Goodbye to Romance College Football
Noon kicks:

Penn State missed scoring opportunities while Michigan D continually pressured Clifford. PSU was at or inside of the M25 5x and came away with just 2 FGs and TD. Penn State drove to the M24 and M26 on their first two drives, but came away with just 3 points (one fake FG for FD and one fake FG fumble/SOD). Michigan opened with back-to-back 3-and-outs but got it going to lead 7-3 2nd Q. UM would be SOD at P38 and PSU added a FG, 7-6 HT. PSU had a 171-156 TY edge at HT. UM opened with a TD, 14-6, but then would punt from deep in their own territory 3 of the next 4 possessions. PSU punted twice from midfield and missed FG. PSU scored TD on drive that converted two 4th downs and got the 2pt conv to tie 14-14 mid 4th Q. McNamara was sacked/fumbled inside own 20 and PSU turned that into a FG to lead 17-14 under 6min to go. UM got a 47y catch and run TD to retake lead 21-17 with 3-1/2 min left. PSU couldn’t do anything and MU killed clock ending at P09. Michigan outgained them 361-332 (5.2-3.9) with a 144-109 RY edge (3.5-2.6). QB pressure was a big story as Clifford was sacked 7x and hurried on several other occasions (Hutchinson 3 sacks). Clifford 23-43-205-1-0, still had 16y net rushing after the sack yardage. McNamara 19-29-217-3-0 (no McCarthy). Haskins 31-156. Dotson was targeted 16x, caught 9-61.

Wisconsin and Northwestern each threw INTs into the EZ in the 1st H. NW had a nice opening drive going when they threw INT in EZ from the W10. After going 19p 82y on their opening drive, they would net negative 2 yards of O their 4 other 1st H drives. UW meanwhile punted to open, then scored 3 straight TDs before throwing their INT into EZ from the NW23. 21-0 HT. NW did drive to the W14 in the 2nd H, but missed a FG. NW threw INTs on 3 of their next 4 possessions. UW turned two of those INTs into short field TDs, then Badgers fumbled on back-to-back drives late, one NW returned 49y for TD. The game saw 7 total turnovers. UW outgained them 497-239 (7.2-4.0) with a 268-114 (6.1-3.4) RY edge.

Indiana fumbled on their first play of the game, a theme that would doom the Hoosiers. IU turned it over 3x in the first half leading to 10 points for Rutgers on short fields. RU led 17-0, 17-3 HT. IU didn’t cross midfield until their 5th and 6th drives of the 2nd H and RU would win 38-3 with just a 320-262 TY edge (4.6-3.5), Knights did rush for 218 (4.4) to IU’s 85 (2.7). IU converted just 1-of-14 3rd downs. Not a game featuring stellar QB play. McCulley 7-20-98-0-0. Tuttle played, 5-10-26-0-2 (leading rusher with just 16y). Vedral 9-17-97-0-0

Sloppy game in Waco. Baylor was SOD at O04, missed 51y FG and threw INT at O22. Oklahoma went 3-and-out, threw INT at own 37, also missed a 51y FG and a 40y FG. 7-7 HT. The 2nd H started with more of the same, Baylor FG, then OU INT, then Baylor fumble. OU however would have zero offense and Baylor scored back to back TDs to get up 24-7 late 4th Q. OU scored and Baylor tacked on a time expiring FG to win 27-14 which Aranda said was for conference tie breaking purposes. Baylor outgained them 414-260 (6.1-4.9) with a 297-78 (6.3-2.8) RY edge. OU was just 2-of-9 3rd down. Each team lost two turnovers a piece. Sooners went to the bullpen to replace a struggling Williams, but Rattler was sacked twice and only was in for 6 pass attempts. OU QBs were sacked 5x. Bohanon 12-21-117-1-1, 107y rushing w/ 2 TDs.

West Virginia turned it over early and often and they could never get back into the game. An INT on their second play led to a Kansas State TD, WVU then had a punt blk’d was recovered and returned for TD. WVU was SOD at the KS38 and missed a 47y FG. 17-3 HT. They traded some TDs, KSt missed FG. WV was SOD at own 40. It was 31-17 when WV fumbled at own 35 and KSt added FG with 2min left. WV threw INT at own 42 to finish off any hopes of cutting into the lead. WVU outgained them 345-299 (4.9-5.1), but were –3 turnovers plus the punt block.

