i bet this every year and feel like i am on the right side...although i have lost a couple times when performers have gone away from their normal style on the big stage and burned my under while holding the last notes...basically showing off...this is how i do it

my wife sings and follows most entertainers so i have her sing the anthem in the style of the particular singer that is singing that day and i run the stop watch....also i check in with dave neumann from cleveland who is a good friend and a performer,he doesn't bother to sing it or anything he just says right off which way it is going to go

one year i had the under because my wife was 10 seconds under and dave says to me....your wife is wrong because whoever (can't remember her name) is a showoff and she will hold those last few notes....dave was right,it was way under and she held the last two notes so long that it went over by 2 second....so funny

last year or the year before there was no line out there that i could find because whoever sang (can't remember his name) it was going to slow it down to a crawl and everybody knew it and it was a lock on the over so none of the books that i was associated with offered it...i was bummed

the line is typically right around 1:44 and i will be sure to put my two cents in here after i have handicapped the singer....the cool thing is that if you win you are + money on the game before the coin toss

rex is correct in his assumption of a middle as there is no chance of it going over 2:02 and a decent chance of over 1:38...it is difficult for me to believe that a book has 2:02....that is just too high....just like rex to figure this shit out in a heartbeat

i do not believe jordon sparks will be nervous......the chick has spent her entire life in front of crowds doing what she does best....i personally think she will rock it and it will be an awesome performance....her career seemed to have stalled in recent years but she seems to be coming back....she's worth a ton

thanks for the insight

will also ask what does Jordin Sparks have to do with the nat anthem?

FYI Rex' post was from 2008...this thread has been around for 7 years and only the past 4-5 posts reference this years anthem

Jordin Sparks isn't singing it this year

My wife has chimed in with her opinion "Oh definitely over, she's Broadway, voice of Elsa in the movie Frozen, major powerhouse voice....fwiw

BJ - FWIW Jordin Sparks went way over, I recall cause I lost.

Once my girlfriend told me who this broad is I leaned over. Obnoxious bitches with mouths similar to a bass do not shut up. Plus something tells me she loves the limelight & will take every second of fame she can get.

Hey bitch, that movie sucked!

You're the wrong gender and age for that movie.

This is one of the tougher years to predict, she's gone both over and under 2:02.5. I'm leaning over on the basis that this its a warm weather atmosphere, she seems to speed things up in the cold of Giants stadium.

I realize that Gandolf but my daughters were 14 & 9 when I took them to see it. We saw the previews during another movie & it looked funny with the snowman & elk chasing a carrot on a frozen pond. Movie was not funny. My girls were somewhat disappointed too.

So in 2009 Idina finished it well under two minutes even though she held "Free" & "brave" forever. Any chance she goes longer this time due to her higher popularity? 2:01 is a long ass time for that song, I don't care who you are.

Just to add to thread...

My site still has 2min 10sec -120 each side. Looks to be tons of value on over based on the lines of other sites

Under seems the logical answer based on history but hard to bet with my -140 juice

'Funny at Bookmaker is at 134.5 seconds and the under is +125 vs the over at -153..

Makes you think they already know how long the national anthem is going to be..

We all know how exciting the Super Bowl is, and with the dozens and dozens of proposition betting opportunities, you don't have to bet on whether Carolina will win and/or cover against Denver in Super Bowl 50. You can actually get paid before the ball even goes in the air.

This year, Lady Gaga will have the honors of singing the Star-Spangled Banner before the big game. She is one of the bigger stars to fulfill this honor, and she will be busy in next few weeks, with performance upcoming at the Oscars and Grammy Awards as well. This will be the ninth year in a row that a female has performed the national anthem, with Billy Joel being the last male to perform the song back at Super Bowl XLI.

Let's break this down from the fundamental standpoints, so we can figure out the right side of the first graded bet of the event.

The only time I was able to watch Lady Gaga singing the national anthem on tape was when she performed at the 2013 New York City Pride Rally. Evidently, the linesmakers have this same tape, because her rendition lasted 2 minutes and 16 seconds. I was unable to find any other useful footage and have still not been able to find a soundcheck tape, either, so I guess we'll be left in the dark.

My buddy has adroitly opened the line at 136.5 seconds, with the juice on the UNDER at -135 (OVER 136.5 seconds would yield a payout of plus-105 on the 30-cent line at the opener from Thursday afternoon). Officially, this is graded by most sportsbooks from the start of the first note until the end of the word 'brave'. Yes, the same 2:16 or so that Lady Gaga performed in New York.

Going back through some historical performances is the next step in finding the winner here.

Last year, Tony-award winner Idina Menzel belted out the anthem in 125 seconds, which was slightly OVER the closing total of 122.5 (under -160).

In Super Bowl XLVIII, Grammy-award winning Soprano singer Renee Fleming beat the total by more than 18 seconds, with her rendition lasting just 2:02, despite the closing line of 140.5 seconds flat. As this thread shows, there were a spate of UNDERS from Super Bowls 42-47 or so.

Let's play the personality angle. Lady Gaga likes attention and likes the spotlight. The 29-year old Manhattan native is worth nine figures by becoming one of the best-selling musicians of all time. Since her 2008 release of "The Fame", she has sold 28 million albums and grossed more than $300 million from 3.2 million tickets in her first three worldwide concert tours. We're already mentioned her upcoming performances within the next month or so. She likes attention and will use this Super Bowl stage to remind everyone of her star power.

The best way to do that is to draw out the Star-Spangled Banner. While I know she is an LGBT advocate and that performance in New York that is widely available on YouTube from 2013 was filled with passion, I still think she will go longer in the Super Bowl, just to get a bit more air time from CBS and all other worldwide outlets televising the game.

One x-factor is the sound check. This isn't available (from what I can tell) yet but I will constantly be checking every 30-45 minutes leading up to around 6 Eastern for a clip of her "practice" rendition to try and tab just how long she might sing today. I foresee something in the range of 2:21, or 141 seconds, making the OVER my recommendation here.

GL :shake:

My site has graded my over of 130.5 seconds a winner. A lot of controversy on Twitter already. One of the big Vegas books had the time as 129 seconds (2min 9 sec) because it ended after the first "brave"

the two guys i was with and me all had 2:21. (2:21.08, 2:21.24 and 2:21.29). I made sure the offices i deal with all graded it at 141 seconds. It was a sweat for sure but Lady Gaga's 18 second "brave" was tremendous and got me over the top after it looked pretty bleak going into the last sentence.

Country guy this year, right? Will likely stay on the straight and narrow, bare bones.

Under.

There are several different videos of Luke singing at different events on youtube (Titans game, MLB allstar game, concerts, NASCAR), he holds the last notes for 'free' and 'brave' for only 2-3 seconds each in each version. Luke doesn't seem to drag out the anthem, only if he pauses abit.

Mr. bro country himself, Luke Bryan, has been booked to sing the national anthem at Super Bowl 51 and for those of you paying close attention, you'll remember that this country star sang the anthem back in 2012 at the MLB All-Star Game and I clocked him in with a time of 2:03. The official OVER/UNDER line has been set at 2:09 by Bodog with both sides paying a line of -120. If you want to break down his performance and mannerisms to give yourself a better chance at crashing the sportsbook's parties, here's the video of him singing the Star-Spangled Banner in Kansas City.

It doesn't appear he missed any words in the video but as we've seen countless times, the pressure of performing at the Super Bowl can turn superstars into goats and Janet Jackson into a softcore porn star. If you're feeling confident he kicks the dust up, you can get +400 value at Bodog along with a slew of other props related to Bryan singing the anthem.
