2023 Texas Rangers - Entire Season

Our first walk off win off the season, final score 8-5 bringing our record to 7-4
We wasted a good start by Jake costing him a W but bottom line is the team won a game that last year we’d have lost

Corey Seager left the game in the 5th with a left hamstring issue & I’m 95% sure he’s heading to the DL
Luckily we have Josh Smith who plays SS exceptional

Jake threw 98 pitches over 7 innings
he gave up 7 hits 2 runs both were earned
walked none and struck out 9

Hernandez & W Smith each gave up 1 run

Leclerc blew the save for the first time this season

Ragans (W 2-0) pitched 0.2 and got the win he didn’t allow any hits

Jonah Heim went 1-5 but his only hit was a walk off 3 run HR
it was his second HR of the season

Garcia 1-4 drove in 2 .227

Semien 2-5 drove in 1 .229

Lowe 1-5 drove in 1 .261

B Miller 1-2 drove in 1

Jung 2-3 .263

Jankowski 0-4

Bubba Thompson 0-4

Eovaldi takes to the hill tonight to go for the sweep
We’re off tomorrow then we head to Houston for a weekend series

It’s nice to be 7-4 but we’ve achieved this record by beating a lot of bad teams
Let’s see what happens when we play the Astros,Yankees this week and the end of the month

If there was ever a year to compete with Stros this would be it. I don’t say that cause the record so much as just looking at their lineup it not nearly as deep or intimidating as years past. The pitching staff still incredibly solid but they maybe don’t have that big time leader type. They seem vulnerable to me. I think seattle is better despite their slow start also, l think they be fine.

No need to sugarcoat this game, we got our asses kicked
Final score Royals 10-1 dropping our record to 7-5

Eovaldi (L 1-2) got lit up 5.0 innings gave up 10 hits 6 runs all of them earned
walked none struck out 7 and gave up a solo HR

Hearn got lit up as well 2.0 innings he gave up 4 hits and 4 runs all earned
his last two appearances have been awful 10.29 ERA

Hernandez & Kennedy both pitched scoreless innings

Semien 0-4 .212
Josh Smith 0-3 .158
Lowe 1-4 drove in 1 as he hit a solo HR his 2nd of the year
Garcia 0-3
Duran 0-1
Jung 2-4 .286
Grossman 0-4 .143
Miller 1-2
Tavares 0-3
Leon 0-3

we struck out 10 times and went 0-2 with RISP and left 5 on base

off today and tomorrow we travel south to Houston

Marty scuffled through five innings and our offense scored six runs as we go on to beat the ‘Stros 6-2
Our record is now 8-5

Perez (W 2-1) went 5 innings giving up 5 hits 2 runs both of them earned
Walked 4 struck out 4 and gave up 2 HR’s

Josh Smith 0-3 .130

Heim 2-5 .294

Jankowski,Miller & Taveras all went 1-4

we struck out 11 times and went 4-14 with RISP and left 9 on base

In a surprising bullpen move, the front office pulled a very quick trigger with Taylor Hearn
He didn’t allow any runs in his first two outings of the season against the Phillies and Orioles but gave up four runs in games against the Cubs and Royals this past week
The dummies upfront hope his stuff can return to form in Round Rock

Tonight Gray gets the ball…

Jon Gray got hit by a line drive on his right elbow and left the game after two innings
he gave up one hit one run which was earned walked one and struck out two as we lost the game
Final score was 8-2 our record is now 8-6

Ragans (L 2-1) he pitched 4 innings gave up 5 hits gave up 2 runs both were earned

Heim,Grossman and Tavares all went hitless

we struck out 8 times and went 2-8 with RISP and left 7 on base

been a tough week Seager gets hurt and now Gray
The once “shiny penny” is now getting dirty
will be very interesting to see how this team responds
I personally don’t think Bocce Ball is the right manager, the next 10 games will tell us all who’s right