Mississippi State completed their largest comeback in school history after trailing 28-3 in the 2nd Q, MSU reeled off 40 unanswered! Auburn scored TDs on 4 straight drives to start the game, then the O went cold. Miss State would then score TD at the end of the 1st H 5 straight TDs in the 2nd H to lead 43-28! Ironic that 3 missed FGs cost MSU last week, this week, Auburn missed 2 FGs. They did make it 43-34 late, but MSU recovered onside kick and their final possession with TJ Finley was sacked/fumbled. Yards were even 487-483 (6.5-6.9), Auburn only ran for 106 (3.9). TOP was huge for Miss State, they kept it for 20min in the 2nd H.

Samford scored 52 points on the Florida Gators, the most points an FCS team has ever scored on an SEC team. Samford led early and often throughout the 1st H. Samford led 42-35 HT. Florida was able to maintain a narrow 1-2 score margin as the 2nd H wore on.

Alabama led 49-3 HT and won 59-3.

Army led 42-0 HT. They scored TDs on 6 of their first 7 possessions. Led 49-0 when Bucknell scored TD, then Army fumbled and Bucknell got a free FG out of it. 49-10 3min to go in the 3rd Q. Army scored two more TDs in the 4th Q the final with 4min left to win 63-10. Bucknell did get out to midfield in the final minute but were sacked. Army outgained them 486-175 (7.5-3.4).

ECU had a 502-341 (4.9-6.4) TY edge, but had to escape with an OT win. ECU owned a 32-16 FD and 185-108 RY edges as well. They converted 18 of 26 3rd downs! ECU however only scored 2 TDs on 6 RZ trips and were sacked 6x all of which kept Memphis in the game. Memphis also got a short field TD after an INT in the 1st Q. In OT, ECU scored first, Memphis answered but choose to go for 2 and the win and failed.

UCF was in the game for a little while early, having leads of 7-0 and 14-7, then SMU put their foot on their neck. SMU scored 31 straight points to close the 1st H! 38-14 HT and 55-28 F! SMU outgained them 631-333 (6.7-5.1) with a 241-124 (6.7-4.4) RY edge and 36-15 FD advantage! SMU D 7 sacks!

Houston only led Temple 10-0 HT! They did miss a FG and were SOD at the T28. Only one of Temple’s 1st H drives crossed midfield and they missed a FG on it. UH asserted themselves in the 2nd H and won 37-8. Of note, Temple finished with 12 TFLs (3 sacks)! Griffin and Kwenkeu each had 3 TFLs for Temple. By comparison, UH’s normally dominant DL only registered 1 sack and TFL. UH outgained them 446-218 (5.5-4.5) including 217-99 RY (4.8-4.3).

UMass has lost to FCS schools in back-to-back weeks. Maine beat them 35-10 a week after Rhode Island beat them 35-22. Vs Maine, UMass actually led 10-0. Merriweather did rush 27-177 and was the leading receiver 3rec-24y.

UConn returned the opening KO 99 yards to the house, 7-0 Huskies Woo-hoo! Clemson scored the next 44 points and outgained them 476-99 (4.8-1.7) and held them to negative rushing yards (-17) – Clemson D 6 sacks. FDs were 26-6 and UConn failed to convert a single 3rd down on 14 att. Of note, Clemson was just 5-of-22 3rd downs but went for 4th down 6x and converted 5 of them. UConn has themselves a kick returner. Brian Brewton not only ret’d the opening KO 99 yards for TD, but late in the 4th Q he also returned another KO 76 yards to the CM12, but UConn could not score. UConn found themselves in Clemson territory a few times from this KO ret, turnovers or SOD situations, but they never gained a FD on any of those possessions let alone score. Clemson led 30-7 HT and only won 44-7. Clemson did fumble into the EZ in the 4th Q.

On the day that Louisville retired Lamar Jackson’s number, with Jackson in the house, the Cards whipped Syracuse just like old times scoring TDs on their first 4 possessions. It was 35-3 HT and 41-3 F. Could’ve been worse, but LV kicked two RZ FGs in the 2nd H. 382-184 TY (7.1-3.2). Cunningham 13-18-209-4-0, 19y rushing with TD. Schrader 10-18-46-0-0, sacked 4x. Syracuse did fumble at L07 and SOD at L35 in the 2nd H.

And Kansas beat Texas--in Austin--with a backup QB. Worst Texas losing streak in half a century. And Kansas made a blunder by going for it on fourth and one at their own 30 with two minutes left (and the attempt was more disorganized and dumb than a junior high team would run) to give Texas a chance to send it to overtime

Hey there, Texas and Oklahoma, hope you enjoy that move to the SEC.

How about Ohio state with 623 yards of offense and a excellent balance. They get the team total at half.

GA went on a 31-0 run before Joe Milton comes in and gets the unlikely td.

This is my mnc game right here.

