Arkansas -7.5 vs Texas
LSU -10 vs Notre Dame
Georgia -9.5 vs Louisville
Stanford -15.5 vs Maryland
TCU -4 vs Ole Miss
Arizona -4 vs Boise St
Mississippi St -4 vs GTech
Auburn -3 vs Wisconsin
Baylor -3.5 vs Michigan St
Missouri -5.5 vs Minnesota
Oregon -7.5 vs FSU
Alabama -1.5 vs Ohio St
Pitt -2.5 vs Houston
Tennessee -2.5 vs Iowa
Kansas St -3 vs UCLA
Washington -5.5 vs Okie Lite
Florida -7 vs ECU
Toledo -3 vs Arky St

first of all, damn near across the board, there's not much line value to be found between my PR #s and the current lines. and secondly, just to clarify, i won't be making plays based upon my PR #s. it's a ton of freakin' work involved, but i'm only using them as a guide...one of many, in fact. but i still like to track how well they perform though...

texas is the one play I know I like, Do you like anything there?

sorry, kyle...i haven't dug into that match-up yet. i should probably give tejas a bit for "home field" in my line above though...even if it is in houston.
anyhow, i had this game penciled in as an under play going in...but when it opened in the mid 40s (versus low 50s, as i had hoped), i simply moved on.
will try to get to it soon. it's actually a pretty interesting game for a couple of 6-6 teams that both played tough schedules. watch me come back to the under, lol.
what's got you solidly on tejas???

YANKS bol my brother

good to see ya, my brotha. :shake:

my 1st set of plays this bowl season...

Utah (-4) for 1
BYU (+1) for 1
VaTech (+3) @ -105 for 1
Arizona St (-7) @ -115 for 1
Duke/ASU over 66.5 for 1
USC (-6) @ -115 for 1
Arizona (-3) @ -105 for 1
Auburn (-6) for 1

will try to get to all of the above, if possible...at least a little bit. :tiphat:

USC (-6) @ -115 for 1

Auburn (-6) for 1

a little bit on a couple of these plays. too many to write up, so a quick 2 cents only.

Utah (-4)
Colly St is a dangerous team, mainly passing the ball. But they lost to Air Force at the end, changing their season...and then lost their HC to Florida. That's gotta sting. In any case, it brings both coaching and motivation into play...neither of which is a doubt (imo) with Utah. Colly St's pass attack is obviously a concern, but hopefully Utah being #1 in team sacks this season will have a say in the matter. And on the flip side, the Utes should be able to run at will here. Last, but not least...Utah has a significant SOS advantage over Colly St...#26 to #94 per Sagarin, #30 to #106 per GBE, and #20 to #79 per TR...which definitely put the game/play on my radar.

USC (-6)
Nebraska lost games down the stretch to take them outta the Big 10 title game, and then got rid of Pelini. So HC advantage to USC, talent/athlete advantage to USC, SOS advantage (#29 to #61 per Sagarin) to USC, big time QB advantage to USC, and so forth. Nebby can run the ball...but so long as there's no BC repeat, the Trojans run defense should keep that in relative check. Common opponent in Fresno, fwiw...but this comes down to teams heading in opposite directions. It'll take time for Riley to change/build Nebraska, where USC is primed for a big 2015.

anyhow, that should kinda let you know where i'm coming from...even if only talking about two of the eight plays so far. making assumptions on motivation at times...but coaching, strength of schedules, any common opponents, and specific (unit) match ups are much of my focus.

my 2nd set of plays this bowl season...

Nevada (+1) @ -105 for .6
Air Force ML (-120) for .6
WMU/AF over 56.5 @ -105 for .6
NIU/Marshall over 65 @ -105 for 1

Penn St (+3) @ -120 for .6

WVU/A&M over 67 @ -105 for 1
Michigan St (+3) for 1

i've capped 20 of 38 bowls, but have played 14 so far...a couple twice. :tiphat:

hate to go against ULL's 3 game streak in this bowl, in their home state no less...but Nevada's the better team.

hate to back a PSU team that lost 6 of it's last 8 games this season...but in a defensive battle in the Bronx, i gotta believe they'll be motivated returning from exile.

anyhow, much more behind all the plays...just not the time or energy to do more with them here/at this hour.

my 3rd set of plays this bowl season...

Utah St (-4) to UTEP/Utah St un52 for .6
S Alabama (-3) for 1/2
CMU/WKU over 66 @ -105 for .6
Fresno St (+2) @ +100 for 1/2
Illinois (+12) to Illinois/LaTech ov53 for .6
UNC (-3) for 1/2
NCST (+2) @ +100 for 1/2
S Carolina (+4) @ -105 for .6

smaller action plays to hit the remaining bowls thru 12/27. i've got 10 bowl match-ups left to cap, but 16 bowls left to play...though i might be adding to some previous plays.

should've teased the Utah St under before whoever hit it earlier today. and hopefully the 1st time will be the charm with south bama.

anyhow, it's getting harder to have something on each & every bowl game...thus all the action plays...but thankfully the worst is over...well, at least until i get to Pitt/Houston and Toledo/Arky St.

This thread is ON FIRE. Good to see ya back. And great info as always.

