  • The life and times of Carson Wentz in the NFL: After throwing one pick through Indy's first 7 games, Wentz threw two in the final eight minutes last Sunday vs TEN. With it, Philly fans were quickly reminded why Wentz was given the boot by the Eagles when he threw a brain-fart pick in overtime to set up the Titans with an easy chip-shot field goal to put the hammer down on the Colts. It was an hard loss given the fact that Indy had taken a 14-0 lead to start the game. Also dificult, but in a different way, was a blown call by the refs in the Bengals-Jets game – one of the worst calls on a helmet-to-helmet hit that you’ll ever see – when CB Mike Hilton was flagged for unnecessary roughness on a short gain on 3rd-and-11 by RB Ty Johnson with two minutes left. It allowed the Jets to retain possession and run out the clock, essentially ending Cincy’s chances of making a last-second comeback. Thus, the AFC now has no less than 11 teams with a .500 or greater record through Week 8, including the entire West and North divisions. While the Jets’ win was hard to fathom, in his first NFL start, Jets backup Mike White outplayed the sizzling Joe Burrow, throwing for 405 yards and 3 TDs on a remarkable 37-of-45 passing. Which begs the question: Where has he been all these years? And even more: Why on earth did they trade for Joe Flacco(Who may or may not be available tonight), the human statute, this week? I may as well mention that the Flyboys’ euphoria may be short-lived, as they arrive in Nap Town with an 0-3 ATS mark in Thursday action, and a 1-7 SU & ATS when coming off a win as a 7-point or larger dog. The Colts counter with a 14-4-1 ATS effort on Thursdays, and a near-perfect 5-0-1 ATS mark after tangling with the Titans. Look for order to be restored this evening. Like the Colts here but not really anxious to lay DD tonight...personally I will side with the over as neither teams D is top flight and the will be lots of air action from the fly boys.

a year makes as Dallas hold a 3.5 game lead in the NFC East, also the only undefeated team vs spread (7-0 ATS) this year. A year ago at this time, McCarthy’s troops were 2-6 SU and 0-8 ATS. How bout backup QB Cooper Rush, who played good in relief of Dak (sat out with a wobbly ankle) in the Boys’ 20-16 win @Minny. Rush began slowly with several mistakes, but then settled in and played very well in the 2H, finishing 24-of-40 for 325 yards, 2 TDs, and a pick. Meanwhile, QB Bridgewater wasn’t great in Denver’s plodding 17-10 win over WAS, but he was efficient, going 19-of-26 for 213 yards and a TD with no mistakes (that’s Bridgewater’s mantra). For what it’s worth, the most lucrative situation in the NFL this year has been that of road dogs coming off a win of 6 or more points. These dogs are 12-6 SU and 15-3 ATS! Sure, the resurgent Cowboys are 3-0 ATS at home this year, but they’re still only 3-10 ATS as non-division home favs of 10 or less. Will Dak be back or will Rush be asked to save the day again? I'm ambivalent since I'm backing this Broncos team that’s gone 5-0 ATS as non-div road dogs of 5 or more. Time to lean on Teddy, with his amazing 10-0 ATS versus winning opponents.
  • It will be sunny in the low 60's in Cincy today and following a surprising home loss vs rival PIT where they were held to just 10 points and 306 yds in a 5 point loss, Cincy now entertains the Browns and should be sky high for this game. The Browns have wins in 5 of L6 vs CIN including a 37-34 (-3’) win here LY (Game winning 24-yd TD pass w/:11 left). With CLE still nursing some injuries on both sides of the ball and failing to cover 9 straight vs AFC North coming in, I'm thinking Cincy should get the job done here today prior to their bye. They are 6-2 ATS(5-5 SU) in L10 vs CLE. Of note: Over is 8-0 for CIN after allowing over 500 yards since 1992 and 61-34 under the total when playing a QB who completes 61% or more of his passes. CLE also trends under vs teams with poor pass defenses allowing 61% or greater completions.

Decent day yesterday was actually 8-6 as one loss was CAR who I bought out double the other way with Pats. Now at 52.5% wins on the year and basically dead even on money. Been pretty hot last 2-3 weeks digging out of a hole, so lets hope this upward trend continues. I hate laying chalk on Monday night but there's just no way I can back da bears. I did buy ½ point as I could easily see this as a 7 point game, say 20-13 to 24-17. I think the total is really sharp and would lean to under but 39 is a bit low for my liking there. Will monitor movement as well as 1H number approaching kickoff.

Should be great football weather in the steel city tonight, mostly Clear, low 50's with a light breeze - After upsetting of the Browns a week ago on the road where they finished with a 370-306 yardage edge in a 15-10 victory, PIT returns home to face a CHI team that suffered an 11 pt los vs SF a week ago despite a solid day from rookie QB Justin Fields (175 pass, 103 rush, 2 TD’s). The Bears have picked up 3 consecutive SU/ATS wins over the Steelers including the last 23-17 OT victory in ‘17. While CHI is 3-7 ATS as a non-DIV road dog, also keep in mind that PIT has failed to cover 5 of their L/6 as a HF. CHI 0-7 ATS away after home loss L3 years. Bears also 3-14 ATS after allowing avg 7+ yards per play and that doesn't happen very often, going all the way back to early 90's to get 17 game sample. It shows how this current Bear D is really heading off the cliff. Despite PIT's offensive troubles, I can see them getting enough vs this CHI squad. 23-13..ish This was one I wish I would have got at opening price....