2:00-3:00 kicks

Arizona got a, some might say, fluke win vs a depleted Cal team and Utah just steam rolled Stanford, surely Utah would crush Zona?. Utah went up 7-0 ,but UA would lead 14-7, then lead 17-14. Utah went up 21-17 at HT, but UA was able to keep it close throughout the 2nd H, Utah never led by more than 11 points and won 38-29 after scoring a late 4th Q TD for the final margin. Arizona stalled twice in the RZ having to kick FGs from the UT13 and UT04. Utah also had to settle for a RZ FG in the 3rd Q. Utah outgained them 468-329 (6.3-5.1) and outrushed them 174-102 (4.0-3.4). FDs and TOP were a big edge for Utah 26-16 and 34:26.

Georgia State got their first win vs a ranked opponent in program history. Coastal Carolina threw INT and was sacked/fumbled that gave Georgia State 14 points off just 9 yards of offense! Coastal outgained them 442-373 (6.1-5.7). Other than the turnovers, Georgia State’s D came up with some timely plays. They got two TFLs when CC was 1st-goal at the 1 forcing a 24y FG and they stopped a would-be game typing 2pt conversion at the end of the game. They also sacked Carpenter 4x.

Western Kentucky led 28-0 HT. Rice fumbled at WK03, SOD at WK45 and threw back-to-back INTs at own 31 and WK20 all in the 1st H. WKU squandered some opportunities as well, fumbling their opening drive at the R08 and then in the 2nd H fumbled at R30, threw INT at R07 and fumbled at own 37. WKU had 3 TDs off turnovers, but just 2 were off of short fields. Rice got 1 short field TD. WKU won 42-21 but only outgained them 588-504 (8.2-5.9).

App State won 31-7, but only outgained South Alabama 330-279 (5.2-3.9). USA was in the RZ 3 times and came away with ZERO points. App State actually lost 4 turnovers, only one led to USA points. USA lost 2 turnovers, one very costly and pivotal for betting perspectives...App State got a 100y pick-six for the cover with just 2-1/2 minutes left in the game.

Texas State did lead 7-3, but when Georgia Southern went up 10-7 they would never trail again and won 38-31. GSU even missed 3 FGs, but outgained them 395-354 (5.8-4.4) with a 162-78 (3.8-2.2) RY edge. Both GSU QBs Ransom and Tomlin passed for nearly identical stat lines, they combined for 14-25-233-2-1. Vitt again was the TxSt QB and he went 29-46-276-0-1.

3;30 kicks

Minnesota – Iowa was tight game. Iowa opened 3-0, 3-3, 10-3, 10-10, 10-13 Min with the lead, 17-13 Iowa back on top, 17-16, 24-16, 24-22, 27-22 F. Min had a 409-277 (4.9-5.7) TY edge, including 189-71 (3.8-2.8) RY. Min also had 23-12 FD and 40:20 TOP edges! But Gophers were in the RZ 3x and got 0 TDs and also had a FG blk’d. Key series at the end of the game, Iowa downed a punt at the M10 with just 3min left. Min was sacked and forced to go for a 4th-17 attempt from their own 3 yard line. They threw deep incomplete. Min killed some clock with QB just falling down on 1st and 2nd down, then tried running in on 3rd down, and kicked a 29y FG to go up by 5 :44 left. Min did get to the I39, but were incomplete and sacked to end the game.

Ohio State and Purdue were tied 7-7 before OSU scored 4 straght TDs. Was 45-17 HT. PU got as close as 52-31 before OSU added the final score early 4th Q, 59-31 F. OSU outgained them 624-481 (9.0-6.8) with 263-91 RY (8.5-4.8).

Georgia and Tennessee each scored TDs on their opening possessions. UGA went 3-and-out 2x and Vols kicked FG then went 3x once as well. UGA tied it 10-10, Vols O went away (two more 3-and-outs plus an INT), UGA then scored 2 TDs to close out the 1st H, the final one with just :37 left to lead 24-10 HT. Vols moved it to the G17, G40 and G27 out of the half, but were SOD twice and fumbled. UGA built a 41-10 lead before UT added a late TD. 41-17 F. UGA outgained them 487-387 (7.0-4.6) with a 274-55 RY edge (6.7-1.5). UGA D got 6 sacks.

Florida State shockingly went up 17-0 early on Miami. The Canes turned it over on 3 straight drives with one leading to a short field TD by FSU. Miami finally scored and FSU made two of three FGs for a 20-7 HT score. FSU fumbled in the 3rd Q and UM took that for TD on short field. Miami would actually score TDs on three straight possessions to take a 28-20 lead! After converting a 4th-1 earlier in the drive, FSU decided to kick a FG from the M11 on a 4th-3 with under 5min left to make it 28-23. Miami punted back with 2:19 left. FSU converted a 4th-14 for 24 yards to the M01 and scored 3 plays later with just :26 left. FSU outgained them 434-359 (5.9-5.1) and outrushed them 160-43 (3.3-1.9). FSU only converted 20% 3rd downs. Travis 18-26-274-0-0, 62y rushing w/ 2 TDs. Van Dyke 25-47-316-4-2.

