Pretty satisfying round robin. Got to see which teams really have the class to move on. There are a few suprises but majority of the big boys have moved on. I'm putting all my Round of 16 matches in one thread, makes things easier.

USA vs Uruguay
USA ML @ 2.10 (Big Play) $800 to win $860
Ok very confident about this one. For all you guys who are new, this bet is for 90 minutes, if after 90 minutes its a draw, i lose my bet. Simple as that, i need the USA to win in regulation.
Alright, the US have been the most impressive team in the round robin stages thus far. Having played teams with varies styles of play such as the physical and patient play of the Poles to the very fast pace and aggressive offensive of the South Koreans and the Brazilians, the Americans have seen it all. Freddy Adu is single handedly stealing the show for this squad. Razzle Dazzle, definitely enjoying his time out. Also note that Uruguays #1 goalkeeper is suspended after picking up a red card in the match against Zambia which means Yonathan Irrazabal will continue his duties from the last match. The US will have no suspensions and will have a full strength squad. There is a large group of support for the Americans, i saw yesterday just walking downtown lots of University shirts for "Soccer US" and such, also the Americans will be more accustomed to play on Artificial turf. Key players like Adu and Altidore have played Toronto FC and know how the ball runs. For Uruguay to compete in this match they must not lose focus and brush aside their 2-0 defeat to Zambia. However, they have looked sloppy all tourney long and have had to really depend a lot on luck, out of the 4 South American teams, the Uruguayans have played extremely lackluster football and quite honestly do not deserve to be in this stage of the tourney, right now they lack heart and even though they could show determination against the Americans, i think the Americans are right now in a positive groove thinking they can beat anyone. That's why i think the Americans should prevail in a close encounter but Freddy Adu again will cause too much havoc on the Uruguayan midfield.
Prediction: USA 2-0 Uruguay

waiting on Handicaps to come out but these matches are the ones i have an eye on

Argentina vs Poland
Japan vs Czech Republic
Nigeria vs Zambia

You sold me.. I never bet a soccer game in my life before.. Lets go USA

Got a question.

<TABLE borderColor=#000000 cellSpacing=0 width="98%" bgColor=#000000 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width=5></TD><TD width=215>USA U20</TD><TD width=45> </TD><TD align=right width=85>-½ +109</TD><TD align=right width=85>2½ -105</TD><TD width=85></TD><TD width=85></TD></TR><TR><TD width=5></TD><TD width=215>Uruguay U20</TD><TD width=45></TD><TD align=right width=85> -135</TD><TD align=right width=85> -118</TD><TD width=85> </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

USA -1/2 means they have to win this game as you said right? And that bet doesn't include OT?

yup, all bets are for 90 minutes unless specified. Even if the US wins in extra time or penalty what matters is the result in 90 mins. Be back soon with other previews

Damn, alright I get it. There is no way to bet just the ML with no -1/2 in this game is there? If not I will swallow it and lay the goal

well there is often a misunderstanding of the ML in this game. Here is how to follow. These lines are based on decimals so bare with me

USA 2.1
Draw 3.25
Uruguay 4.0

That is a 3 way bet, meaning if you pick a side, they have to win in 90 minutes. If u play the draw and this match goes to extra time or penalties you win.
-0.5 is the same as the ML i'm talking about, i know there are some other ML's which in Soccer is referred to DNB (draw or no bet) In which case if a draw occurs then you will get a push but if you play the US DNB and they win then u get full stakes, however the odds are dropped.
So right now my bet requires the US to win in regulation or else...i'm fucked lol. Do you get what i'm saying?

Yea I def get what you are saying. My ideal bet would be to bet US to win the match, whether it be regulation or OT, I don't care. I guess in soccer you can't do that? Like I want the line to be a PK, even if I had to pay more juice, I guess you can't do that.

Greek or BetJam. I doubt I can get down like that. No problemo. I'm riding on los gringos. Great writeup and thanks for the help

these are lines from betcris. why would someone play the spread on usa if both the spread and ml has to win in regulation?

