UCLA had a helluva finish imo.

OSU has to be bummed at their finish but I think if they get Latwan that makes up for a lot...I personally think the dude is a stud.

February 3, 2010, 11:37 pm Top U.S.C. Recruit Is Not Signed Yet

Seantrel Henderson, the highly recruited offensive lineman who announced Wednesday that he was going to Southern California, has not signed a letter of intent to play for the Trojans.
According to Henderson’s father, Sean, he will wait until U.S.C. appears before an N.C.A.A. infractions committee from Feb. 19-21 to hear about possible sanctions for the program before deciding whether to sign the letter. Though the Trojans are not likely to hear about any possible sanctions at that time, Sean Henderson said the hearing would give the family a sense of where the process was headed.
Henderson has until April 1 to sign a letter of intent. After that, Seantrel Henderson could find himself in a situation similar to Terrelle Pryor in 2008. Sean Henderson declined further comment.

I won't wish anything bad on Keenan, however I do hope that all of Cal's quarterbacks suffer injuries and Cal is forced to play Zach Maynard in their biggest games of the year.

Edwards was co-DC for less than a month (coming from the Dolphins)...I highly doubt any of these kids came to play specifically for him.

OGGOA, on pure conjecture, expects co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach Chuck Heater to be promoted to defensive coordinator.

2011 centerpiece? Jernigan favors Gators
Timmy Jernigan is already among the elite prospects for the class of 2011. He lives in UF's backyard and favors the Gators in what could be a dramatic year of recruiting ahead. He sat down on Wednesday (National Signing Day) with Gainesville Sun high school sports editor John Patton to take our A to Z survey.

School: Columbia Tigers
Year: Junior
Position: Defensive tackle
Jersey number: 8
Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 275 pounds

A rea player I would pay to watch play: Tiger Powell (of Columbia); outside of my own team would be Alexis Blake of Fort White

B iggest area of improvement I need to make: I would like to be faster. (Editor's note: Jernigan and Columbia coach Craig Howard confirm Jernigan runs 4.6 40-yard dash now. His goal is to be in the 4.5s before his senior season begins and maybe improve further in college.)

C omic book hero I would want to be: My Momma calls me Hercules, so I would have to go with Hercules.

D efeating what team(s) would make me the happiest? (Tallahassee) Lincoln

E SPN's best program? Top-10 highlights

F ootball coaches who have come by Columbia High School to visit me: (Florida's) Urban Meyer, (Alabama's) Nick Saban and (Michigan's) Rich Rodriguez are head coaches who have been out here. They can't really talk to me now, but I have seen them at the school.

G ators, Seminoles or Hurricanes? Gators

H ow many scholarship offers do I have, and who offered first? I have about 30 offers, and Florida offered first (in my ninth grade year).

I f I had to sign a national letter of intent today, it would be with: Florida

J unior class top prospects I have gotten to know: The guys that I really know graduate this year. (He added he'll get to know the 2011 prospects better in the coming months.)

K ing of football: Tim Tebow

L east favorite sports moment I've had: Florida losing in the SEC Championship Game this year

M ain factor(s) that will go into me signing with a college: Education (not sure of major yet)

N ickname? Hercules

O bama’s biggest challenge? It has got to be the economy.

P otential college major: I would like to be a teacher one day.

Q uiet time activity: Probably sleeping

R apper I listen to most: Lil Wayne

S ummer camps and combines I will be attending: I'll go to Seminole Showtime at Florida State and Friday Night Lights at Florida. Those are the only two I know of at this point.

T he person who is my biggest influence: I would have to say my Dad (Timmy) and my big brother (Jarred).

U niversities or colleges considering: Florida, Florida State, LSU, Alabama and Michigan are the top five. It's pretty close, but if I had to choose today it would be Florida.

V acation spot I'd love to visit: I'd love to go to New York

W hat advice would I give an offensive lineman trying to block me: "Never close your eyes. I might be gone."

X box, PlayStation or Wii? PlayStation

Y oung player the area will get to know in the next few years: Laremy Tunsil (a 6-foot-6, 275-pound ninth grader) at Columbia

Z oo animal I like most: A monkey

I still think OSU has a better class than UM overall in regards to B10.

Mully hit it on the head though, wrt to on field performance and recruiting this year, UM did a nice job.

Question for the recruiting buffs: do any of you really believe that Oregon got a top 15 class? That seems abnormally good for the Ducks.

Well, I'll start by saying I think Rivals is the most accurate then ESPN, then Scout. Rivals gets out there and evaluates these kids more than any other service. ESPN is quickly catching up and probably will eventually overtake them though.

Start with Lache Seastrunk. I dont like him, he is damn fast but thats it right now. He didnt do well at the all star game, there are questions about his diva attitude and I would be worried about him actually having the heart to get to his max potential. Kid could pan out if he gets his head on straight but he was incorrectly ranked the #1 rb in the country to start the season.

The other thing about Oregon class is that 95% of it are west coast kids and im not familar with that region at all so I cant comment on them that much. I do know CB Dior Mathis impressed at the Army game.