Duke started backup QB Riley Leonard and then also played Jordan Moore. Virginia Tech led 17-3 HT and 27-10 end of the 3rd Q. VT got a big punt return to set up a short field TD, then added a 16y fumble ret TD just a minute later. They would trade TDs again for a 28 pt 4th Q. VT outgained them 573-343 (9.7-4.5) with a 297-196 (7.2-4.0) RY edge. 210 of Duke’s yards came on their final 5 drives of the 2nd H. Burmeister passed for just 9-15, but 215y with a 3-1 ratio and added 71y rushing.

Yates started at QB for GT. BC went up 7-0, but sparked by a KO ret TD, GT scored the next 3 TDs to lead 21-7. BC would then score 3 straight TDs to lead 28-21 HT. They traded FGs into the early part of the 4th Q. 31-24. They they traded TDs 38-30 late 4th Q. GT was sacked/fumbled with 1:26 left at own 18 and BC added a FG with :25 left for 41-30 F. BC outgained them 505-343 (8.7-5.0). GT had a 213-195 RY edge (5.3-5.1). Teams combined for just 5 TDs on 9 RZ trips. BC D got 3 sacks. Jurkovec 13-20-310-2-0.

Texas Tech scored TDs on 4 of their first 5 possessions the one they didn’t was an INT that allowed Iowa State to score a TD off a 2p 16y “drive”. TT led 28-7 and 31-14 HT. ISU stormed back to make it 31-28 while TT was SOD twice in ISU territory, but TT responded, 38-28. ISU scored, then forced a punt and tied the game 38-38 1min to go! TT QB Smith completed all 4 passes, the only incompletion was a spike and TT lined up for a 62y FG which was good as time expired. TT outgained them 529-445 (7.9-6.6) and surprisingly outrushed them 207-89 (6.1-3.6).

Marshall had no offense early vs UAB. Herd went 3-and-out 3 of 4 to start the game while UAB drove 81 and 99 yards in the 1st Q to lead 14-0. MU D stepped up and the O finally got on the board to make it 14-7 HT. MU tied 14-14 late 3rd Q, but UAB came right back down to retake a 21-14 lead. UAB was pinned at their own 6 yard line to start the 4th Q and they’d go on a 16p 42y 10min drive where they converted 4 3rd downs before ultimately having to punt. After killing nearly all the 4th Q, MU only had one chance left and they threw INT at the AB41 to end the game. Neither team could run the ball, UAB just 1.9 ypc to MU’s 1.8 ypc. UAB outgained them 338-269 (5.2-4.5). MU converted just 1 of 12 3rd downs while UAB converted over 50% of theirs.

Louisiana Tech was outgained by Charlotte by 40 yards, but won 42-32. Charlotte played from behind all game. They threw INT at the LT14 and were SOD at the LT01 which really hurt their chances because their D couldn’t stop Louisiana Tech. LT scored TDs on 6 of their first 8 possessions with the others being a missed FG and an INT. Charlotte kicked FG from the L09 and were SOD at the L34 and ended game at L38 for a lot of empty yards and not many points. Charlotte outgained them 548-504 (7.8-7.3). LT was 70% on 3rd down.

Old Dominion football led 4-3 at one point! This crazy game saw ODU fumble on 2 of their first 3 possessions, one of which led to a 4y “drive” for an FAU FG, then ODU got a sack for safety and then FAU was called for intentional grounding for the next one. ODU slowly built a 14-3 lead, but FAU got as close as 20-16, but ODU blk’d the xpt and ran it back for 2pts...22-16...then ODU capped the scoring with a TD and a 4th 2pt score of the game 30-16. ODU outgained them 447-308 (6.0-5.6) with a 37:23 TOP edge (ODU ran 75 plays to FAU;s 55). The teams combined to convert just 7-of-24 3rd downs.

MTSU had their way with FIU, they led 34-3 HT and won 50-10. MTSU had a 414-155 (5.7-2.9) TY and 261-67 RY (5.6-2.1). MTSU did convert just 3-of-13 3rd downs, but were 4-for-4 4th down and their D got 5 sacks and was +4 turnovers. A week after throwing 5 INTs, Tr Fr QB Vattiato was 20-24-147-2-0.