Heaney gets the ball tomorrow night…

Solid pitching from Heaney aided by a seven run sixth inning and we coast to a series win as well
Final score was 9-1 our record is now 9-6

Heaney 5.0 innings gave up only two hits no runs
walked three struck out four

Burke gave up the lone run in his 1 inning

we struck out 10 times and went 4-10 with RISP and left 3 on base

on our way to Kansas City for a three game series
Jake (1-0) takes to the hill

15 games in and we are 9-6
it’s a better record than I expected
we’ve beaten the teams that are supposed to be beaten
which is an improvement from the last few years
Seager getting hurt isn’t good
Jung so far has been better than I expected
Gray is sore but nothing is broken and he shouldn’t miss his next start
Josh Smith needs his bat to wake up
he plays a great SS and other positions
but with a .148 BA his long term tenure with the big club is in jeopardy
Grossman started hot but has cooled off
now batting .150

As long as our starting rotation stays healthy we can compete
I still foresee injuries and we win 74-76 games
I really hope I’m wrong and we battle for a playoff spot
Let’s see what the next 15 games brings us…

Even though we won 4-0 and raised our record to 10-6
Jake left the game with right wrist soreness after he had pitched four scoreless innings

Jake 4.0 no hits no runs walked 1 struck out 5 threw 58 pitches

Dunning (W 1-0) 4.1 1 hit no runs walked 1 struck out 5

Leclerc 0.2 no hits

Jung 1-3 drove in 3
he hit his 3rd HR a 3 run shot

Semien 1-3 drove in 1
he hit his 3rd HR a solo shot

Jankowski, Miller, Josh Smith & Tavares all went 0-4
Josh’s BA is now at .133 as good as he is in the field his days are numbered on this club if his bat doesn’t wake up VERY soon

Heim and Grossman each got 1 hit

Lowe 0-4

only 3 strikeouts tonight went 1-3 with RISP and left 5 on base

Eovaldi takes to the hill tomorrow night and by then we will know is Jakes wrist is a problem or not…

We stomped the lowly Royals again
Final score was 12-2 that was our third win in a row

Duran 2-5 drove in 1

Jankowski 2-4 drove in 1

Lowe 1-4 drove in 1

Jung 1-4

Grossman 1-3

we struck out 7 times and went 7-13 with RISP and left 6 on base

Perez takes to the hill this afternoon to try for a series sweep
Day off tomorrow and then the A’s come to town for a weekend series

As of this writing the news about Jake was encouraging, this morning he’ll throw and see if his soreness has subsided

Yet another easy win
Final score was 12-3 we’ve now won four in a row
We are 8-2 over our last 10 games

Jung 1-4

Jankowski 0-3

Lowe 1-4

Josh Smith 1-3

we struck out 11 times
8-13 with RISP and left 7 on base

it’s nice to be 12-6 BUT we’ve built our record by beating the crappy teams in the league
last year we’d have lost a few of the games we’ve won this year, so that’s a vast improvement
our next six games are against below average teams and then we get our first real test on the 27th when the Yankees come to town for four games

I do feel that losing Seager wasn’t a bad thing but if Jake,Marty or Andrew go on the DL then the wheels will fall off the bus

So for now let’s enjoy the ride…

We are off tomorrow and the A’s come to town for a three game set

Ya’ll took 2 of 3 in Houston! I don’t think houston the same team but they still the team you gotta go thru to compete in the west. Certainly not beating the dregs that series! They had a series with balty, swept Philly, hasn’t been as easy a schedule as say the rays! Now ya’ll get the biggest whipping boys in the league, need to sweep these clowns!!