Austria vs Gambia
Austria +0.25 @ 1.895 $300 to win $285 (Medium Bet)
Under 2.25 @ 1.95 $150 to win $142.50 (Small bet)
Austria could arguably be one of the most boring teams in the tournament, but they have progressed via their defense. Very patient and efficient, i thought Austria were lucky to escape a point with Congo after getting the first goal. However, their defense stuck strong and its their ability to control the air that has really made them an efficient team. They will field a full strength squad with no injuries or suspensions. Gambia on the other hand, played a tough group. They were humbled by Mexico in their debut match, narrowly beat out the Kiwis and won a hard fought victory over Portugal. They have so far grinded out their games and i believe this time around their time for grinding is up. They will miss one of their key defenders Ken Jammeh because of a red card vs Portugal. Also, let it be known, yes they defeated Portugal with 10 men, but a Portugal own goal and a penalty really doesn't prove too much especially against the Portugal B side. This should be a very gritty game, neither team is very explosive, the difference being would be the ability to take care of the ball and control the tempo. I think Austria have proven their versatility during the group stages and I believe having played Congo, they have been able to test out some physical and fast pace play that Gambia is similar to. Close match with very few goals to come by.
Prediction: Austria 1-0 Gambia

Japan vs Czech Republic
Under 2.25 @ 1.975 $300 to win $292.50 (Medium Bet)
Was leaning heavily on Japan ML but something tells me its a little too easy. Price has dropped tremendously from 2.6 to 2.1 on most books. But let it be known the Czech's have a very sturdy defense. They shut out Argentina when they were clearly out classed. The Czech's had 3 shot attempts on Argentina but miraculously managed a draw. The Czech's are a very patient side and require counter attacks. They are one of the larger sized teams in the tourney and rely on their aerial and set piece abilities. Now they face a much smaller but faster Japanese team. Yes the Japanese will have the advantage of not having to travel and also having a larger fan base. I love the under, simply because the Czech's do not shoot alone. They primarily play with one lone striker and progress as one unit not really known for their breaks. The Japanese will want to try and up the speed but i really do not see a goal fest here. Both teams are injury free and suspension free so i think this is another hard fought game. I think this game has the best chance of reaching extra time so i'm going to pass picking a side and rather keep it on the sides.
Prediction: Japan 0-0 Czech Republic, Japan advances in extra time.

Argentina vs Poland
Argentina to lead at HT @ 1.72 $500 to win $363.64 (Big Bet)
God forbid i'm paying that amount of juice but i can see this becoming like a College Football game. Blast the opposition quickly and just sit back and enjoy the game. The Poles had a famous victory over the Brazilians, but then got humiliated by the Americans. The Argentines woke up in their 2nd game and are now in a rhythm. This is trouble for the rest of the teams because they look set to defend their crown. The Poles look extremely sloppy in their 2nd game and it goes to show with their disciplinary problems. The most booked team in the tournament, these players get frustrated a little too early and well that can be a problem especially with the Argentines. Sergio Aguero is making himself known as the next Argentine wonderkid. He is leading his squad very nicely and is playing extremely professionally. The Poles nearly got blitzed by the South Koreans in the 2nd Half and will really need to be focused vs Argentina, but i think the class of the Argentines will be too overwhelming for the Poles to acknowledge. I will play the Argentines in Handicap as well when the lines come out, that's if its appropriate but for now i like this line that Bet365 has provided.
Prediction: Argentina 4-0 Poland

pending on the results today i will wager more on the other Round of 16 matches, just waiting to see what sort of stake i should input.

5Dimes odds includes the draw on their matches as well, meaning if you select a side, as Mike said, that side has to be ahead after the 90 minutes. Mike you definitely like U.S. after the 90 minute span?

Mike where are you placing these wagers? The reason I ask is because I see Austria at +256 (5dimes) and therefore a $300 wager would win you $768. The $300 you wagered brings you back $285????? Am I doing something wrong here maybe?

Mike if I'm not mistaken, I believe you have Austria at +1/2 goal, am I correct?

Can't get 1/2 time plays @ Olympic so.......

Based on your predicted score of 4-0, would you take Arg. -1.5(1.99) against Pol.

GL

Nice writeup gonna Take USA with you Toronto Mike. Adu is good, and the States soccer program is doing well developing younger players.

Question: Does Argentina have that guy Messi and Tabez who I believe play for Barcelona on this squad?