Southern Miss started RB Frank Gore Jr at QB vs UTSA. USM’s goal was to control TOP, shorten the game and run run run. It worked in the 1st H. They had a 21:30 to 8:30 TOP edge (11 to 4 minute 1st Q) and was tied 10-10 HT. USM’s TD was set up off a 63y KO return after UTSA went up 3-0. Gore actually attempted 3 passes in the 1st H and completed 2 of them. UTSA looked in trouble when USM got a pick-six to open the 3rd Q. UTSA was able to tie at the end of the 3rd Q. USM was forced to bring more of a QB, but all their normal ones were injured, so it was WR Willis playing QB. That didn’t go well. UTSA went up 20-17 on a short field following a fumble recovery then USM fumbled again, this one at their own 9 which UTSA converted into a TD to lead 27-17. Willis committed his 3rd turnover, an INT that was ret’d down to the 10, but UTSA took knees at the SM02. UTSA outgained them 370-189 (6.6-3.5) and slightly outrushed them 143-137 (5.5-2.9). USM converted just 1-of-11 3rd down.

Michigan State won by 19, but only outgained Maryland 481-451 (6.4-6.2). Trouble looks like Mary was in the RZ 3x and got just 1 TD (INT and missed FG after sack from the MS05), while MSU was there 4x and scored 4 TDs. Mary had another drive SOD at the MS24. Mary was also bad on 3rd down 3-of-13 compared to MSU’s 8-of-13. Thorne 22-31-287-4-1, Walker 30-154-2TD, 2rec 29y. Reed 8rec-114-2TD. Lia 29-48-350-2-1, 16y net rushing after 4 sacks. Okonkwo and Jarrett combined for 18rec and 217y.

Missouri appears to have beaten South Carolina worse than the 31-28 final. UM outgained them 438-250 (6.3-3.8) and outrushed them 258-57 (5.6-1.6)! Each team lost 3 turnovers, two INTs were on back-to-back series so those wash. Mizz got a fumble recovery in EZ for TD and SC got a 3p 14y series after an INT for TD so those tend to wash as well. The other two fumbles each occurred around the opponents 20 yard line. Mizzou led 31-14 in the 4th Q before SC scored the games final 14 points. Badie ran for 34-209-TD and was leading receiver 5rec-22y. Blazelak returned and went 15-23-180-2-2
.

Tulsa beat Tulane in OT, but it was a crazy final minutes and highly improbable it went to OT. Kind of like last year’s game, just different. This year Tulane trailed by 10 at their own 5 with under 4min left! Tulane hit two huge pass plays for TD and then recovered the onside kick and they got down to first and goal but had to settle for tying FG. Tulsa had the ball with a little over a minute to go and they threw an INT which Tulane ret’d deep into Tulsa territory, but the would-be winning FG was missed and they went to OT. Tulsa scored and Tulane didn’t. 20-13 F. Tulane outgained them 382-308 (5.0-4.9) and while Tulsa outrushed them the ypc were the same at 4.1. Tulane converted only 1-of-14 3rd downs (and 0-2 4th down), but Tulsa was –4 turnovers! None of those turnovers cost them any points, but it nearly cost them the game at the end of regulation. Teams were awful in the RZ combining for just 1-of-6 TDs with Tulane getting none on 3 trips. Tulane punted 3-and-out 6x.

A week after snapping a 14 game losing streak, UNLV won their first home game under HC Arroyo. UNLV really dominated Hawaii. After UH scored on a 79y TD pass first play of the game, UH would gain just 161 TY the rest of the game while UNLV racked up 465 (6.3) including 293 RY (6.0) behind Chuck Wagon’s school record 38 carries. Each team threw 2 INTs. UNLV settled for two RZ FGs or the margin would’ve been larger than the 27-13 F.

UTEP and North Texas struggled offensively in the 1st H. UTEP was SOD at the NT18 after a long drive, but then hit a 76y TD pass. NT made and missed a FG for the 7-3 HT score. NT took a 10-7 lead, then after a UTEP INT near midfield, NT went down to make it 17-7 mid 3rd Q. NT was SOD at the UTEP 2 yard line with 7min left in the game. UTEP went 7p 98y for TD and then forced a punt and UTEP was able to tie on a 37y FG with just :49 left! The game appeared heading for OT, but NT hit a deep pass that went over the UTEP secondary heads on 3rd down for 58y and NT was at the UTEP 10 looking to win the game which they did with :07 on the clock! NT outgained them 423-382 (5.2-6.2). Each team was about 50% or worse pass completions and each team rushed for about 3.5 ypc. NT did convert 7-of-20 3rd downs and 3-of-4 4th downs and got 3 sacks.