This loss bought back memories from the past few years
Have a comfortable lead over a crappy team and then lose the game
Final score was A’s 5 Rangers 4 our record is now 12-7
We posted a 4 spot in the bottom of the first and then we fell asleep

Gray 5.1 innings gave up 5 hits 4 runs 3 of those were earned walked 5 struck out 2 and gave up a solo HR

Hernandez,Burke & Leclerc all pitched scoreless innings

W Smith (L 0-1) took the loss

Grossman 2-4

Jung 1-4

Duran 1-2

Tavares & Thompson 0-2

Jankowski 1-2

we struck out 12 time and went 2-6 with RISP and left 4 on base

the turning point came in the 8th when Semien and Grossman led off with a walk and a single to put two on with no outs with the heart of the lineup coming to bat - Lowe,García and Jung all did squat

tonight will be an interesting game, let’s see if Bocce Balls team comes out big or we show everyone we are the same ol same ol

Well we exploded tonight, final score was 18-3 raising our record to 13-7

Heaney (W 2-1) 6.0 5 hits 2 runs both earned walked 2 struck out 4

Kennedy 1.0 gave up 1 hit no runs

struck out 6 times and went 7-13 with RISP and left 8 on base

Jake gets the ball tomorrow afternoon, he will be on a very short leash though…

This win was encouraging to see as last years team wouldn’t have exploded after a loss like last nights

After dropping Fridays opener, we won the next two and won the series
Final score was 5-2 bumping up our record to 14-7

Jake (W 2-0) 6.0 innings gave up 3 hits 2 runs 1 of them earned
walked none struck out 11 and gave up a solo HR
He struck out 11 without issuing a walk
It’s just the 15th such outing in club history of 11+ strikeouts and no walks, but the 16th time deGrom has logged double-digit strikeouts and no walks in his career
Jake leads all of MLB with 43 strikeouts in just 26 2/3 innings

Burke,Hernandez & W Smith all pitched scoreless innings

Grossman 1-2 drove in 4 he hit his 2nd HR a 3 run shot

Taveras 3-4

Semien,Lowe,Heim,Duran and Jankowski all collected 1 hit

Garcia & Jung combined to go 0-7

Bubba Thompson 0-2

we struck out 6 times went 2-8 with RISP and left 10 on base

Off to Cincinnati for a three game set then on Thursday the f-ing Jankees come to town
For me the Yankees series is the first big series of this season, we must go at least 2-2 to show everyone if this team has turned the corner…

Two of our last four losses have been because of our awful bullpen
If you put lipstick and a dress on a pig it’s still a pig
For the first few weeks the “pig” stayed clean but now the season is in full bloom and we now stink
Final score was Reds 7 Us 6 our record is now 14-8

Some might say why complain you’re six games over .500 and in first place
My answer is because we’ve gotten fat by beating the shittiest teams in baseball
We will start playing better teams later this week and from then on

Our pen is full of no names and retread arms
Sure they’re ok for a while but then they get figured out and start stinking up the place

Eovaldi threw 89 pitches over 6 innings

Heim 0-4 drove in 1

Jankowski 3-5

Garcia 2-5

Duran & Taveras both went 0-3

struck out a season high 14 times that’s 25 times in the first two games
the same shitty habits are creeping back

went 2-8 with RISP and left 7 on base

Gray gets the start tomorrow afternoon to avoid the sweep
This wasn’t the way to start the week as the Yankees head to town on Thursday

To those who thought the 2023 Texas Rangers were farting rainbows & peppermints
Guess what? Reality has just set in
We were SWEPT by the lowly Reds
Final score was 5-3 & now 4 of our last 6 losses was because our pen SUCKS
Our record is now 14-10

I’ve been writing about the pen long before opening day & now 24 games into the season it’s been exposed

Gray threw 95 pitches over his 6.0 innings
gave up 4 hits 3 runs all of those earned

Josh Smith & Taveras both went 0-4
Smith now batting .146

we struck out 10 times and went 1-7 with RISP and left 6 on base

deGrom gets the ball tomorrow night

Bocce Ball’s team is in a free fall and if Jake doesn’t get the W tomorrow night then we most likely will lose 4 in a row to the Yankees

The team is playing with no heart, not one player has stepped up to lead the team
Maybe a good old fashioned bench clearing brawl would be the spark to get this team back on track…