He is some info on Ricky Heimuli who is a DT:

Quote:
On the Hoof: Extremely well-proportioned and thick body structure.
Needs Improvement: Really only has one move and will need to work on using some other techniques. Heimuli is also a tad stiff and needs to work on improving flexibility. He also needs to be more consistent with pad level.
Most Impressive: His bull-rush may be the best in the country. He is very strong and will not be intimidated by anyone. Heimuli is a headhunter and one of the toughest and meanest competitors in the country.
Conclusion: Has the size and toughness to see some playing time as a freshman. But he will need to add some more moves to his arsenal before he can become an every-down defensive player. He also may be used early in short-yardage situations because he gets a tremendous push off the snap of the all.

UO has gotten rave reviews about their facilities and the idea of playing in a new uniform every game is attractive along with having a young-energetic head coac

figured I would share this. Its interesting stuff and I have no reason at all to believe any of this is NOT true.

When it comes to college football recruiting, there are always things that unfold that aren't made public until all the letters-of-intent are in. This premium article takes a look inside the recruitment of top running back Marcus Lattimore, plus several other tidbits on the 2010 class.
Carolina picked up a huge commitment on Tuesday when Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes running back Marcus Lattimore announced at his church that he would be bringing him talents to Columbia. They lost out on a big priority in Beaufort (S.C.) linebacker Justin Parker when he signed with the Clemson Tigers. I can now tell you that Parker and Lattimore actually called Gamecock recruiting coordinator Shane Beamer together back in December during the week of the Shrine Bowl and committed to him. Lattimore later wavered a little bit when Auburn made a push, but running backs coach Jay Graham and the rest of the staff did a great job of keeping him in the fold.

Here are three tidbits about how things unfolded coming down the stretch with Lattimore:

1. Every Auburn coach, including head coach Gene Chizik, showed up for their final in home visit with Lattimore wearing No. 21 Auburn jerseys with Lattimore's name on the back under their jackets. They kept them on for the entire visit after revealing them to Lattimore and his family.

2. I can tell you Auburn's dishonesty with Lincoln (Ala.) running back D.J. Howard came back to bite them with Lattimore and his family. They tried to hide him as an athlete, when all along they were telling him he would be a running back when fall practice began in August.

3. Multiple other schools who pursued Lattimore promised him things like an immediate starting spot, the first carry of the year, etc. One of the things Lattimore liked most about Spurrier was the fact that he didn't promise him such things. He was honest and straight forward with him the entire process.

What happened with Parker

Parker changed his tune after his official visit to Clemson, but still continued to be positive about the Gamecocks when interacting with Carolina's coaches after that. He also stayed in regular contact with Carolina commitments throughout the month of January and up until Monday night before signing day was telling those commitments that he was still a Gamecock. He also stayed in close contact with Shane Beamer up until Tuesday, when he didn't take any of Beamer's calls. Clemson's coaches told Parker and his family to not inform Carolina of his decision.

Other stuff

-While Greenwood (S.C.) defensive lineman Kelcy Quarles indicated in interviews with various sites that he was considering changing his commitment, he communicated to Gamecock coaches behind the scenes that his pledge was always firm.

-Carolina offensive line coach Shawn Elliott began pursuing Spartanburg (S.C.) Boiling Springs offensive lineman and Vanderbilt commitment Logan Stewart almost as soon as he accepted the job. He and head coach Steve Spurrier went to visit him at his home early in January and then brought the 6-foot-4, 286-pounder in for an official visit the weekend of Jan. 22. The staff believed they needed to keep the Stewart news as quiet as possible to prevent Vanderbilt's staff from getting wind of his interest. In the end, though, he bought into the Vandy promise that he will be their starting center as a true freshman and stuck with the Commodores.

-Had defensive lineman Kyle Woestmann not committed to Vanderbilt earlier in the process, the Gamecock coaches believe they would have landed him. However, he considers himself a man of his word and couldn't allow himself break the pledge he made to sign with the Commodores.

-The Tennessee Vols tried to make a late run at Jacksonville (Fla.) Robert E. Lee offensive lineman Tramell Williams and Florida State attempted to do the same with Cocoa (Fla.) offensive lineman Ronald Patrick. Both players remained steadfast with their intentions to play for Carolina and signed with the Gamecocks in the end.

-Manning (S.C.) defensive end/tight end and Georgia signee Dexter Morant and his camp made strong overtures to Carolina’s staff late in the process and wanted to change his commitment to the Gamecocks. The staff evaluated him very closely on both sides of the ball and just didn't believe he was good enough to offer. Only time will tell if they made the right call.

-Carolina strongly considered signing East Mississippi C.C. athlete and former Alabama signee Devonta Bolton and would have played him at tight end. However, his academic situation was such that they didn't believe he could qualify in time to be admitted to the university for this season.

-Rumors persisted in the days leading up to signing day that Carolina might be in a position to steal highly-touted offensive lineman Robert Crisp from NC State, but there was no truth to those reports

Lot of talk that Miami is ahead of tOSU for #2...it'll be interesting if the NCAA comes down on USC.