5:00 - 7:30 part 1

Arkansas State had some defense in their game at ULM! They forced ULM to punt 5 straight, got an INT and then another punt! Ark St D also got 6 sacks and 14 total TFLs! Each team threw 2 INTs but there were not impactful in terms of leading to points. ASU led 10-0, then 10-7 HT. ULM did take a 14-10 lead and then 21-10 lead in the 3rd Q. After 24-17 ULM would punt on their next 4 possessions gaining just 40y on those. ASU was able to tie 24-24 mid 4th Q and kicked the go-ahead 42y FG with 1:17. ULM got to the A44 with 1min left but threw INT down at the A08. ASU outgained them 538-372 (6.5-5.0). ASU’s Hatcher passed for 34-50-444-2-2. ULM QBs combined 16-35-195-1-2.

Oregon State’s four 1st H drives led to 2 TDs and a missed FG. Stanford gained just 25y on their first three then also missed a FG. 14-0 HT. Oregon State got a 67y TD pas to open the 3rd Q. Stanford was able to score TD, but OSU scored two more, one on a short field following fumble recovery to lead 35-7. Stanford closed the scoring mid 4th Q with a TD for a 35-14 F. OSU more than doubled them in yards 475-230 (6.2-4.7) and outrushed them 218-136 (4.3-5.0). Beavers were an outstanding 10-of-15 3rd down (Stan 36%). New QB Ari Patu started for Stanford as expected, he was only 7-14-51-1-1. First Tr Fr Stanford QB to start since like 1980. Air Force transfer QB Isaiah Sanders led the team in rushing with just 37y.

Ole Miss had a commanding 408-91 TY edge at HT yet led just 15-0! OM kicked two FGs from the RZ and were SOD on another RZ trip and also fumbled at the AM31. OM D did get a safety after Rebel O was SOD at the AM02 ,but as expected all those missed scoring opporunities came back to bite them. OM O could not stay hot, stalled out and AM got going after HT. It was just 15-13 in the 4th and AM had the ball, but threw an INT from own 14 which allowed OM to stop momentum and regain control scoring a TD to lead 22-13 then OM got a 52y pick-six...29-13. AM scored to make it 29-19 but the onside kick went OOB. AM got the ball back with 1:24 but were sacked at own 20 on 4th down. OM finished with 504-378 TY edge (5.4-5.4). AM outgained them 287-96 in the 2nd H. OM rushed for 257 to AM’s 141 (4.6-4.9). AM was a little better on 3rd down, but they combined for just 9-of-29 3rd downs (OM 1-of-3 4th down). AM D had 10 TFLs.

Kentucky scored on their first 4 drives of the game, 3 TDs and a FG from the V07. They would only have 5 possessions the rest of the game and manage one FG the rest of the way and ended the game taking knees at the V18. Vandy only crossed midfield once on their first possessions and got a FG out of it. After UK punted to open the 2nd H, VU went down for TD and went for 2....31-11. UK kicked their second FG from the RZ early 4th Q 34-11, VU went down for their second TD in a row (2pt no good this time)...34-17. Late 4th VU was SOD 4th-2 at own 36, but UK picked up a FD and then killed the clock. UK finished with 413-266 (7.1-4.5) with a 236-96 (6.6-3.2) RY. 1st H yards were 289-85.

Arkansas kicked 48y FG to lead 3-0, but Hogs punted on their next 6 possessions. LSU benefited from field position with Ark punting so much from deep in their own end. LSU went 9p 28y and 3p 40y to lead 10-3 HT. LSU also fumbled at A30. Offenses moved it better in the 3rd, Ark SOD near midfield, LSU missed FG. Ark 5p 63y TD, LSU threw INT. Ark 9p 53y FG to lead 13-10! Ark would gain just 11y on their final 3 drives. LSU tied on a 12p 48y drive and LSU was able to move the ball at the end of regulation, 73y on final two drives, but could not get into scoring range. It went to OT. LSU threw INT in the EZ from the A08 top of first OT and Ark kicked 37y FG to win 16-13. LSU outgained them 308-283 (3.9-4.3). Ark had 141-108 (3.5-2.6) RY edge. LSU had 20 FDs and was better on 3rd down 33% with Ark having just 13 FDs and struggling more to sustain drives just 3-of-16 3rd down. Johnson started, but Nussmeier played most of the game going 18-31-179-1-2.