The four game losing streak came to an end, we beat the Yankees 5-2 upping our record to 15-11

Jake left the game AGAIN early after throwing only 50 pitches
3.2 innings gave up 1 hit no runs walked 1 struck out 2

Is he a great pitcher? YES but he’s extremely fragile and I expect him to be placed on the DL for a while

we are guaranteed a split with the Yankees and as I said this morning Jake was placed on the DL with right elbow inflammation
it’s listed as a 15 day stint but I’ll tell y’all he won’t be back anytime soon

will be interesting to see if the staff rebounds
Dunning will take Jakes turn

Marty goes to the mound tomorrow afternoon
Off Monday then the D’Backs come to town on Tuesday

We whipped the Yankees 15-2 which means we won the series 3-1 and upped our record to 17-11

struck out 10 times and went 5-11 with RISP and left 5 on base

Ended up the month of April with 17 wins and a +72 run differential
When our offense clicks it’s one of the leagues best

On paper it was a very impressive month BUT
Jake threw only 30.1 innings
he has a 2.67 ERA and 45 strikeouts
We are undefeated in his 6 starts but he will be on the shelf for at least 3-4 more weeks

Our bullpen has many holes as was shown when the Reds swept us earlier in the week
I can confirm that we are very actively looking for two big arms to help us out

Seager won’t be around for the month of May

Can our starters keep up the solid outings?
Let’s hope so
It’s nice to be in first place after a month but let’s not order any playoff tickets just yet
May has 31 days and we have 27 games to play…

Gray didn’t bring his “A” game but we overcame a early 4-1 deficit to win 6-4 upping our record to 18-11

Gray 5.1 gave up 8 hits 4 runs all of them earned
Walked 1 struck out 2 and gave up 2 HRs

Tomorrow is a day off…

Heaney didn’t have anything & the D’Backs blew us away
Final score was 12-7 dropping our record to 18-12

Heaney 4.2 gave up 4 hits 6 runs all of them earned
Walked 4 struck out 5 & gave up 3 HRs

Sborz (L 0-1) 1.1 gave up 2 hits 3 runs all earned

Leclerc 0.1 1 hit 2 runs both earned

Kennedy 1.1 2 hits 1 run which was earned & gave up a HR
It’s time for Kennedy to get DFA’d

Jung 3-5 drove in 3
he hits 2 HRs his 7th & 8th
does he have talent? YES
BUT he’s a me player, not a team player
someone soon needs to put this kid in check soon

Heim 1-5 drove in 1
he hit his 6th HR a solo shot

Taveras 3-3 drove in 1
he hit his 1st HR

Jankowski 1-4 drove in 1

Travel day tomorrow as we head off on a 10 games western road trip
in Ahaheim for 3 then to Seattle for 3 finally to Oakland for a 4 game series

I predict a 3-7 road trip…

Surely ya’ll can take 3 of 4 from the hapless A’s? I don’t think ya’ll get swept by seattle, they having a terrible time scoring runs. I say ya’ll can go 5-5, any worse be disappointing.

In fact ya’ll should probably sweep the 4 with Oakland, they are just that bad, they had seattle beat the last 2 days and managed to lose them both! I’ll stick with 3-1 but I can’t wait to get ya’ll in the -140/-150 range in Oakland, I’ll be all over rangers that series! Been saying it all year, this a’s team might be the worst team I ever seen!

2-4 vs laa and seattle could happen but it could just as easily be 3-3, if ya’ll could pull 3-3 off you sure to have a winning road trip. Have a little optimism, your team playing way better than mine! Seattle struggling mightily to score runs. You guys miss ohtani and actually have pretty good pitching matchups to potentially win that series. I think 5-5 should be worst case scenario for this trip. 3-7 would be a pitiful effort, I’d bet they more likely to be above .500 than below these 10.

