49ers vs. Chiefs Discussion Thread

As a Chiefs backer I LOVE that they were mercilessly booed on freaking media night. They realized right then and there this will be a true road game with 90% Niners fans.

9ers have passed the Cowboys as America’s team. Be hard to find a road, let alone neutral stadium where they don’t have a large presence. Hell in upstate NY growing up there were and still are more 9er fans than Giants and Jets combined.

This is some "mental gymnastics" being used here to justify the pick.

You're selectively discounting some games, yet putting more importance on others with zero rhyme or reason.
Nothing mental here. Just stats and facts.
Turnovers dictate most games. Better teams lose because of it every week.
Stats cant be denied.

Detroit was better than KC in the offensive numbers. and BETTER than all three teams Bill Ravens and Chiefs..! Thats not dismissing anyone.

I used the entire season and playoffs now to show where both teams are. SF has the edge in every category except the passing yds allowed to this point.

When considering that SF played more teams who were better than who KC played - thats what stands up.

The Ravens would have won without the 3 turnovers and especially at the goal line.
KC has no shot at stopping McCaffrey or Purdy when they are all playing.

If we traded players that are difference makers.
Kelce would edge out Kittle.
McCaffrey would edge out any KC RB.
Samuel would edge out any KC receiver.
And Purdy is even with Mahomes this year -
but Purdy is better in TD's, Int's and QB Rating.

Again when looking at the common opponents or the playoff teams played, the edge is clearly on SF side.

Again SF was ranked #3 and #4, in combined stats -BEST of all playoff teams .. KC was no where near that and its been pointed out several times.

Gp Ahead and dissect what you feel shows any advantage for KC on this years teams.?
Im not opposed to what you show if you feel I dissected mine.

I'm only talking about how you decided that a loss by SF can be dismissed for whatever reason, but then also dismiss what KC did against Baltimore as the game was "gifted" to them.

Mental was probably the wrong word to use, I guess I was saying that you're selectively choosing which games should/do count as more impressive or meaningful. It's almost like using the transitive property and also picking and choosing which games should "really" count and matter.

Turnovers do dictate most games. They're also completely random from a statistical perspective.

I'm NOT at all saying KC has an, or any advantages. I'm also not saying that SF does. I'm simply talking about your "logic" for getting to where you are in your opinion.

I think I'm with you on SF though, seems like way too many people on KC here. May be one to wait until someone gets down a TD or 10 pts and put a ML bet on the team losing. Seems like it could be one of those games...again.

The main reason I can't back a Kyle Shanahan-coached team in the SB nor should you.

As offensive coordinator of the 2016 Falcons and head coach of the 2019 49ers, they outscored their opponents 48-19 through the first three quarters of both games but were outscored 46-0 in the 4th qtr and OT.

Let's not forget how lucky SF is to even be in this position. The brains of this organization traded away 3 first round picks and one 3rd rounder to move up in the 2021 draft to take QB Trey Lance. Let's say that name again...Trey Lance. Apparently the niners organization collectively saw the future in this guy yet he only started 4 games and is now on the Cowboys roster. The fact they took Brock Purdy in the 7th round and he has been as good as he's been is nothing short of an unbelievable stroke of luck or they would be trying to reach a super bowl with Sam Darnold at the helm.

Seems like Vegas is all in on the Niners setting up for a rush of public money on the Chiefs.

That being said, Niners need to get over these slow starts. Let’s get it!

Btw, I will tolerate absolutely ZERO purdy slander. He was beyond clutch in that 2H
What exactly has Purdy done? He comes into the SB having thrown two TD's and 1 interception in his two playoff starts. And those numbers came after having a week off to rest before facing GB. Seems like downtime is not the friend of Purdy and the niners...

Can’t disagree, which is why I think the Chiefs being public favorites (not necessarily betting favorites) takes a lot of pressure off of him and Purdy.

There was also a time where people said the same about Reid until Mahomes fell into his lap
Im thinking there is more pressure on SF to succeed, what with giving up so many draft picks to win now.

With the Chiefs scripting in 1Qs...

And with the SF struggle against such in the early going...

1Q TT over 3.5 -105?

In the past, it has sometimes taken the Chiefs D a quarter or 2 to get its footing. See Buffalo playoff game this year and Eagles Super Bowl last year. Carved up for a half then settled in and got some stops.

The Chiefs have lost 2 quarters the entire playoffs. Dominated the Fins, owned the Bills 2nd half and then dominated the Ravens.

I'm not in the camp that views Purdy as a fraud. But Mahomes has the edge as the better qb you'd have to be delusional to put them in the same category. SF has the better weapons at wr

Reid is head & shoulders the better in game coach. An all time great.

KC D has shown throughout the season they are for real.

How in the world can you be confident betting against them?

FWIW I don't even have a wager on anything & my mushiest friend is all over KC. I might just grab the points if either one gets down live.

Update on big bets. Always fascinates me.

$1 million: The first of what's expected to be several million-dollar Super Bowl bets was reported Jan. 30 by Caesars Sportsbook. The bet: $1 million on the 49ers money line (-120).

