2021 offseason thread

you mean, it wasn't the Devin Shore extension by the Oilers...#PlanTheParade

Eichel to the Rangers makes pretty good sense. Rangers with plenty of assets and cap room to make it work. Neck issues obviously a concern, but this would give the Rangers a top 6 that can skate with anyone and still a lot of talent in the pipeline.
Also hearing Reinhart will be gone from the Sabres.
Nolan Patrick wants out of Philly, but not sure the Flyers can get much more than a bag of pucks for him at this point and not sure what motivation they would have to trade him.

Expansion draft will open up quite a bit of opportunities and cap space, always makes for a fun offseason.

I wouldnt trade for him if I was rangers just because the cost would be sky high

Not giving up kaako or laf and dont see buffalo asking for less

The network news just stated that it was reported a fall killed him, but an autopsy proved fireworks hit his chest.

Matiss played Junior Hockey here in Sioux City Musketeers. He was a very popular player here. They just interviewed the coach of the Musketeers on local news and was really broken up. Very tragic.

Very sad, happening too often with young hockey players last few years

Tarasenko requests a trade from the blues

Not a great look for st Louis.

So why does he want out? According to sources familiar with the situation, he is upset with the team’s handling of his shoulder surgeries in 2018 and 2019 — his first two of three such surgeries, which were both performed by Blues physicians — and feels there’s no trust left between him and the organization.

In March, The Athletic wrote about those procedures and a third one, in 2020, which was carried out by non-club doctors at the Steadman Clinic in Edwards, Colo. The ligament damage from the first injury was not corrected in either of the first two operations, sources say, and wasn’t caught until Tarasenko was seen by the doctors at Steadman.

Leafs Eyeing Hall?

After another disappointing postseason exit, could the Toronto Maple Leafs be looking to make a big splash in free agency later this month?

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger said Wednesday that while the Boston Bruins would like to re-sign Taylor Hall before he hits the open market on July 28, the Maple Leafs are among the team with interest in the 29-year-old winger.

"(Bruins general manager Don Sweeney has) engaged in discussions about an extension for Taylor Hall with his agent Darren Ferris," Dreger said. "This shouldn’t come as breaking news, there was interest from the Boston standpoint prior to making the trade with the Buffalo Sabres.

"But there’s outside interest as well, including from the Toronto Maple Leafs, which may surprise some. Toronto has interest, I’m sure, if they can’t get Zach Hyman signed, or depending on what happens with Freddy Andersen.

"There are a lot of teams with interest in Taylor Hall but he’d like to extend his time in Boston."

Hall, who joined the Bruins ahead of the trade deadline, had eight goals and 14 points in 16 games with Boston after posting just two goals and 19 points in 37 games with the Sabres. He added three goals and five points in 11 playoff games.

Selected first overall in the 2010 NHL Draft, Hall is slated to hit free agency for the second straight year after joining Buffalo on a one-year, $8 million contract last October.

The Maple Leafs are projected to have just under $11 million in cap space this off-season, per CapFriendly, with 16 players under contra

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed defenceman Travis Dermott to a two-year contract extension. The average annual value of the contract is worth $1.5 million.

Here come more random spinoramas with the puck in our own zone when he has a clear chance of just clearing the puck..

I have no doubt that Trouba is tradeable after seeing that trade. Then again do I really trust Drury to do what needs to be done.

Shocked they didn't have to keep any salary, keith was the worst or 2nd worst player in chances allowed per 60 last year

All the kids he was supposed to mentor played better away from him than with him

Different contracts

Keith has 2 years left and even though the cap hit is 5.5m per year in think, real money is only 1.4m

Trouba has 5 years left at 8m and a full no move, plus his wife is a doctor isnt she? Hes never leaving

You force him out by telling him he either agrees to a trade or he gets scratched every night. If he has any desire to compete he will accept a trade.

Ppl thinking putting him on the second d pairing have another thing coming.