Also I am going to the game in Ottawa, Zambia vs Nigeria and this African American guy we know told us Nigeria will win 2-0? Since we are giong to the game we need to obviously have a play on the game. I was wondering if you were going to have a writeup on this game?

Also any leans on Brazil vs Spain?

Any help is much appreciated.

Both Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez are in the Copa America squad who are playing Mexico tonite.

Have fun at that match, i'll be going to the Quarter Final game this Saturday in Toronto. Would love to see the Americans through to the game.

As for other matches, i am right now waiting on the result of the matches tonite. I have my leans for other games and i also agree with your buddy, Nigeria will progress. Absolute complete team and i would agree they will definitely be around for the Semi's.

Spain and Brazil, i think the obvious choice is Over 2.5 but i've learnt my lesson when playing "Obvious" choices and got burnt by the juice, the line is now 2.5 @ 1.76 on Ladbrokes. Not going to even bother with this, this game is very well balanced but it could possibly end up being a 1-1 encounter and be an extra time sort of match. The line has been shifting left right and centre and now there is a slight favoritism for the Spaniards, both are on and off teams but i just have this feeling Spain have enough talent and ability to control the tempo. If you can find Spain 0 handicap, i think u should take it.

My play is for the US to win the match in regulation, not after 90 mins. There is no book out there that has suggested any sort of wager where you select the team to qualify.

I don't wager on North American books, my books are European and there for i get better vig and handicaps.

Also if you ready carefully http://www.cappingthegame.com/forum/showthread.php?t=429

that will help you with the handicaps. I'm not wagering Austria to win i got a handicap of +0.25 If u have used Pinnacle before they would list Austria
+0 and +0.5 meaning my bet is split into 2. Please read that link, it should clarify a few things.

Good Luck bud, i'm happy with my wager right now, i'm not going to risk Argentina the full game. They know they'll win but at times these sort of scenario's you'll have to sweat out. I'm hoping Argentina just tread dangerous waters and play for just a 2-0 win cause you never know when they fall asleep. But they have the quality at the back so you should be fin with this play.

Well then I'm lost with your book but at 5dimes, it's after 90 minutes---you either take a side or take the draw---it's your call!

ok i don't think you get it.

Every soccer wager is based on 90 minutes. anything that happens after that is up to the book.

If the US-Uruguay end up tied after 90 minutes and it goes to Extra time, any bet that involved US ML -0.5 -0.25 is a loss.

Only bets that are stated by the book saying the line includes ET and Penalties will be honored

5dimes is a crap book to be betting for soccer anyways, there are way better options out there

Austria up 1-0 at HT. Gambia down to 10 men. Hope this score stays the way it is.

The Americans looked a little sluggish defensively mainly because Perk is in goal, but the kid is getting into the groove and i think the Uruguayans had their chance. Altidore is winning everything in the air, just needs to find something closer and add more power. Good Luck 2H folks

Oh I get get it perfectly well and I really don't think you understand my point or what 5dimes has to offer or how their wagers for soccer actually work. Furthermore 5dimes is one of the better books for wagering on soccer, let alone every sport for that matter. They offer more options for soccer than most sportsbooks, so I really don't know where you're getting your information. Tonight for instance there totals range from 1.5 to 3.5 for the U.S.-Uraguay match and also I see now they've added the wager option for not only the 90-minute option (which I initially tried to explain to you), but also the extra time option as well. Very, very good sportsbook for soccer!

alright i'm not going to argue with you but believe what you want. There are other books that offer that total range. If you are based in the US than you are hard pressed to note that there are better books out there for this sport, if you don't believe me then so be it, i've been betting on this sport for plenty of years. There are guys on here that will agree that 5dimes is far from being a decent book for this sport. Also note those handicaps....they are called ASIAN handicaps so go look at the Asian books and you will find the correct and precise lines.

anyways, all i can hope for is some push in the Austria match. Altidore going out is a big blow for the Americans. Damn was really looking forward to watching them play on Saturday.

Austria 2-1 Gambia FT
USA 2-1 Uruguay FT after Extra Time

Loss on the big play and Under 2.25 Aus/Gam but won with the Austrians. Oh well back to the drawing board, going to look at the next set of games for tomorrow.