$260,000: A bettor at FanDuel placed a $260,000 wager on the 49ers moneyline at -130, which would net $200,000 if San Francisco wins.

• $120,000: One bettor at South Point put in wagers for 60 different props across the board at $2,000 each for a total of $120,000, per Vaccaro.

$105,000: Legendary Las Vegas bookmaker Jimmy Vaccaro of the South Point casino reported taking a $105,000 bet on the 49ers -1 on Jan. 29.

$105,000: One bettor at BetMGM put down $140 on Kyle Juszczyk to win Super Bowl MVP at 750-1 odds. The wager would net $105,000 if Juszczyk claims the award.

$100,000: Caesars reported taking a $100,000 on the coin toss to land tails from a Michigan bettor on Jan. 30. A hundred K on the coin toss? What the flip!?

Side note: The most popular prop bet at DraftKings as of Feb. 2 was... tails. The second-most popular: heads.

$25,000 to win $1 million: A bettor with DraftKings reportedly put $25,000 on Kansas City running back Isiah Pacheco to be named Super Bowl MVP. At 40-1, the bet would pay $1 million.

$15,000 to win $975,000: A bettor with DraftKings dropped $15,000 on Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice to be MVP. At 65-1, the bet would win $975,000.

I showed why Detroit was hard to beat. The Lions had better stats offensively than KC does this year.

KC lost to Detroit and GB SU.

Also - I remember that SF was supposed to be the better team when Mahome won his first SB over SF, with less experience than Garoppolo.

This year KC has less offense (no Hill who had 105 yds in that game) and SF has added McCaffrey - and Purdy who has better stats this year than Mahome.

But - the regular season is a bigger example of how many playoff teams each team played and what the record was.
Both SF and KC had losses without all the starters playing but since KC lost SU to 2 teams that SF beat - still shows SF is the better team.

The one los to Baltimore by SF doesn't hold up because of the 5 SF turnovers IMO.

In the Chiefs win over Baltimore - the Ravens had 3 turnovers and one goal line fumble that changed the outcome. The Chiefs were gifted that win.

Im not discounting Mahomes talent but KC doesnt have McCaffrey and he is the main difference when you can see that Purdy and Mahome are about the same.

The Ravens shutout of KC in the 2nd half last week, gives the SF defense a solid game plan to duplicate what the Ravens did.
Much like when SF shut out Detroit in the 2nd half and allowed that late TD to get the ball.and run out the clock.

Lets hope there are no turnovers and that the winner will be who plays best.

BOL Cap.
I have been breezing through this guys never ending writeups but had some time last night and decided to read some, including this one. There is a lot of incorrect info and plain old bias in this writeup. I will break it down line by line.

"Also - I remember that SF was supposed to be the better team when Mahome won his first SB over SF, with less experience than Garoppolo."

Mahomes entered that game with three postseason wins under his belt while Garoppolo had two.

"This year KC has less offense (no Hill who had 105 yds in that game)"

They did not have Tyreek Hill last year when they won the SB.

"Purdy who has better stats this year than Mahome."

First, SF is a running team that finished last in pass attempts while the Chiefs are a passing team who had the second most pass attempts during the 2023 season. How can you compare the QB's when one team threw it 635 times during the season to a team that threw it only 491 times?

And while we are comparing the QB'S, here are their postseason stats thus far:

Mahomes: 4 TD's 0 Int's 105.2 passer rating
Purdy: 2 TD's 1 Int 87.8 passer rating

"Both SF and KC had losses without all the starters playing but since KC lost SU to 2 teams that SF beat - still shows SF is the better team."

Do you have the stats backing that statement up or is that just your opinion?

"The one los to Baltimore by SF doesn't hold up because of the 5 SF turnovers IMO."

How that loss doesn't hold up is head shaking. Balt led 33-12 in the 4th quarter. Don't teams that score more points in a game ALWAYS win that game???

"In the Chiefs win over Baltimore - the Ravens had 3 turnovers and one goal line fumble that changed the outcome. The Chiefs were gifted that win."

Gifted? The fact that Steve Spagnuolo's defense allowed a total of three points in the second half is somehow a gift for KC??

"Im not discounting Mahomes talent but KC doesnt have McCaffrey and he is the main difference when you can see that Purdy and Mahome are about the same."

Mahomes: 4 TD's 0 Int's 105.2 postseason passer rating
Purdy: 2 TD's 1 Int 87.8 postseason passer rating

"The Ravens shutout of KC in the 2nd half last week, gives the SF defense a solid game plan to duplicate what the Ravens did.
Much like when SF shut out Detroit in the 2nd half and allowed that late TD to get the ball.and run out the clock."

Lets compare the defensive coordinators:
Steve Wilks - 1st year as the niners DC. He has coached in one super bowl back in 2015 when he coached the defensive backs and was the asst. head coach for the Panthers, who lost 24-10 to Denver.