Hope it's a good thing that I'm leaning almost entirely the same way as you are

GL on the bowls, like several. We are in the vast minority on nevada

hopefully being in the same bowl for 4 straight years will leave ULL with a "been there, done that" attitude. either way, take away any home field adv, and i still say we got the better squad heading into this game.
:shake:

i'm sure it is. here's to a great bowl season, brother. :cheers3:

I know it's Bowl Season but we have a lot in common the YANKEES could be a long season but then again never count them out. At first the Hendley signing sounds a bit much but after doing the research it's IMO a good deal. Good luck with the Bowls:shake:

anyhow, i had this game penciled in as an under play going in...but when it opened in the mid 40s (versus low 50s, as i had hoped), i simply moved on.
will try to get to it soon. it's actually a pretty interesting game for a couple of 6-6 teams that both played tough schedules. watch me come back to the under, lol.
what's got you solidly on tejas???

good to see ya, my brotha. :shake:

It's a lot of factors. I like the matchup for the horns defense. When they match up against teams that are so run based they can really stifle them. Their defense was the best in the big12 this year imo. Strong has a really good history of getting teams ready for bowls and I like the fact that Texas basically started the season minus a bunch of players due to suspensions/kicked off team. They have more youth playing than they normally do and the team should really benefit from the extra time to prepare. Outside of the silly trick plays that usually backfire on BB, they are pretty easy to stop if you can stop their running attack. They power attack people and if they can do it over and over again ( texas tech ) then they are gonna rip ya a new one but if they can't ( most of the sec ) then they are just not a big threat to put up a bunch of points. The points should matter quite a bit

just curious how does sc end up ahead of our bruins in your PR's ?

i just plug in the numbers, brotha...otherwise, yes, our bruins would definitely be ranked above 'em.

thanks, Paulie...you too. :shake:
unfortunately, the yanks need a few down years to properly rebuild...like the early 90s.

thanks for that, VK. appreciate it. who knows...maybe i'll add a small play...but as predicted, i did come back to the under here.

my 4th set of plays this bowl season...

Clemson/Oklahoma under 53 @ -105 for 1
Texas/Arkansas under 46 @ -105 for 1
LSU (-7) for 1
Georgia (-6.5) for 1
Stanford (-7) to Maryland/Stan un55 for 1.2
Miss St (-.5) to GT/Miss St ov54.5 for 1.2
ULL 1H TT over 14.5 @ -120 for 1/2
WKU (-3) for 1/2

should bring it to 32 plays involving 28 bowls to date. still have 6 January bowls left to cap, and 10 bowls left to play one way or another.
:tiphat:

i still believe in the Nevada side tomorrow. however, after further thought, i don't like the start time. the body clock of the Nevada players at kickoff could still be 8am. so rather than add the game total going over, which was what i was looking to do considering these defenses, i added this 1st half team total going over for ULL instead. in any case, i'm hoping/expecting to hit both plays.

also added a couple unders that i really like. see VK's post above about the Tejas defense matching up with Arkansas. the other side of the equation is that the Horns aren't gonna light anything up either. and then there's clemson...a very solid defense...but w/out Watson, i can't play them...and scoring for either side should come at a very high premium, as a result.

anyhow, we're finally here...games begin tomorrow! and considering how much of my accts are now tied up in these bowls, lol, it's about freakin' time!

Hope you have a great Bowl season, Yanks..BOL bro.

thanks, play...you too, brotha. :cheers3:

The tease on Stanford is really the only way to play that game. Been searching for a partner.

i hear ya...14 is a TON of points, and Maryland will show up imo. :shake:

that said, in '13, the spread only came into play in 4 of 35 bowl games (i think). typically, they say the SU winner is all you have to worry about. but somewhere i know that i saw a stat that said double digit bowl favs were exactly 10-10 ATS over whatever recent time period was being looked at/used.

Utah and Air Force lines... :enraged:

The risk of playing things early. Is what it is though...win some, lose some. That said, I really don't like that reverse mvmt for Colly St. :(

Ya that Utah line is weird. Everything tells me to take Utah. Wittingham is money in the bowls and Colorado st can't be too jacked with the coach and all

sorry, guys...haven't been around since before the bowls kicked off. busy with the family, and Christmas. anyhow, that's why i played so much early...knowing i'd be away.

11-11 so far. definitely not what i was expecting. but that said, there were only 3 or 4 plays that shit the bed to date...nevada, fresno, and unc for sure. the other 7 or 8 losses i'd pretty much play the same way, even in hindsight. not going to complain about specifics...just saying that i feel that i capped the games correctly, and would play them the same way tomorrow if possible...from usc to asu to byu to sdst to wku, and so forth. but that's why they play the games...shit happens...especially in coin flip/tight match-ups.

back with some more additions i played earlier in a minute or two.

my next set of plays this bowl season...

Ole Miss (+3.5) for 1/2
Mizzou (-4) @ -120 for 1/2
FSU (+9) @ -105 for 1
Ohio St (+9) @ -105 for 1

4 bowls left to cap, 6 left to play...plus the championship game, of course.
:tiphat:

nice day bowling with the totals. but what feels good is to finally have a bit of luck on my side (in terms of the last two unders). was long overdue, after quite a few tough beats.
anyhow, how are you guys feeling about these 12/30 bowls...specifically, the belk? tbh, i'm wavering a bit...watching the line...and over-thinking the game.

Yanks. this is one of the best threads posted here. Good Luck and Happy New Year!

Good luck today Yanks! Personally, I think all 3 favorites will crush today. We'll see.:cheers3:

the battle of teams w/out a leader. match up should favor houston, but that's such a pussy SOS that i took a flyer the other way.
speaking of SOS, i went against it with iowa over tenny. wouldn't have done that had worley been in the game for the vols.
love the over in the alamo, but the side is strictly a homer play. push me, and i'll admit that kansas st is prolly the side to back here.
going against SOS again. UW's improved defensively, and like petersen in the bowls. similarly, i wouldn't be doing this if okie lite wasn't missing weapons...like walsh.