Last week Washington jumped out to a 9-3 1st Q lead over Oregon and eventually lost 26-16. This week Washington jumped out to 14-0 1st Q lead, but the end result was still the same, a loss to Arizona State. After dual 8p 60y and 8p 67y TD drives, UW O punted on their next 3 drives and gained just 21y on those. It took ASU a while to get much going. They were SOD on their third drive at the W04 (sacked from the W02). ASU did go back down to make it 14-7 with just :37 left then UW got a good KO ret and set them up for a 37y FG and 17-7 HT lead. ASU again struggled on O to start the 2nd H, but UW mistakes and Sun Devil D helped them out. UW botched a QB-RB pitch and ASU scooped up the fumble and ran it down to the W09 and two plays later it was 17-14. ASU couldn’t sustain the momentum, throwing an INT on their next possession at the W18. UW started at the A46 after that and with 9 straight runs went down field to go back up by 10 as the 3rd Q expired. ASU had a 47y TD run taken away by penalty and creating a 3rd-16, but ASU converted with a 18y pass and would continue on for what would be a 20p 81y TD drive that ate 9min to cut into the lead. 24-21 under 6min left. UW went 3-and-out, ASU converted 4th-1 again as they did on their last TD drive and Devils would take 28-24 lead 1:11 to go! ASU then got a 37y pick-six to lead 35-24! Two unsportsman like conduct penalties set UW up at midfield with :26 left. 3 plays later UW was in the EZ (2pt no good) for a TD with just :03 left. 35-30. UW recovered the onside kick with :01 (slow clock can’t believe it didn’t run out), but they threw short and it was incomplete. 2 TDs in final minute, 27 point 4th Q. ASU outgained them 376-266 (5.2-4.2) with a 286-95 (5.0-3.2) RY edge. ASU was hit with 9 penalties for 94y. UW was called for 1-3y. Both teams struggled on 3rd down (combined 9-of-24) but ASU was 2-of-3 on 4th down, both conversions occurring on their 2nd H TD drives. UW D did get 4 sacks. Huard played a little attempting 5 passes.

7:00 - 7:30 part 2

Air Force led 14-0 early and Colorado State would never get closer than 7 points. AF went 5p 77y and 8p 42y on their first two drives, CSU went 3-and-out punt twice and INT once gaining just 18y on their first 3 possessions. They played even after that! AF outgained them 509-308 (6.4-5.2) with a 388-135 (5.6-3.6) RY edge.

Fresno led 24-0 HT and won 34-7 with a 397-196 (5.6-4.3) TY edge. Fresno got 23 FDs to NM’s 7! Fresno scored 5 straight drives in the middle of the game and shut it down in the 4th Q. Haener 24-31-300-3-0.

Brennan Armstrong (#2 ncaa passing ypg) DNP vs Notre Dame and UVA had no offense without him. ND outgained UVA 151 – 9 in the 1st Q (23 plays to 6) and for the half outgained them 264-92 and led 21-0 (ND SOD 1st drive of game at V21). UVA missed FG to start the 3rd Q, then later made one, but ND would score just one TD in the 2nd H with a fumble at the V08 and SOD at the V36. TY were 423-278 (6.8-4.3). ND ran for 249 (6.6) to UVA’s 82 (2.7). Irish D got 7 sacks

Wake Forest – North Carolina State had a lot of crazy action. NCSt outgained them 482-406 (6.3-4.5). NCSt was only 2-of-4 TDs in the RZ ,while WF was 5-for-5. NCSt did have two huge KO returns, one for TD. WF got a 5y “drive” for TD after a fumble. There were 6 turnovers in the game, but that was the only real consequential one. Game was just 7-6 WF end of 1st Q, 14-6 early 2nd Q, then in the final 3 minutes there was a flurry of 24 points (fumble and that 5y “drive”, 72y KO ret and 1p 28y “drive”, then a quick 3-and-out and another TD drive with just :28 left, but then a 45y FG as the clock expired)! WF led 24-20 HT, NCSt ret’d the 2nd H KO for TD for their first lead since the opening score, but this would be their only lead the rest of the game and it was short lived. WF built a 38-27 lead and 45-35 before NCSt scored with :45 left. The onside kick was close, recovered by NCSt but it was ruled it only went 9 yards, again close call. WF took a knee. 45-42 F

Oklahoma State dominated TCU leading 49-3 4th Q before TCU scored their first TD. OSU outgained them 682-335 (7.8-6.3) including 447 RY (7.2)! OSU converted 11-of-14 3rd downs! OSU D got 7 sacks!

Texas was 79-0 when favored by 24+ since 1978. Make that 79-1. Kansas won in Austin for the first time snapping their Big Xll road losing streak that dated back to 2008 (56 straight conference road losses). KU led 14-0, Texas tied. KU led 35-14 HT and 42-21 3rd Q. Texas came back. Texas came all the way back to tie 49-49 to force OT and scoring first in OT, KU scored and went for 2 for the win. 57-56 F. Texas outgained them 574-420 (7.1-5.7). KU outrushed them 218-164 (5.1-5.1). Kansas didn't turn the ball over. Texas was -4 turnovers. Horns fumbled at K35 and Kansas got a short field TD drive after a fumble recovery at the T23 and a 31y pick-six. Texas was called for 10 penalties 97y. KU was a perfect 7-for-7 scoring TDs in the RZ.