Best bet might be exposing/trading him through th expansion draft tbh.

Ya that's not gonna happen

Best chance, you ask him a few places he may go, and then you give up a HAUL

1 year of marleau got Carolina a 1st

I just read the quote about Ken saying you can't squeeze anyone in the league anymore, but then he just got squeezed.. the irony.

Rangers have a new GM who should just explain that Trouba is not in the plans and that they will trade him to an American team. Just because the last idiot gave out NMC like it was nothing doesn't mean that Drury can't fix the problem.

By the way they should do the same thing with Kreider who isn't needed.

The no movement clauses should only go to star level players. Fox can get one when he gets extended but giving them to players like Trouba and Kreider is idiotic especially when you don't get a big discount on the contract they are signing.

Detroit has a ton of cap space and Trouba is from there so trade him there and throw in the first round pick in this draft which isn't a good one anyway.

Whatever team gets Eichel is probably making a big mistake especially if they give a big package of talent for a guy still clearly injured.

Cant tell if you’re mad about the player or GM haha either way it’s pretty grim he would be moved

Dreger thinks a hometown discount for hyman will be 4-5 million over 5 years.. and Coleman would be a target if hyman doesn’t stay

I'm infuriated that they traded for him in the first place and then gave him an outrageous contract extension with a no movement clause on top of it. The GM who gave him the deal is gone and its Drury who has to find a way out of it or this team is going to lose a real asset like Buchnevich who is a great player.

Minnesota is supposedly hot for Eichel but how they make that contract work in future years with the dead money from buying out Parise and Suter is a mystery.

I have absolutely no idea where you get your intel from, but I think you're extremely far off base here.
The Rangers traded away McDonagh for a bag of pucks and looked foolish. They traded FOR Trouba and gave him a contract with full no movement clause you and you think they are now going to trade him? They just locked up Kreider to a long term contract again with a full no movement clause and you think they should trade him as well?
Not to mention these are both assistant captains, and probably 1, and 1A to become the captain of the team next year, and you think they're going to trade these guys?
Why would Trouba not be in the plans ffs? Is he great, probably not, but is he still good, yes. He's their second best defensemen, logged the second most minutes per game, oh and the Rangers have put an emphasis on toughening up and you're going to trade your biggest physical presence? And if you trade Trouba, which they're not going to do, you'll go into next season with Brendan Smith as your only defenseman over 23 years of age? Trouba is 27 years old, he is absolutely part of the plan.
Kreider is probably more dispensable, but again, the team just locked him up LAST year with a full NMC, they would look full on stupid af if they tried moving him now. And again, he is the face of the franchise at this point, he'll more than likely be the captain next year. He's the ONLY physical presence in the top 6, and you think they're going to trade him? This is not going to happen.
I understand new regime and all, but neither of these players is the issue the Rangers have. They are both young and on relatively affordable contracts. They are both probably a year or two long, but the Rangers don't have to worry about anything cap wise until 2024 at the earliest and at that point they can look at buying out contracts.

As far as McDonagh is concerned trading him was the right decision since they were just beginning a rebuild and the timeline didn't fit. The problem was receiving a pile of trash in return specifically Howden and Hajek who they insisted on neither of whom is an NHL player much less a building block.

Trouba is not worth anywhere near the contract he was given by the previous idiot GM. His cap hit will force the team to trade a far superior player when they have quite a few young players up for substantial raises in the next year or two.

Kreider pretty much is the same thing where he will be the 4th or 5th best winger on this roster in short order and just not worth the cap hit. If there was no salary cap I wouldn't care if they kept Trouba as a third pair defenseman or Kreider as a third line player but their cap hits are just not worth it.

Montreal is going to be in for quite the rude awakening if they think that playoff run was anything other than an extreme fluke.

Craig Button suggest leafs should protect: Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Holl, Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin and Campbell (8 +1 method)

Believes it Kerfoot likely gone in the expansion draft.