In reality they should go 7-3 on this trip
BUT
Heaney & Gray seem to be heading in the wrong direction
0-3 vs Angels
1-2 vs Seattle
2–2 vs A’s

Bro, a’s would practically double their win total If they take 2, I don’t see that, even if they get to your starters that oak pen is pure trash. You guys offense will feast on them. I think you guys have very favorable pitching matchups at laa, no way they get swept, I think they win that series. Seattle can’t score so it will be interesting seeing them vs gray and Heaney as I think that be where they pitch, I’d guess Heaney be fine in Seattle, gray I worry about. 3-3 heading to Oakland and 3-1 at worst vs that minor league squad. I’ll go with 6-4, feel confident 5-5 at worst, you def know them better than me but you might be too close and a tad pessimistic.

I see our offense sleeping in Anaheim
I’ll say we score 10 runs over the 3 games

Off to Seattle for a three game series…

This gonna be the toughest series cause they drawing seattle 3 best pitchers imo. The question gonna be can Gray and Heaney keep them in games agaibst a offense who has really underperformed so far. Considering that I think these huge starts for those 2 to tell us what we need to know. I’m far more worried bout Gray at the moment, I’ve seen evough good from Heaney to think he give ya’ll a chance. Gray worries me, something ain’t right w him to be carrying a 19:14 k:bb ratio in 30 innings, he a strikeout a inning guy when he right. Last thing they want is to pitch poorly enough it helps jump start seattle offense!

An extremely well pitched game by both starters and in only two hours and sixteen minutes
Final score was Rangers two Seattle one
Our record now moves to 21-13

Gray was nasty striking out 8
He threw 89 pitches over his 7 innings of work

Jung is 2 for his last 18 at bats .244
He committed his 3rd error last night

Dunning goes to the hill this afternoon
Then off to Oakland for a four game series

I think ya’ll did fantastic to split those 1st 2. Did Gray actually look a lot better the other night or was it as much a product of seattle offense being very shaky? I see you described him as nasty so unless you say otherwise I’m gonna assume his stuff looked a lot better than it had in previous starts this year. I sure didn’t see that coming!!

Heaney line looks bout what I woulda expected, maybe went a tad deeper than I woulda thought. Just ran into another really good pitcher! So that makes them 3-2 so far on this trip correct? I love Castillo but he hasn’t been his best his last 2-3 outings, I’d guess he probably has a strong showing today but dunning certainly capable of keeping it close and turning it into a game decided by the pens. Even if they drop this game they should take at least 3 vs oakland and have a above .500 road trip, impressive stuff assuming they take care of business vs the A’s.

Gray was very sharp & I think we’ll be in deep shit if he gets hurt

Heaney if he can give us 150+ innings will be fine
at best he will be a .500 pitcher

A’s will be a thorn in our side

yes we continue to win but our sloppy batting habits will catch up to us soon

went 4-15 with RISP and left 9 on base

Off to Oakland for a four game series
Eovaldi takes to the hill carrying his 20 scoreless inning streak

You really think they gonna struggle w A’s when Eovaldi then perez lined up to start series? Feel like they should for sure take the 1st 2 with a’s coming back from east coast without a day off just seems like a great situation vs a really bad team. Going 4-2 vs laa and seattle it would be damn near tragic not to take 3 of 4 vs oakland.

Obviously I don’t remember that! Lol. I dunno who they faced that series but reds have 3 youngsters that have ace type stuff in their rotation. I don’t think A’s have anything like that to offer, they got one young pitcher with some really good stuff but not many and their bullpen is freakin awful. I assume texas gonna be really big favs, I feel fairly confident they take 3 of 4 but stranger things have happened.

Eovaldi was once again lights out and he extended his scoreless inning streak to 28.2
Which is the longest streak in MLB this year

His scoreless streak is the longest by a Rangers pitcher since 2015, Yovani Gallardo threw for 33.1 innings

Marty takes to the hill tonight…

At some point we gonna have to talk bout rangers as legit contenders to win the west! Seattle continues not to hit, Stros dealing w one injury after another, im not sure it that crazy anymore? Might just come down to if the starters can hold up thru the entire season.