9:00 - later

Colorado led 10-0 and 20-7 when UCLA kicked a FG to end the 1st H. CU O started hot and UCLA didn't, Bruins were 0-for-4 3rd downs in the 1st H and 0-for-1 4th downs. UCLA was a buzz saw in the 2nd H, scored 4 straight TDs plus a punt return TD while shutting CU out (they missed FG as only scoring threat). 44-20 F. UCLA outgained them 501-358 (7.5-4.7) and outrushed them 244-192 (6.0-4.1). They went 4-for-6 3rd downs in the 2nd H. Bruin D got 4 sacks. DTR 18-29-257-0-1, leading rusher 98y w/ TD. Broussard did rush for 108 (6.8) for CU.

All the late scoring in Wazzou - Oregon got attention (3 TDs in final 6 minutes), but both QBs fumbled while going into the EZ. WSt's first drive of the game was fumbled as de Laura lunged and extended the ball, but he lost control before crossing the goal line and it was fumbled into EZ. Then in the 4th Q, Brown was running into EZ but the ball was stripped and WSt got a long return out of it. This fumble was upheld on replay because it couldn't be seen where the ball was. So those are two TDs that weren't. The first obviously wouldn've got WSt out to a 7-0 lead. Instead Oregon would lead 14-0 after a long drive and a short field following an INT. Oregon had 129-96 TY edge in 1st Q. WSt started in Ore terr after a fumble recovery for their first TD then had a long drive to tie at 14-14. WSt outgained them 266-124 at HT but the game was tied. Oregon came out with a dominant 3rd Q yardage wise (21p 157y to 9p 28) but only had 10 points! Ducks TD, FG from W04 and fumble at the W01 as mentioned earlier. It was 24-14 when Ducks fumbled and WSt turned that into a FG to make it 24-17. Ducks scored TD then WSt threw INT in own territory and Ore turned that into a 38-17 late 4th Q. WSt went down and scored TD with :08 left. 38-24 F. Oregon outgained them 441-371 (6.4-6.1) with a 306-91 RY edge (6.5-3.6). Both teams were really good 3rd downs (67-54%) and both were 3-of-5 RZ TDs, each kicked a RZ FG. Brown 17-22-135-1-0, leading rusher 17-123-TD. de Laura 20-36-280-2-2. Borghi+McIntosh 19att-98y.

First four possessions of the Utah State - San Jose game were punts with little O. San Jose was SOD at the U34, but then got a pick-six and the very next possesion got a fumble recovery in USU territory and would lead 14-0! It was all USU from there, they would score 4 straight drives (3 TDs + FG) one on a short field following a fumble recovery and led 24-14 HT. San Jose actually had a net -1 TY in the 2nd Q on 14 plays! SJ got a FG, USU a TD, then the 4th Q saw a run of points, a USU drive for TD, a short field FG after good field position following punt and a short field TD after INT. 48-17 F USU outgained them 410-150 (5.1-2.8)! with a 147-12 (3.1-.5) RY edge! SJ was penalized 8x for 100y. SJ converted just 1-of-12 3rd downs!

Nevada - San Diego State scored a total of 17 pts on the games first 5 possessions. SD ST led 10-7 and Nevada's O bogged down, SD St missed a FG, but would lead 17-7 early 3rd Q. Nevada scored to make it a game 17-14. SD ST extended to 20-14, but next drive Nevada got a wide open 54y TD to lead 21-20! On UNR's next poss a sack and a false start killed a drive. SD St got it back with 4-1/2min left at their own 30. Aztecs conveted a 4th-4 at their own 36 and would continue on to kick the go-ahead 35y FG with just 1:21 left. Strong completed two passes to get to midfield, but then threw 3 straight incompletions including a 4th-2 incompletion to end any hope of a comeback. TY were about even 362-358 for SD ST (5.0-5.7). SDSt was generally able to run and got a chunk here and there 186 RY (4.8) and Nevada was generally able to pass 71% on 48 attempts for 350y 3TDs no INTs. However, they combined for just 7-of-28 3rd downs. SD St was 2-of-2 4th down, the critical one that 4th-4 pass for 6 yards on that final drive and UNR was 1-for-2 with the failure being their incompeted pass on 4th-2 at the end.

That completes the Saturday recaps.