Steve Spagnuolo - was the DC for the Giants in 2007 when they beat the undefeated Patriots 17-14 in the SB. He has been the defensive coordinator for the Chiefs since 2019 and has two SB wins and one loss under his belt.

"Lets hope there are no turnovers and that the winner will be who plays best."

Normally the better team creates turnovers. In what world does a team that coughs up the football in a game more than the other team considered the better team in that game???

So why did I go through this line by line? I'll tell you. This guy has SF as a 25 unit game of the year pick. I'm not suggesting that SF can't win but where are the HUGE mismatches in the 49ers favor to suggest this is a game of the year selection???

Thanks for your time.

Im thinking there is more pressure on SF to succeed, what with giving up so many draft picks to win now.

This is where the ranting is coming to a head. I don’t think the draft picks is giving one shred of pressure on the SB.

Just talking for the sake of talking at this point.

Reid is a better HC but I’m not sure if he’s a better play caller. If you gave Kyle Pat there’s no way this team is putting up 90 yards or whatever they did to the Raiders.

Kyle takes the crown as best coach in the league if he wins on Sunday. But like we’ve all listened to all week - a nearly impossible feat awaits them.

G-Man, I wish him luck. But he caps like we are in algebra using the transitive property. Well team a was worse than team b at something. So they must be worse than team c who was also good. It wins once in a while. Not a long term success strategy.

America’s team? I grew up content being the only KC fan I knew. Turn on the tv, chiefs players. Turn on social media, chiefs players. Kids are now walking around in Mahomes jerseys here in Rhode Island. And the Chiefs fans travel everywhere and we were in solid numbers at Baltimore. How in gods green earth are the Niners Americas team?

As much as I hated the Pats over the years, there are parallels. Can’t tell you how many times I felt like "this is the week I get them" only to lose again and again. Bet against Mahomes as a dog at your own risk

Please stop with this impossible shit. You guys have been favored 20 straight games. And I like how we can pick one arbitrary time when the Championship Belt of Best Coach is on the line. Kyle Shanahan is a very good coach. He could not shine Andy's shoes or clean under the skin folds on his stomach. Andy Reid is approaching top 2 or 3 all time status, let's pump the breaks on who the best coach in the league is. This is like the people who said Josh Allen would be QB1 if he finally won once over Mahomes in the playoffs. Relaxxxx

Mmmm. Explain it again. With those nuggies.

Reid > Shanny right now for sure.

As far as the "impossible" I think he is being cheeky in that almost every single media pundit is coronating the Chiefs already. This is in addition to 80% of the money being on the Chiefs. So yes, the Niners are "favored" but like I said earlier in this thread it seems like more people would be shocked if Purdy/49ers beat the Chiefs then the other way around.

Chiefs are definitely the bandwagon team now. I don’t think there’s any question about it. Niners are near the top in overall fans through the years with GB, Dallas, Pittsburgh. It comes with winning. Like you said KC is becoming the new NE. Reid is the better coach. And Allen isn’t even QB2. That would be Joe Burrow.

Andy Reid is up there sure but the Shanny disrespect has to stop. So what about Trey Lance?! He’s in the SB with Mr Irrelevant that he drafted! He has shown it doesn’t matter who QBs.

Maybe it’s just NO but there are a shit ton of Niners fans here. Could be old West day riders but there are tons

We’re everywhere. Half my childhood friends are 9er fans on the other side of the country. It was Cowboys or 9ers growing up in the 90s.

77% of “expert” picks on Chiefs.

49 of 64 ESPN.

Steelers, Packers and Cowboys fans far outweigh Niners fans in AZ. In order it would go Cowboys, Steez, Pack...maybe Bears even are larger. Lots of Niners fans but not nearly the presence of the big 3. Not just because who goes to games, it's more about how many outings/bars each of those teams have here. I know of more Seahawks and Vikings bars than Niners, Bills too.

That blows my mind as the stadium hasn’t had a visible Cardinal fan in the stands for 5 years when they play the 9ers.

Ah, more Seahawk bars.

They all wear red

Pretty sure the biggest "road" crowd since this stadium opened in 2006 is still the Bears for Monday Night when Hester ran back the punt, estimated at 30%. The other teams mentioned might get to the 20s, Steez made a good push but they only get here once every 6 years. Niners might be 7th.

This place is all about transplants

You're delusional to think what you do about the Niners fans everywhere, I just roll with it and laugh though. Figure it's just part of your schtick and it's funny.

We can argue 9ers Cowboys. Steelers sure. Next wave being Chiefs.

But stop with Seahawk bars in Arizona lol. I’ll go back and watch Hawks and 9ers at Zona. I remember announcers saying 2/3 9er fans.

One thing we can agree on Cardinal fans are probably outside the top 10, in Arizona.

All they are are estimates, again 30% Bears was, and still is the highest estimate. That was before the Cards actually became a legitimate team for a few years and a full generation has grown up here.

Last statement is a good troll though, ironically up there with a couple other posters in this thread.

Not many people from the Bay Area relocate here unlike those other places. And 2/3 Niners fans sounds like an awfully scientific poll lmfao.