Already thinking about 2011 Class:

Jernigan's journey to UF?
ESPN's Tom Luginbill called it "the best defensive group I've seen put together," and Scout.com's Scott Kennedy said "on the defensive side, there was not a miss anywhere."
What they were talking about was Florida's 2010 defensive recruiting haul, the centerpiece of which is the line.
Rivals.com rated defensive end Ronald Powell No. 1, defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd fourth, defensive tackle Dominique Easley seventh, defensive tackle Leon Orr 95th and end Lynden Trail 123rd overall. Likewise, Scout rated Powell second, Floyd sixth, Easley 12th, Trail 99th and Orr 255th. Both services ranked Powell, Floyd and Easley as five-star prospects and listed Trail and Orr as four stars.
The class was so loaded, UF coach Urban Meyer had to let defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat (Rivals No. 12, Scout No. 7) know there wasn't room for him and his five-star rating. He eventually signed with Texas.
"I'm not sure I've seen a defensive front as good as this one," Meyer said. "When you look at Ronald Powell, Sharrif Floyd, Leon Orr, Dominique Easley and Lynden Trail, those are some serious guys. I just think in certain areas, it's the best we've ever done."
So, with that group (and its overwhelming expectations) headed to Gainesville, what does that mean for the nation's top defensive tackle in the Class of 2011, a player 30 minutes up the road from The Swamp?
"When I first heard about all of those guys coming, I was like, 'Wow,' " said Columbia High School's 6-foot-3, 275-pound Tim Jernigan. "But then I thought, 'You can't be selfish.'
"It started hitting me that if I go there and you mix my name in there with Dominique, Sharrif and Powell ... fireworks."
As a junior, Jernigan was named The Sun's large-school defensive player of the year after recording 131 tackles, 27 tackles for loss (including 12 sacks), four fumble recoveries (two of which went for touchdowns) and three forced fumbles for the Tigers. Gainesville High School's talented junior quarterback Ryan McGriff described Jernigan as a "wall," and Scout already has issued him a five-star ranking.
Jernigan said he probably won't hold out making a college decision until the last minute, saying players that have a hat-choosing ceremony on National Signing Day do it "just for attention." However, he said he isn't nearly ready to choose a school.
Despite the big names in this year's class, Florida, Jernigan's childhood favorite, remains the leader. However, he added Michigan, Florida State, Alabama and LSU (cont)...

Five freshman who will play in 2010

by Robbie Andreu
Now that signing day has come and gone and we’ve had a chance to better analyze this Florida recruiting class, I thought it would be a good time to predict which five true freshmen will have an immediate impact this season. I’ve done these in order, meaning the No. 1 guy is the most likely to play.
1. Gerald Christian, tight end: He’s an early enrollee and he’ll have a chance to battle redshirt freshman Desmond Parks not just for playing time but for the starting role. Christian is an excellent athlete with good strength and great hands. He has a chance to develop into a pass-catching tight end in the mold of Aaron Hernandez. Being here this spring is a huge plus for Christian — and the Gators, who have only two scholarship tight ends on the roster at the moment. Unless something unforeseen happens, this kid is going to see serious playing time in the fall.
2. Joshua Shaw, cornerback: He’s also already in school and he has his eyes on that starting cornerback position vacated by All-American Joe Haden. He’s a big, athletic corner who has excellent cover skills and instincts. Physically, he appears ready to play. With the competition at his position so wide open, Shaw has a chance to become a freshman starter, like Haden and Janoris Jenkins before him. Another true freshman, Jaylen Watkins, also has a chance to make a run at the starting role.
3. Sharrif Floyd, defensive tackle: He’s not in school early, but he was considered the No. 1 defensive tackle prospect in the nation by most of the recruiting services. He’s got the imposing size the Gators have not signed at the position in recent years. With depth at tackle an issue due to injuries to Brandon Antwine and Terron Sanders, Floyd will get right into the mix for playing time when he arrives this summer.
4. Trey Burton, quarterback: I know, I know, his throwing mechanics are questionable and he’s going to need a lot of work to develop as a passer at this level. But that doesn’t matter right now. What does is he’s going to be the No. 2 quarterback, and he brings some of the same elements to the position that Tim Tebow did in the running game. Especially early in the season, Burton has a chance to get a package of plays to run in the offense, something to keep defenses a little off balance — and continue to make them prepare to defend the entire spread offense.
5. Ronald Powell, defensive end: He’s the consensus No. 1 recruit in the nation and he’s physically (and apparently mentally) ready to step on the field and play. His versatility will help him do that. He can play defensive end (where UF must replace both starters), outside linebacker (maybe even middle linebacker) and tight end. As a defensive end/outside linebacker, this kid reminds me of Hugh Green, who dominated as a true freshman at Pittsburgh in 1977 and went on to become the Heisman runner-up his senior season.

Christian & Shaw may start...Floyd & Powell will be in the DL rotation...going to be in BIG TROUBLE if Brantley gets hurt. Trey Burton as an SEC starting QB.....................
